Knicks · 2021 re-draft, where you putting Grimes? (page 1)

martin @ 12/16/2022 12:08 PM
Definitely top 15?

Obviously jumps Boouknight, Primo, Duarte?

You know someone on the Spurs forums are calling for the entire FO to be fired cause they could have dropped down to 25 in a trade with the Knicks/LAC so that NY could have drafted Duarte instead of an tad overreach for Primo.

Looking at the list:
1. Barnes
2. Cade
3. Mobley
4. Green
5. Wagner
6. Giddey
7. Murphy
8. Herb
9. Kuminga
10. Grimes

So he definitely has a strong case for 10 or higher. Kuminga is still just potential. McBride has a case for top 20 too.

GustavBahler @ 12/16/2022 1:20 PM
Last time I commented on a thread like this, I put Landry Fields at 2. So I will pass this time.

Do believe its a little too early for this. Because Im guessing that the concensus will be in a year from now, that he should have been drafted even higher.

Grimes is just starting to tap into his potential.

Hard to do this in a vacuum. He's doesn't have huge track record. Duarte is injured, but Grimes was down most of last year. If you had to pick one season from each, which are you taking? You have to at least consider Dosonmu moving up above Grimes. Sengun is definitely up there. Kispert is probably above Grimes though you can argue. Bones Hyland probably is above Grimes. Santi Aldama is doing pretty well in Memphis. Even Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. I mean, I think its hard to say top 15. I'm willing to go top 20. And if Grimes can keep the last 5 games up, certainly higher. Need to see it with volume.

Surprised Grimes even dropped that far...I think I remember him standing out in the combine games...I think that put him on Thibs and co radar

Maybe jumps Duarte because he's hurt, but that can easily change by seasons end. But I think it's a tie at best.

Yes it’s very hard. I think the prototype is what makes him most valuable outside of the guys with star upside.

Aqua! lol

I also agree. I think we should park him at the 2 and let him continue to develop his game. `he's smart, has great defensive instincts and is developing a good offensive game.
KnickDanger @ 12/16/2022 10:58 PM
I say first overall!
TheGame @ 12/17/2022 5:08 AM
Do you see how easy Grimes scores? He puts up 22 points just off catch and shoots and a couple of cuts to the basket, with both RJ and Randle still missing him on a bunch of shots he could make. Once this team realizes he should be the 2nd/3rd option and not RJ (who remains a highly inefficient player), this team will take off. The young Klay Thompson comparisons I throw out look to be more accurate every game Grimes plays. Right now I would say Grimes should have been top 10, but by next year, we might be saying top-5.

He scores 22 without actually running plays for him or having any significant ball handling responsibilities, as an afterthought once our other players have dribbled the air out of the ball and finally pass it to him when lack other options.

Knicks knew what they were doing keeping him out of the trade talks. He has a lot of development to go through but he looks like the real deal. We have our 1 and 2 for the next 5-6 seasons in Brunson and Grimes.

Definitely a lotto pick in that 10-14 range.
technomaster @ 12/17/2022 2:20 PM
He has a chance to become a top-10, or even top-5 worthy player in his draft class over the next few years. If he can prove that he can keep up his percentages if you up his usage rate. He might have all-star potential down the road if given the opportunity - and if the Knicks continue to win big.

Klay Thompson-like upside is within reach.

Grimes is playing very well, but he's still a work in progress. Can we revisit this question after this season?
martin @ 12/23/2022 3:51 PM
This guy definitely needs a higher usage
