If the bulls decide they dont want to pay the max contract they gave Lavine the knicks will be ready to pounce and ultimately hold its ground. 😂. But if they try to acquire him, what is the best/reasonable package the knicks should give? I won't expect anything close to the rumored packages for Mitchell.
Im more curious to aquire Devin Booker, the chances the Suns will even consider trading him is slim to none!
Jimbo, with all due respect if he is not carrying the bulls witht that massive contract, the first year of it by the way, then what is he to do here?
You look at that contract? You understand his knee is not great this year?
Put Beal in this same catagory and file it away as "Not our shit contract to worry about".
sure we all want an instant upgrade. RJ is that. "but he might not be". True, he is 22.
Lavine likley costs RJ and two first round picks, perhaps protected.
Im good with Grimes and RJ and let this team grow up organically!!!!
Keep drafting and understand some will exceed, and some will fail.
No to lavine, and no to beal. Bulls made their bed and they can fester in its own stench. Really, look up the contract. You'll puke.
Us fans can say- no thanks to Lavine and for good reason, i would rather wait and see if Booker would like to bolt out of the suns. But rumors have it that the Front office is monitoring the situation, ultimately they decide to pass or pursue not the fans. The only way il be ok with a Lavine trade if its with a huge trade discount. Bulls just want to get out of his max contract. Thibs knows Lavine well, maybe that insight will be a factor on weather or not the front office pulls the trigger.
thought he might be an option also, but his health and cost are a no no

Agreed. With Lavine and his knee and massive weight of that contract that can easily become the albatross that folks were thinking Julius was at the end of last season. Could Zach have a similar resurgence in a new environment..possibly...but I am not keen on paying $200 mill over the next 5 yrs to find out..specifically when the player has a history of knee problems...
This would be a death blow if they make this move.
Doesn’t play defense, overpaid and is going to struggle with his knee. Can’t keep doing the same move over and over.
Houston, Dice, Stat, etc.
O.G. for Topping, IQ, two first round picks and Cam. We need defense and scoring. We have enough scoring on this team right now. Need someone to slow down Luka, Siachim, KD, Tatum.
Oh yah, i would like O.G. As well. I would like to keep IQ though. Maybe add another 1st round pick in place of IQ. A starting line up of mitch, randle RJ, o.g and Jalen will be fun! A bench mob of Duece, IQ and Grimes can dominate the opponent's second unit!

Never liked desperate moves.
This smells desperate.
You make this if you feel he gets us to finals. He doesn't.
So why not wait for FA and pick up some pieces that can help us improve without giving up assets?
Sime may not like it, but feel FO is on the correct patient thought pattern.
I’ll be honest, I know we aren’t used to being decent, but I’m having a hard time adding a player to this starting 5 that’s not a top 10 guy. Like Levine is a really good player, but how much better does he make this team when replacing grimes with him? The talent is better but then you factor in fit and the ball being taken out of Brunson and Randles hands. So you sell the farm and hope the talent offsets the fit issues for what has been one of the best starting 5s in the entire league. I’m just not sure it’s worth it for anything less than a franchise player. I’d rather leave the starting 5 alone and try to make some major upgrades to the bench (without selling the farm) with the possibility of the ceiling being similar.

All of your thoughts and I'll highlight 2 that I really like.
I'd even go with a top 20-30 guy in a trade but get what you mean.
Also, any player trade that moves Grimes out of the SG spot would be an awkward fit. He will guard SF types this year just for the learning curve but he is 100% more suited for POA SG/PG types and that's to the Knicks advantage.
None of us really know the worth of what the Knicks' FO would have moved Randle after last year but probably a lot more than giving him away or attaching anything to his contract; Leon's team just wouldn't have done that.
But it is WILD to me that for the right deal, teams could have had him in the offseason and now that would be a no-go?

Randle once again altered his game. He mostly eliminated iso mid-range/ long twos from his shot diet and his 3pt shot has come around. He’s attacking the basket and getting to the line when he’s not at the 3pt line. He’s learned how to play off of another ball dominate player Brunson. There was always a concern that in order to make good use of him, you have to run the offense completely through him. He’s learning to play off of others. Changes his trajectory a fair amount.

No way am I trading Barrett or grimes plus a slew of assets for a player who could change the synergy of the line up—- and is an injury machine.
We need 2 players. 1 to upgrade back up center and two a player willing to take 20 minutes as a bench wing but can impact.
Unless we are 1 player away, sure. But I don’t think lavine is that 1 player. I could be wrong. I like OG as well and would love to get him at the right price over lavine.
Then we have to think about the multiple draft picks we have. Need room in case we find a young lavine or OG type player. But this FO will find a gem like they have before. So need room for that gem. Maybe another grimes who will provide some impact in his first year.
I’m all for building a championship team. But it’s hard to predict which way the FO should go because we are more than 1 player away from making it to the eastern finals.
I’m excited about who we pick in the draft and what type of player will this FO draft. Or will they trade out of the draft and add more vets. Will be an interesting off season for this FO.
his production is trending the wrong way. Hard pass.
My thing with RJ is he is three years younger than OG. Fans want what is.
OG is a very good player on both sides of the ball. He has a player option after next year which he will likely command a higher price.
RJ has a higher ceiling. But it will take 3 years to find out. Fans want it now.
RJ was a better defender prior to this year. Remember? He also was not buried on defense.
We can argue the what ifs. Is OG a tier one player? Not really. more efficient than RJ? Not much?
Issue is where is RJ in three years? At 25, is OG hit his ceiling? I’ll assume still room to improve some.

I’m not understanding your RJ reference in this thread. Are you saying it’s RJ or OG? Because I look at these moves for lavine or OG to play with RJ. It’s a pipe dream and probably will not happen if Toronto is asking for the farm. But if the FO can pull off a trade, I’m looking at these new players will play with RJ.
If the question is would I trade RJ for OG? That’s a different thread topic than “keep an eye on Lavine”
It was interesting to see RJ and OG matched up together. And OG looked stronger and a little bigger. I thought OG is more on the PF side and RJ more on the SG side. And both play the SF position. I remember a discussion on OG for Randle back when Randle was a hot trading topic. Of course those discussions are gone based on his play.
But I don’t see this FO trading either guy now unless we get an all star in return.
Torn on Lavine. I have been a big fan of his, but I don't think he fits that well - we have 3 20 ppg scorers and Grimes blend of 3 pt shooting/D is a better fit.
Question is would swap Barrett for Lavine and that's a hard call given Bulls will ask for more than Barrett.
Lavine is very clutch, but his knees arent. Pass.

Yep. And Lavine doesn’t really improve the needle much. Like you said we already have scorers. If anything we need to improve our bench scoring and wing defense. Lavine doesn’t fill those needs, he’s a starter or comes off the bench for a nba finals team trying to win a chip.
I think the starting unit is set and the bench is in flux. So I think making a trade to clean up the bench and add bench depth is the goal. But I think a better offensive player with 90% of deuce defensive skill set is what we need off the bench. I think Grimes is the baseline for what this team needs to fill out the roster.
Pass
As far as being clutch, grimes is growing into that clutch roll in crunch time playing off Randle and JB.
