YES. I think this is what is holding him back the most. Same with McBride.

Both are getting better but long way to go.

Oh, the irony if he gets traded to the Mavs 🤣

Unless trading IQ is part of a big trade that brings us a star or an obvious upgrade, I'm not trading him.

My "value" for him is lottery pick 5-10. This is a good 2 way NBA player who can score, rebound, shoot, disk and play both ends at a high level on a rookie contract. This is a super value commodity.

Unless its a star coming back IQ is looking more and more like a keeper.

Brunson/Randle/RJ are all locked up for about $25mm. Mitch is $17 this year but he goes DOWN as it goes on. There is 100% a long term role for IQ here even if its 6th man/spot starter. The guy will be giving you 18/5/5 every night in 30 minutes off the bench and start 20 games for you when guys are out and likely be a crunch time player as well. Or maybe he's the next Donovan Mitchell. Whatever... Im just enjoying the arc on these guys.

Chandler @ 1/11/2023 4:49 PM
love the guy and hope he starts nailing bombs consistently.

he is part of our culture change

Within this clip: IQ has the 4th best overall defensive rating in the NBA

For kicks and giggles I compared IQs first three years of IQ to Chauncey Billups. I remember it took Billups a while to figure out the pick and roll as a young player. Stylistically, there games are different but they both share the same shot profiles. I also remember that Chauncey was one of the first guards to lean into the 3 point shot, which made his shooting percentage look rougher than they really were.

I couldn't believe it, then; and I still can't believe it, now.

How Immanuel Quickley fell to us @ 25th overall despite the fact he became both the SEC Player of the Year for Kentucky under John Calipari + First-team All-SEC (edging out Anthony Edwards who earned Second-team All-SEC honors) after being a McDonald's All-American coming out of High School etc

Was simply, mind boggling to me.

If we're to do an NBA Re-Draft (2020) there's now a 0.00% chance that Immanuel Quickley isn't a lottery draft pick (rather than a slept on 25th overall sleeper pick).

Mostly I'd guess cause he played behind Maxey and was more defensive specialist? But I don't really pay attention to college ball

I'm not an NCAA nut myself but I wouldn't exactly say that IQ played behind Maxey because during his final season @ Kentucky not only did they play identical minutes (Maxey = 34.5 minutes per game vs IQ = 33 minutes per game) but it became IQ who earned SEC Player of the Year + 1st-team SEC award honors, and not Maxey etc.

All I know is on draft night when I watched coach Calipari rave about IQ and told NY fans how we received an absolute steal? I was convinced our Front Office got it right.

I'm still hyped how IQ fell to us @ 25th overall when he should've gone top 5-7 lottery.

He fell because he was a sophomore and didn’t have a position. He also wasn’t a great athlete. He actually was projected as a second round pick. Which is crazy but true.

By behind: IQ came out of HS as a PG and Maxey was lead ball handler on the team, IQ played behind him in that regard.

The player who I was hoping would fall to us the most @ 25 was Cole Anthony (went 15th). Not only because of a PG out of UNC but also because he was an NYC hometown kid out of Queens.

But as of today? IQ vs. Cole? Maybe I'm a homer, but I'm sticking with Quick.

Billups was widely considered a bust until he got to Detroit and gelled really well with that unit. IQ reminds me of John Starks. Energy guy off the bench who can shoot and drive to the basket and on defense he plays bigger than he is. He’s just not as streaky.

John Starks is one of my all time favorite Knicks (like most here) but I believe IQ is on another level. "Versatile" isnt a word normally used to describe a player's ballhandling skills. But in IQ's case its appropriate.

He can dribble while bouncing off the soles of his feet, like a boxer. A lifetime ago when I played playground bball in NY, One of my buddies who was a regular there could dribble like that. Like IQ, he was able to change directions in a heartbeat. Really tough to stop. IQ also can play flat footed, and has enough of a burst to make him a threat.

When it comes to handles, right now, Grimes is like a Dodge Hellcat. Blisteringly fast in a straight line, has trouble is the corners. IQ is like a Porsche 911. Can do it all, just needs to be more reliable.

You probably wont see IQ headbutting players. Also believe IQ is better suited for the starting lineup than Starks was. Tough to match Stark's heart though.

Yeah, it took billups a few years, then he picked it up in Minnesota with KG and rehabilitated his career before going to Detroit. Part of Billups struggles was due to alcoholism and part of it was due to Rick Pitino being an idiot as a GM. I don't see Starks because he was way more athletic and met people at the rim. Also not as good of a ball handler. Starks was like a billionaires version of Austin Rivers.

Not sure but it's weird.

I just went to a site that was updated 5 days ago that lists all of the 6th Man of the Year favorites etc and Immanuel Quickley's name wasn't even mentioned...

Russell Westbrook = -150
Malcolm Brogdon = +150
Tyrese Maxey = +700.
Norman Powell + 800.
Bennedict Mathurin = +1800.
Jordan Poole = +6000.
Bogdan Bogdanovic = +6500.
Malik Monk = +8000.
Victor Oladipo = +12000.
Malik Beasley = +15000.

Etc.

But no IQ?

I know there's multiple sites like this so would be intriguing if anyone knows of any outlets that even has Quick within the same topic of discussion?
