Yup, wiz pick is good as gone. KP back to kP

Still on the table....if it does not convey this year it will be Top 12 protected in '24 ....if not that than Top 10 protected in '25.

As a an asset it becomes more valuable. Not terrible given our yoot and still have Dallas pick.

Looks like KP might headed out of DC. I hope the FO sees if there is a deal to be had. Wouldnt have said it when he was in Dallas.

From Yardbarker

The franchise needs to assess the upside of its current big three (Porzingis, Kuzma and Bradley Beal), while Porzingis and Kuzma will have to decide whether they believe the Wizards can become a contender. Porzingis, who has said that Washington’s performance the rest of this season will be a factor he considers as he weighs his future, wants to make sure the team’s effort level doesn’t wane in the next few weeks.

“What frustrates me the most is when we have been down or we’re not playing our best basketball and I don’t feel like we want it. I hate that. We were supposed to be the most hungry team out there. We haven’t done anything. We’re not even in the top-six playoff picture,” Porzingis said after a tight win over Detroit on Tuesday. “So I don’t like when we’re not hungry. That’s what bothers me the most. But if I see that, like the games we lost against Toronto and Milwaukee (on Saturday and Sunday)? I felt the hunger in us. I felt like we wanted it. We were going after it. We were fighting hard. It was a physical game — I can live with that. It’s only when we’re not fighting that it bothers me.”

My impression was he fell off defensively but seems like he’s been good. He’s getting so little media attention. Must be just the team he’s on. Knicks could probably use him as starting center, bring Mitch off the bench but play them a lot together. I wonder what Brunson thinks of him, and how they played together in Dallas. That will definitely be a factor into any interested the Knicks would potentially have. But porzingis could potentially take Hartenstein and Toppins combined minutes in the rotation.

Nalod @ 3/13/2023 10:54 AM

KP has a player option for 36mm next seaosn. he is positioning himself to extend or opt out and resign a longer deal.
He is having his best season and has already played 57 games. HIs best was rookie 72, followed by 66 the next year.
So how does he come here, via trade?
If so, who goes, who stays?
he a center? What of Mitch?
Move Randle to SF and trade Barrett out? Or move Barret to SG?
What is his market if a free agent? He’d opt out only if he sniff’s big interest elsewhere and has bidding for his services.
To me he sounds like a leader and positioning for him to stay. He could be parroting his coach’s message.
KP does not have Championship cred intangible he can bring. He seems good with his coach, the city, and perhaps speaking as a team leader.

sad, but there is upside- I think fishmike pointed out there is less protection as the years go by, so there is always next year!

I think of Mitch dominating vs. second units, while KP gets buckets. Ive been surprised about KP's season. How fast he got to elite, the first real injury free stretch he has.

He sounds just like the KP we had on the Knicks about winning. But I think he understands you cant do that when you're out for the season. Wasnt helpful. Seems more mature now, some players dont grow up.

KP would have to take a discount, but if he sees a Knicks team that looks like its just missing him to get to the finals. I believe he would be at least intruiged. Higher profile and $$$ in NY as well. Not much attention in DC.

Edit: Good point about Brunson as well. I keep forgetting that angle. Like you said, depending on his relationship with KP, that could be a major bonus to have that comfort level already baked in.

9th to 12th seed in East are all a game or 2 apart from each other: Toronto, Chicago, Washington, Indiana. It'll be interesting to see which 2 teams can get those last play-in spots. I'd guess Toronto will be one of them.

KP has chance to show everyone what he has got.

Nalod @ 3/14/2023 8:37 AM
KP second season before he got hurt was an allstar campaign and the kid was doing super.
its how he earned his contract despite recovering from ACL.
Most likley his diva act was in large due to that he wanted his extension or wanted out. Why? Other teams perhaps would be willing to do it. And they did. He got 150mm from Dallas. he never played for Fizdale. It was a dick move.

His situation in Dallas was on court chemistry and perhaps with Luka he was limited. In DC, Wes Jr is utilizing him well.
Im not that into DC and the chemistry with Beal. They have to decide on Kuzma this year and longer term with the yoot they have.
They seem to be on the cusp of respectability a month ago.

KnickDanger @ 3/14/2023 8:54 AM
Dallas pick currently hovering in our sweet spot but how long are Luka and Kyrie out? We don’t need a free fall - thin margin between sweet spot and them keeping the pick.

What does this mean to you? Mitch is not a scorer. To me, his value is slowing down others star bigs, and slashers. How do you envision him dominating second units?

LivingLegend @ 3/14/2023 9:50 AM
Been recording all the Wiz games the past few months in interest of our potential pick.

KP has not been the issue - I think he’s been playing quite a nice overall game and his shooting/release seem improved to me.

Issues have been Kuzma going in the tank last 20 games or so and Beal just imploding in some games down the stretch after other games where he was big time. Gafford been dinged up as well - he adds a level of toughness when playing with KP that works for them. Gafford could be biggest issue.

Thibs has decision's to make when it comes to end of game crunch. Mitch lack of offense is a potential problem. one reason passing is not as frequent in crunch time is deflections occur. We know this. Unless a guy is wide open fewer passes reduce turnovers. Basic stuff. Mitch is not looked to on offense, and he is a liablity at the FT line.

With a bigger lead and depending on the team, Mitch stays in. For example he dominated Boston few weeks ago. This is a game to game thing.
This is Thibs doing in game adjustment.

I agree with everything, except the bold (Regarding Randle's spin-turn-overs!)

Overthinking this. if Dallas finishes 11-14, they have a 2.4% (14) to 9.4% (11) finish in the top 4.

If Dallas finishes 10 they still have a 20.2% chance of finishing 11 or 12.

I'll take that 11 spot with a 9.4% chance of not getting it this year all day.

I meant dominating the same way he does as a starter. Defensively, and on the boards. But against 2nd units. We need more scoring, and it looks futile to wait on Mitch to provide the offense.

It used to be that Mitch was finishing alley-oops from lots of teammates. Especially early in his career. Now its mostly RJ, from what Ive seen. Mitch might have more success with a faster second unit. With IQ at the point, Mitch and Obi dunking up a storm. Likely wont happen this season.

Why I hope the FO has at least a meeting with KP. Provided he finishes the regular season strong.

Your guess is as good as mine. He said that he was taking a wait and see attitude about how the season ends. I think he was talking mostly about the team's effort level. So that has to still play out.

If the Wiz look flat to end the season, the Knicks show they're close to contending, I think KP might be up for a change of scenery. He got the mega contract after his rookie deal expired, so maybe a chip' is more important, now that he's staying on the court. Im sure he knows how long it lasts is anyone's guess.

Why not try to get a ring while the good times last? And Beal aint' getting any younger!

This is what I have been trying to figure out - if Dallas whiffs on the play in, where do they end up picking- er, I mean, where do we end up picking.

And if we end up with a late lotto pick, then the KP trade has to go down as one of the best in our franchise history, behind those that facilitated the two championships.

I just hope the FO uses that pick for a player and not in a trade.
