Not sure if we have anyone who can match up on him defensively...I know Randle can't do it.

Has Sims play him at all today?

He'd foul Sims out too. He's just a tough matchup.

We Randle can’t guard Tweener forwards

There are roll players that can guard him better than Randle. This is also why I didn’t understand sitting cam. He’s the only forward on the team that’s built to guard PF tweeners.

Because he is out of the rotation.

They are sitting Cam cause he didn't do the right things while he was on the court and given the chance.

The better question for me is why hasn't Cam up'ed his game?

@ blkexec how is this definitive?
"There are roll players that can guard him better than Randle"

What data is there that Cam can guard him better?
We had Randle on him. We had MR on him. Cam would have had a physicality issue as well.
Does Cam have a history of shutting Siakam down?

Agree that Cam would have been a better addition to the rotation than Rose but saying he would have shut down Siakam is nothing more than an unsupported guess.

Not sure where I said Cam would shut him down. Thats rather cartoonish and silly. These are nba players. And todays rules is different from the rules we saw growing up. But as you agreed, Cam would've done better.

And I agree with Martin, there's something else with Cam (saving for a trade or he still hasn't fixed whatever he needs to fix).

Now that a day went by, this is more a team defensive adjustment that should've been made. Throwing different defenders at him is not the adjustment I'm talking about. More like early double teams, and forcing him to be a passer instead of a bucket maker. He was clearly on a mission and in a zone from the start. Their coach and player knew we just played and was going to be tired. So they hit us first and was the more aggressor.

Only 1 loss and we still almost won. So I'm not losing sleep over this!

To me Jae Crowder is a roll player agree?
To me Jae Crowder plays PF agree?
To me Jae Crowder is a better defender for tweeners than Randle agree?

I'm guessing there are other types like the Marcus twins and others who are not on Randles level, but these guys would be great to have for situational defense.

But, you are also copying a post I made in the moment. After I get some sleep, I'm a little more logical the next day. So don't look so deep into every single word Hoftra police.

The point is, people who fear that life without Randle would be terrible, is not true. I was very upset at the turn style defense from Randle and everybody. Which made me realize either everybody is tired, or players like Hart are being exposed.

I would like to see Sims take some of Harts minutes. Sims is a better defender on defensive switching and guarding the perimeter than both Hart or Randle. So give him more of Harts time.

Hoftra, you don't need a superstar to slow down Siakam. Thats all I was saying there. A roll player like Crowder can hold his own and spread the floor. Would be nice to have him off the bench. Or a different defensive team strategy.

blkexec @ 12/22/2022 12:43 PM
Looks like the warriors also have their eyes on Crowder. And with Kuminga and Wiseman as trade bait, they will probably get this deal done, assuming this is not some rumor created by the media.

Also from the same article. You need to lay off reports done by interns man.

Trading Wiseman or Kuminga for Crowder would be completely nonsensical from a Warriors perspective. As Martin themselves says, Kuminga’s “unreal athleticism offers great potential”, and Wiseman’s a “former No. 2 overall pick who they’ve (Golden State) publicly stated they believe in.”

Why would Golden State trade one of these prospects for a player who might be, at best, the seventh player in Steve Kerr’s rotation? Is Crowder really going to be the difference-making piece to a fifth championship in nine seasons? His continued link to the Warriors is astounding — to make the salary work, Wiseman or multiple of Kuminga, Kevon Looney, Donte DiVincenzo or Moses Moody would have to go.

Then you come to the Suns perspective — why are they going to want a recent lottery pick when they to are trying to capitalize on championship contention? This is a team who traded their number ten pick in Wiseman’s draft, Jalen Smith, for a role player in Torrey Craig just 18 months into his career.

The on-court idea of Crowder as a three-and-D forward is reasonable, but the ability to land him would rely on a foolish perspective from both teams. Time to move on from the thought of Crowder at the Warriors.

KnickDanger @ 12/22/2022 1:29 PM
Losing sucks. Glad the Knicks didn't mail it in.

I see discussion but I want to push the question -- what is the deal with Thibs and Cam? Is it a doghouse situation? Impending trade? Seems he gave some good minutes earlier in the season and might have been worth a look at guarding Siakam. Thibs is so certain Cam would be a worse option? I've been pegged as a "Thibs can do no wrong" guy (BS) but this befuddles me.

Come on Martin. These reports are on the UK front page. I agree, interns are not the best resource. But if something is posted on the UK site, is it my fault or the person running the UK site I'm just a messenger copying articles from the best knick fan site online. Don't kill the messenger. Who posted an article on the UK site written by an intern, thats your question that I can't answer.

OK just checked and now I don't see it on the front page, so point taken. But doesn't mean it's not a good idea to add a roll player like this.

I’ve been pegged the exact opposite “Thibs does a lot wrong”. But I’ve backed down a bit. It’s funny how winning cures all.

But when you find out about Cam let us know. One thing this FO and coaching staff are good at is keeping their mouth shut 🤫.

What’s clear to me (and not speculation) is the FO liked him or saw the same potential that they attached a 1st round pick to get him. So we all scratching our heads. What’s clear is cam is on his way out. We needed someone to slow down this PF tweener. And cam is our only PF defensive tweener on the team. So I don’t know.

I agree with bold above. So when you were talking about "other role players" being able to guard Siakam then immediately mentioned Cam you were talking about Crowder? Had trouble following that.

Think Cam was a better choice to combat Raptors length. Said it on several threads. But we are just guessing. And do not think it would have made much difference. Only option would have been more doubles. But that is another guess. Despite Sik's 52, we lost the game on defensive boards and with turnovers.

RJ really has to start guarding somebody out there - regularly gets blown by like a traffic cone.

Julius not much better but Jules putting forth more effort lately IMO.

Another guy walks in with a career night at MSG — really amazing.

RJ and Randle don’t match up well against 6’9 tweener guys who are too fast for them. Problem is no one else in the roster can either including Cam

That’s the problem. When your top guys are the worse defenders, that’s hard to build around. Then add in JB who’s also not known for defense.

But RJ and Randle are not the normal agile athletic forwards we see in todays game. And this turn style defense is a cultural problem. I don’t think anybody looks at defense as a skill anymore. They get paid for buckets not defense. So it will always be an issue especially for us old guys who grew up thinking defense is how you win. They like nope as long as I score more. 🤦‍♂️
