With how IQ is playing if the FO trade him, that might be incompetence if it wont bring a star to the knicks. With jalen and RJ out IQ, Grimes and Deuce has been a bug part of the team. Randle has been playing well leaving Obi the most likely youngster to be traded. I dont know why thibs and the FO cant copy what Kerr did with curry and Poole, they both play the same position and kerr was able to find minutes for Poole so now that curry is out, Poole is ready to take over.

Agree. IQ has a lot of talent. If he improves his shot selection and can set others up, he will be elite. However, in order to get a true number one/franchise player, we will have to give up some of our better yoots. Teams are not going to give up their top players for EF, Rose and a bunch of seconds.
IQ is better than I thought he could be. He is in his 3rd year. He is young. He has had to work very hard to add things to his game in 2.5 years.
Knick fans are not used to this many yoots actually making contributions.
Poole was in the same draft as RJ but was the 28th pick. Like RJ his game is not entirely smoothed out. He is being paid for his still upside but he has shown enough to warrant it.
I have no qualms if IQ is traded as it should be a good return vs. his draft position if so. Like Toppin, they might have better prospects with another team.
For now, Im just enjoying the games and the players. With our plethora of picks and deep bench I expect a trade if not to make room for rooks coming in as well.
This too would be new territory for knick fans to digest.

Keep saying IQ is a Maxey waiting to happen.
We are in a great position.
We can keep Obi, IQ and Grimes and trim some fat.
While at the same time add a piece or two in exchange that can help us now.
Understand that the FO is making long term decisions on which youngins to pay.
Clear they already have made that decision on Cam.
Rose and EF seem destined for a trade as well.
I am good with what would be left.

Knicks fans got a look at OG last night and saw what I see when I tune into Raptor games on league pass. OG is good but don't expect the type of player who warrants what has been rumored. 2 or three young pieces and a couple of firsts.

Grimes is like a smaller better shooting version of OG. OG doesn’t have any major qualities that makes him a major difference maker. He has a big defensive rep but couldn’t guard any knick last night.

I keep wondering what our cap looks like in 2024/25 with an Obi/IQ extension. If IQ maintains his current production he’s getting into the 18M range. Obi is more of a question mark. I’m guessing in the 8-9M range but probably traded for cap flexibility. While I would extend IQ, I’m not sold on Obi yet and at this point I’m letting him become an RFA. This is based on cap reality and not emotion. Obi is going to need to take the next step or be a cap casualty or traded for a pick.
The 2024 FA class is looking good. You have to think the FO is going to want to be a player to add that next piece that puts into contender territory.

The grass is always greener. Trade the 22 year old who seems to be custom built to handle the pressures here plus draft picks for the 25 year old averaging the same stats who is a better defender and a secondary player (Albight, a good one) at best. The only SG/SF I would have an interest in trading Grimes OR RJ for is Jaylen Brown.

Obi is not being resigned. He will be traded for a future pick or a vet combo forward. The more he sits on the bench the worse his trade value becomes. This front office isn't ready to admit how bad they screwed up that draft pick yet

Obi might turn out to be the wrong pick because of the roster, system. Some players you can plug into almost any offense, Obi isnt one of them.
Put him on an uptempo squad, that isnt parking Obi in the corner. Who is looking to get him going, I believe he has a good chance of thriving.
Obi may be traded. Yet I can't see his market and contract value to be super high. I can see the team offering him a team friendly deal and Obi taking it. Win win all around
TheGame wrote:Upgrade at SG?!!? We have Klay Thompson 2.0 at SG. No need to upgrade.
Unfortunately, we are now seeing we still do not.
Second unit also needs a boost. May be better place for Grimes.
I like grimes and Pehraps the unknown “Patience” is what is needed.
Been reading today about Knicks and OG Anunoby and the potential price.
Its two young players with promise and a 1st round pick. I think IQ, Obi, Reddish and a no. 1 works cap wise.
MOve Grimes to the bench, Slide RJ to the 2, OG the 3.
I like all our guys but we have picks to spare adn this is an upgrade.
Is it forever? Nothing is. If RJ and Grimes play great, one gets trade for value.
I think we need a consolidating trade.
Im not married to this idea, but it intrigues me.
Alpha1971 wrote:Obi may be traded. Yet I can't see his market and contract value to be super high. I can see the team offering him a team friendly deal and Obi taking it. Win win all around
Obi’s market value is at an all time low which is amazing considering he’s playing much better this season than he did last year. Thibs should be starting him at C with Mitch out or at least have him play major minutes at C along with PF so he can get stats and at least have trade value. We also play better with both Randle and Obi together on the floor than we do when it’s Randle and Sims or Hart
While there are no major issues with the upcoming expired CBA and from what I read, mostly an amendment to the 2017 rather than a redue like 2011, teams don’t have the rules as to what extensions and how contracts will be effected going forward.
This is IN PART handicapping trade talks. Not the sole reason.
While its not hard to see the path of Fornier or Drose if knicks want to bring back OG anonuby for example, his extension coming up is not clear as the rules will likely change some.
Bobby Marks on Windhorst outlines this and not since Robert Covington 5 years ago has a player not extended which MIles Turner might break that streak. He reminded us Indy signed Ayton to full deal that PHX matched. Turner is pending undrestricted. This makes him hard to trade for and that teams can have him in off season as UFA makes it awkward. Im sure he’d rather be traded as it opens up cap space to extend.
Im ok with letting Grimes improve. Winning now is always better but facts are what they are.
You laugh, but if this report is legit,Knicks easily outbid all those other teams.😞
BigDaddyG wrote:You laugh, but if this report is legit,Knicks easily outbid all those other teams.😞
Im laughing. This is a dump or they want value in return?
Either way its crazy. 50 games in Bulls give up?
Heat move Jimmy Butler? How can Mavs get him? Lakers can do Westbrick, so thats a dump. If thats the case Bulls do that is understandable.
But what comes after that? Vucevic? They paid a bit for him last year, they gonna let him walk?
So what we need is a sniper. Maybe Grimes becomes that? IQ at times maybe. RJ I doubt it. But someone who is consistent from the outside would help this team so much. And of course they would have to play some defense which narrows the prospects considerably acquisition wise.

Gave up on Lauri as well.

However, do think that if the Knicks feel they have a chance to compete now (They do), they will try to make a trade for a higher profile SG that they feel is better now and has a longer history of production. They may also feel their is a need to move Grimes back to the second unit. A move that would allow Grimes to get more shots and help the shooting need in the second unit. Are they also thinking they need a better PF to backup Randle? Better C to backup MR? Do not know. If the Knicks do , it increase the possibility that Obi, Deuce and Sims lose their rotation spots or that they will be traded. Not saying that is what I want to happen but just reading the room. We all know how much Thibs loves proven players. I see the Knicks definitely trading guys that Thibs has moved on from. (Rose, Cam, EF). But also looking not afraid to add a couple of youngins if they feel a considerable piece is available.
Two months later and still hoping the FO makes these moves.

RJ's contract is difficult to move and then you have Grimes IQ and McBride playing well and improving on rookie contracts. I understand why the front office is hesitant to make any moves at the 2/3 spot.
