Please change the balance back
To each their own. I love the 3pt shooting league more than iso midrange stuff. I believe in a healthy balance like anything else, but the 3 pointer is the best shot in basketball. Of course I’m biased because that is how I played my whole life.

There will never be contests like we’ve seen in the past.
There will never be rivalries as intense as 20 years ago.
We’ve seen the grittiest, most intense basketball we’ll ever see.

I think they should bring back the forearm hand check. Teams are shooting 3's because of analytics. Nothing is going to change the value of a 3 point shot. The vast majority of 3's wont be affected by a change like this either as they are basically open corner 3's or 3's off the pick and roll.
Bring back the forearm check, allow a zone (this will give teams that may lack talent a chance to compete and insert a little more strategy into the game), eliminate defensive 3 seconds (if a guy wants to drop off his man and clog the middle, he can take the chance his man will hit a 3)

We're finally getting back to the pace and scoring of the pre Bad Boys Pistons era. Basketball should be about making baskets, not assaulting guys under the rim. Please keep your 75-82 finals games to yourself.
The peachbasket, now that was the way to go!
The two handed set shot, now there were real men making real shots!!!!
Ah, the good old days! Hand checking, blood, and low scoring defensive battles!
Lots of stop action action and foul shots. Time to spend with the family instead of on the phone!
“Make Basketball great again”, thats what I say!
Tube socks, cocaine, and that domestic abuse thing, ah, nobody talked about it then!
It all when to shit when aids came and guys could not brad about sleeping with thousands of women!
Can we talk about the racial thing? No, ok. See, back in the day you can say you liked college because it was a way of saying “NBA is too black”, but you can’t do that now. (Sarcasm folks)……….
Yeah, the good old days……….When Stern ruled and the owners really knew how to own their players!!!!

There’s got to be something in between
Throw back post play. Maybe limit 3 point shooting?
Games where no defense is played and teams launch 40 plus threes and it looks like an All-Star game is not enjoyable.

They can start by making the corner threes 23'9" instead of 22'. Or maybe make the dunk worth 3 points.
It has been for a while. Im not sure you can play around with the distances much more. In the 90s when scoring was low they brought it in closer to FIBA distance and at that point it didn't make much of a difference.
The handcheck rule / defense 3 second rule might make a difference.
Ultimately you're not gonna get more post play when the league can make 40% on 3's. If you think you can make around 40% on 3s you need to be able to make way more than 60% on 2's to incentive you away from the 3.

I agree but I’m also biased towards the defensive aspect of the game. But the point with all these rule changes is to increase the scoring. I think the way teams are shooting the 3 now, going back to hand checking is a good idea. I’ve always said, with hand checking Steph Curry is not the same player. Especially with trae young. I think Steph will figure it out but trae may be impacted a lot.

could just get rid of the 3 point line!
at one level it's a harder shot because the basket is smaller, at another level it's easier because since you're farther from the basket there's more are the defender has to cover so smaaller target but more open -- just let offense choose if they prefer that
or just make it active for certain times like last 2 minutes of a game
I don't like it either and while we're at it get off my lawn.

Make is 3 points is in on the second quarter and fourth quarter only shoot beyond the half court line 3 points during the whole game.

Maybe a min amount per quarter papabear. Say 10-12 max per q then it becomes 2 points
I still believe they should remove the corner three. Line needs to be redrawn.
Thru 2018
As for viewership its a bit harder to determine the peak of popularity. The Second Jordan three peat I believe is still unrivaled.
League pass and cable make it harder to gauge total viewership. Revenue of the sport continues to grow and that what matters.
JOrdan got paid his 30mil per and delivered the ratings for the league.
He also avg'd 32 pts per when he lead the league. Now leaders are 26pg? Weird.
Lebron never has drawn like Jordan did. There are many reasons for that.
Kareem and Wilt dominated the game and never drew like Jordan did. WGN as a national cable outlet did help to build his exposure. Madison ave built an image then 6 finals in 8 years fulfilled the drama and build up.
Very unique circumstances. It was also the era of TNT, espn and the networks filling the airways with games like never before.
So the game as uber popular, individual scoring was up, but team scoring was down. This also fueled the jordan mystique.
So why did the league move away from it? You had the "Malace in the Palace", Hip hop culture explosion, and the game was at a tipping point of turning off many fans outside the game itself.
Hockey and football have also reduced its level of violence to its games.
Fans love Steph Curry!!! Fans love the explosive power of Lebron. Fans love teh Grace of KD. The athletic ability of Westbrook. The game thrived wihout the blood. With the players evolving into better shooters big men don't lumber and dominate and the lanes are now open for in traffic dunks.
Guys like Bill Bradley, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, Maravich would have thrived with the 3.
Question is what of the Big men? Kareem? Wilt? Hakeem? They have become less relevant or has the game now producing less of them?

Respect for the game is more important. You can make the game more exciting if you try other things. 3 point play is killing the game. When I see young kids playing in the park all they are doing is hoisting up 3 pointers or just hoging the ball and not playing team ball. With the 3 ball there would not be Bill Russell greatness, or Kareem Jabarr. However I believe the Knicks would have won a couple of more championships with bill bradley ,Monroe and Fraizer
all great long distant shooters. Bill Bradley would have led the league in 3 pointers.

most important thing is young kids are playing ball. Hopefully they smiling and having fun.
The game is one of skill and shooting is a part of it. Two hand set shot? It was a thing.
Bill Russell greatness in his era would be hard due to free agency and how players got drafted back in the day (territorial) but lets assume great athletes evolve as would have he.
Kareem? Maybe he adds a long jumper young and is even more dangerous. I recall he had a great midrange game.
I dont have a problem with the 3 point line. I have a problem with lousy 3pt defense. The answer for the 3pt shot is making the other team put the ball on the floor.
I understand not wanting kids to be camping out at the 3pt line, jacking up shots. Some of those kids dont have the ball handling skills to get to the rim. Probably never will get above average. The 3pt shot gives them a role in a game.
When the NBA is mostly 3pt shooters, with no dribble, then we will have gone too far. In the meantime, better D. There are teams out there which are good at it. They often win titles.
