Deuce consistently shoots efficiently in the G league. He is also the guy there, the NBA guy playing down for some reps. He is clearly in charge when he is running the point in the G league. In the NBA, he needs to defer to everyone else. I think it's either a confidence thing or he just needs to have the ball in his hands more.....or both. Having to defer to other players probably takes him out of rhythm. We know he can make the shots and his form is real good. With his D, just play him and find out.
As far as him getting the the basket. He needs to be more deceptive and crafty because he isn't going to blow past anyone with a quick first step. While I type this I am thinking about how I thought this about IQ and look at him now. Deuce needs to build his confidence and the shots should start falling for him.
I can't imagine what it's like to be Deuce, Obi or Cam terrified you are going to do something the coach doesn't like.
He doesn't NEED to defer, he just isn't good enough or have enough confidence or just doesn't know what to do or not ready to execute it. Same with IQ in his first forays into doing PG things.
Literally no one on the coaching staff wants either Deuce or Obi to defer. They want to them to take over their role.
He has got to TAKE the opportunity. This is a big boy league.
It's hard to do that from the bench. Let's see what he can do if he knows he has a rotation spot and the ability to earn more minutes with his play. It's not like he is a minus on the court. I don't watch the G league. I don't know if the defense is just that bad there and a guy like McBride can run amuck. He's 6'-1" 195lbs, you'd think that he had a little more burst. That he can soot in the G league and can't in the NBA is a mystery. I'm going with confidence because his form is good and we see that he can shoot in the G league. I should say that I have never seen a G league game so it's all just guesswork
Without pointing this to you directly, this is how losers think, that's their mentality. They put up barriers to entry for themselves. FUCK THAT
At 18yo Kobe went all Fuck You on Del Harris and just kept shooting his shot from the bench and didn't look back. If you want to make a roster, you gotta GO for it.
The NBA is a cut throat league that pays guys millions of dollars, if you think just cause you are playing off the bench means you need to somehow defer or you should be timid about playing or that the 10 minutes total the coach gives you isn't enough, you need to find a home in the Chinese League and chill with some Marbury vasciline.
I'm not sure that is the case for a player whose ceiling is roll player. Does anybody ever dominate garbage time? He's 22 on an inexpensive contract. Maybe at 23 he becomes more mature, maybe its 24. Heck, maybe it's this year if given some consistent rotation minutes. The shot form is there. It will go in. If the head doesn't catch up then yup, he's toast. It's worth a look.
5 minutes or 7 minutes or 10 minutes or 15 minutes or 30 minutes a game.
Every player is asked to do his role and impact a game any way you can.
McBride is getting his chance RIGHT NOW. Will he be deferential on offense or will he make an impact on the game? McBride ain't deferential on the defensive side of things, even with his limited minutes, why do we need to make an excuse for him on the offensive side? Dude needs to bring it within his role. Impact a game.
On defense, I would think he believes he can match up and compete with any guard (confidence). On offense at 6'1-1" with very average speed and handle and not enough burst to get around anybody he hasn't shown any confidence. Learning to play PG in the NBA just takes longer. I think we need a bigger sample size. The kid is worth a look and given that we don't have better options on the team now is the time. If they trade IQ and Rose he might become the b/u pg by default so lets see what we got

Strengths: McBride is a scrappy lead guard with excellent scoring ability and underrated athleticism … Tremendous defender, especially on the ball, where he utilizes his huge (6’9) wingspan and lateral speed to make things difficult for opposing lead guards … Has a fearless demeanor and rises to the challenge when it presents itself … A gutsy competitor … Played extremely well when he matched up with likely number one overall pick Cade Cunningham, picking his pocket for a steal and score at one point, and ripping the ball away from him with both hands on a drive … He made numerous plays that showed that he was not intimidated going up against an elite player. He essentially played Cade to a standstill over 80 minutes … Incorporates a solid floater in his game when driving to the basket when bigger players are impeding him from getting to the basket … Showed very solid improvement from his freshman to sophomore year, including raising his 3-point percentage from 30.4% to 41.4% … Bought into Bob Huggins defensive system and really improved, showing equal effort and energy on both ends of the floor … Very active and aggressive hands … Deceptively bigger than he appears. Has a huge wingspan at 6’8.75 on a 6’1 (barefoot) frame … Standing reach at 8’3.5 is nearly that of a prototypical shooting guard … Uses his size well to finish plays with dunks at the rim …
He is literally too good for the gleague. Martin is a 100% right. He's got to show some attack. You KNOW that's what Thibs wants on offense. Lets see the kid go get it

He hits them in the Gleague. He is 23 and still a work in progress.
Modern NBA PG this 3pt thing is a required skill. If not, he won’t stick.
And, what martin said.Yes he’s lights out in the gleague. I know it’s a different level but it’s almost like the hoops are bigger there. Eventually his shooting needs to come around a little.
It's confidence and increased skill level / NBA athletes. So those same open looks in the GLeague, will be slightly open in the NBA, which can cause you to 2nd guess those jumpers, especially if you're not a natural shooter. As his confidence increases, his jumpers will start to fall.
The one issue I see with Deuce is his first step move is either non-existent or too slow. Thats the difference in speed as well GLeague vs NBA. But the rim size and 3pt range is the same, so it's mostly a confidence thing for Deuce on wide open 3s. And improving his 1st step moves in the off season, will help him a lot. If Thibs makes Deuce a permanent rotation player, I would bet all of this will be smoothed out by the end of the season. Game time minutes is the best experience, so this is an opportunity of a lifetime for Deuce. Thibs sitting Cam and his favorite son? Thats huge. Hope Deuce takes full advantage!

I would doubt he has much of an nba scouting report since he hasn’t played very much. The Cavs game the other night was his first meaningful game that I can think of besides maybe his Covid game from last season.
If you do find an NBA scouting report please post it.
