Rose said in the press conference that Thibodeau wants to “give Deuce a look,”

See, this is why I can't stay upset at Thibs. We need defense. We have a top 5 PG defender sitting on the bench. Why not. Plus Thibs is sticking with his 9 man rotation, because it's working. Lets just hope Leon Rose is taking notes and provides Thibs with the players he needs to support his rotation. Cause Cam and Rose are valuable to this club, along with Deuce. But I'm glad Deuce is playing. We need that perimeter defense.

If Deuce was a terrible shooter in college and especially in the G-League, I would be worried. But his jumper looks good so I'm not worried that he can't make a bucket in the NBA. As long as his effort contributes to wins, everything else is bar room talk, and stirs up a good laugh. Hard for people today to understand a player can positively impact a game from his defense alone. It's just like an offensive player who can't play defense. The difference is Deuce can actually shoot and score. For some reason, it hasn't clicked yet at the NBA level. He must be killing it in practice or Thibs wouldn’t play him, which is something we can't see as fans.

Rose on the 2nd game of a btb for rest and Cam has been off since tweeting his hamstring. I’m not reading too much into it. Are you saying Rose will be a dnp for Deuce in tomorrows game?

Yes that’s correct. It’s confirmed from what I’ve read. We’ll see

Thibs is the man. I can dig it

He should start away from 3ptrs until he scores some easy ones. In don't know why all his shots are 3 ptrs

?

Cause that is exactly what defenses give him. They leave him wide open or back off of him cause they know that's what he struggles with. When he has the ball, defense just sags, and it makes it double hard for him in particular to get to the basket too, which he is not really good at. No burst.

He HAS to shoot it, you just cannot NOT shoot it. Just not falling, Yet

He hits them in the Gleague. He is 23 and still a work in progress.
Modern NBA PG this 3pt thing is a required skill. If not, he won’t stick.
And, what martin said.

Yes he’s lights out in the gleague. I know it’s a different level but it’s almost like the hoops are bigger there. Eventually his shooting needs to come around a little.

RJ is labled as a "hard worker" and things will sort out. Eventually. Or at least that's what a lot of folks hope.

Is it the same with McBride? Or is that more of a wishful thinking type of Hard Worker concept?

Deuce consistently shoots efficiently in the G league. He is also the guy there, the NBA guy playing down for some reps. He is clearly in charge when he is running the point in the G league. In the NBA, he needs to defer to everyone else. I think it's either a confidence thing or he just needs to have the ball in his hands more.....or both. Having to defer to other players probably takes him out of rhythm. We know he can make the shots and his form is real good. With his D, just play him and find out.

As far as him getting the the basket. He needs to be more deceptive and crafty because he isn't going to blow past anyone with a quick first step. While I type this I am thinking about how I thought this about IQ and look at him now. Deuce needs to build his confidence and the shots should start falling for him.

I can't imagine what it's like to be Deuce, Obi or Cam terrified you are going to do something the coach doesn't like.

He doesn't NEED to defer, he just isn't good enough or have enough confidence or just doesn't know what to do or not ready to execute it. Same with IQ in his first forays into doing PG things.

Literally no one on the coaching staff wants either Deuce or Obi to defer. They want to them to take over their role.

He has got to TAKE the opportunity. This is a big boy league.

Paid professionals are paid to perform not on promise. These guys get three years to prove themselves. Its a tough go for them. Lot of pressure for a young man.
Deuce is not different than Frank. He came out before he was NBA ready which is not awful. He made the roster and is getting run at Gleague and NBA level.

It's hard to do that from the bench. Let's see what he can do if he knows he has a rotation spot and the ability to earn more minutes with his play. It's not like he is a minus on the court. I don't watch the G league. I don't know if the defense is just that bad there and a guy like McBride can run amuck. He's 6'-1" 195lbs, you'd think that he had a little more burst. That he can soot in the G league and can't in the NBA is a mystery. I'm going with confidence because his form is good and we see that he can shoot in the G league. I should say that I have never seen a G league game so it's all just guesswork

At 18yo Kobe went all Fuck You on Del Harris and just kept shooting his shot from the bench and didn't look back. If you want to make a roster, you gotta GO for it.

The NBA is a cut throat league that pays guys millions of dollars, if you think just cause you are playing off the bench means you need to somehow defer or you should be timid about playing or that the 10 minutes total the coach gives you isn't enough, you need to find a home in the Chinese League and chill with some Marbury vasciline.

I'm not sure that is the case for a player whose ceiling is roll player. Does anybody ever dominate garbage time? He's 22 on an inexpensive contract. Maybe at 23 he becomes more mature, maybe its 24. Heck, maybe it's this year if given some consistent rotation minutes. The shot form is there. It will go in. If the head doesn't catch up then yup, he's toast. It's worth a look.

Why stop at role player?

McBride needs play with the swagger he does when he's in the G-league. As the PG, the ball's in his hands practically by default - so he holds his own destiny, whether he wants to jab at the defense or just pick up his dribble early and immediately defer to running a play. I think most times down the floor the players have a chance to be opportunistic vs immediately running plays.

What does he have to lose? Getting in the coach's doghouse, buried on the bench or sent back to the G-league?

5 minutes or 7 minutes or 10 minutes or 15 minutes or 30 minutes a game.

Every player is asked to do his role and impact a game any way you can.

McBride is getting his chance RIGHT NOW. Will he be deferential on offense or will he make an impact on the game? McBride ain't deferential on the defensive side of things, even with his limited minutes, why do we need to make an excuse for him on the offensive side? Dude needs to bring it within his role. Impact a game.

On defense, I would think he believes he can match up and compete with any guard (confidence). On offense at 6'1-1" with very average speed and handle and not enough burst to get around anybody he hasn't shown any confidence. Learning to play PG in the NBA just takes longer. I think we need a bigger sample size. The kid is worth a look and given that we don't have better options on the team now is the time. If they trade IQ and Rose he might become the b/u pg by default so lets see what we got
