Knicks · IQ is really good (page 9)

Really struggling to determine my breaking point. Obviously IQ is not getting maxed out, but $20m per? Definitely. $25m? Still do it. $30m? Hesitating, but not a firm no...that's RJ money, and IQ definitely making a strong case in the head-to-head comparison.

I'll be shocked if Obi resigns...love him, but I'm just not seeing Knicks offering him a competitive contract, nor Obi turning down a better opportunity RE: playing time and focus. I'd sign on for $40m-50m / 4 years.

Knicks need to be careful with the new penalties for teams over the luxury tax in the new CBA. Will need to clear out Fournier for starters. RJ too down the line.
Nalod @ 4/4/2023 11:53 AM
RJ contract kicks in next year at 23mil, escalates to 29 by year 4 when he is would be 27.
IQ get Brunson type money? His actually deescalates over time. Both close in value.
Knicks could let him be restricted and see what the market brings? My sense is Leon the former agent knows this shit as does the FO, including Aller who is our capologist.
Did they blow it with RJ? Not this year at 10mil. His deal kicks in next year and yeah, its questionable if he don’t step it up.

Im IQ wants the big money and knicks are not down with it he’ll likely be traded for good value.
I suppose what comes back in return will determine if fans will be happy.

Does the new CBA kick in already or this summer? If so, and teams can sign rookies to a 5th year instead of just 4, it's gotta be a done deal for IQ. The money for IQ just wont make sense otherwise.

We are talking guaranteed money over 5 years with bigger % increases available each year VERSUS (at the extreme) of only getting a 4 year deal as an UFA while also only making like $6M before the 4 years kicks in.

So let's say IQ starts at $15M (which is low IMO)....

If CBA kicks in this summer, he can do rookie extension deal that has 8% raises starting in 2024: $15M, $16.2M, $17.5M, $19M, $20.4M; total: $88M

OR, IQ can go the RFA route and get 4 years and 4% raises: $15M, $15.6M, $16.3M, $16.9M; total: $63.7M. In the RFA scenario I did level set the starting salary, the other team would have to wildly overpay in a year where there may be not be much competition via cap space. Give or take, a team would have to offer ~25% more as the starting point to make it worth it for IQ.

OR IQ can go the UFA route and risk as lot of biscuit for no reason. In this scenario, he is already dunking on getting at least $9M in year 2024 and 4 years of guaranteed $$$. 2 years of risk before he could cash in.

I think that's the difference, give or take.

Fournier is essentially an expiring contract next summer as he will have 1 year left guaranteed before a team option. We can salary dump him it depends on what it will cost pick wise. If the mavs pick vest maybe we trade down with another team to get EF off the books

Your scenario won't come up really. IQ extension will not kick in until 2024 at the earliest, and that's the same year as the team option for Fournier.

Knicks got Brock Aller. He'll just do his thing and all will be right.

Yes. It goes into effect this summer.

I think the 5th year is a massive change. It makes picks even more valuable. One thing you can count on the player's is sacrificing rookies for vets. This was a major win for teams as they can now control one more year before a rookie hits UFA.

That being said, no reason for the Knicks to trade any of their picks. By the time they convert Knicks will likely be right up against the cap so having rookies is a great way to compete while controlling costs.

Makes a lot of since to me. I agree.

I was on the Celtics Reddit and they are whining their @sses off. "Wah, IQ started 21 games! Wah, NY Media bias (Really?!?!) Wah, Brogdan has slightly better offensive numbers!" No mention of how IQ'sdefensive and +/- craps of Brogdan. They were quick (pun intended) to bring this stuff up when Randle made the All NBA over Tatum. But it's different now? They need to stop fighting the inevitable and ponder the more serious questions like how Fournier's cheeks taste and how why does a deep rotation guy consistently look like All Star against them.

It will all be sorted out in the ECF series.

Boston teams have won more championships the past 20 years then I will ever see the Knicks and Jets win combined in my lifetime and they are f’ing complaining about IQ getting a 6th man award

He will be all defensive team soon

https://theathletic.com/4397150/2023/04/...

Quickley’s defense

New York’s defense finished the season exactly 12 points per 100 possessions better when Quickley was on the floor, according to Cleaning the Glass. That was the largest differential for any qualifying NBA player — by far. And look at the company behind him.

Second place (among players who ran for at least 1,500 minutes this season) was former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green, who was more than two points per 100 behind Quickley. Third place was DPOY candidate Brook Lopez.

For perspective on how large the swing is when Quickley enters the game, the Cavs finished with the top-ranked defense in the NBA this season. If a team were 12 points per 100 possessions worse than them, then that hypothetical team would own the worst defense in league history.

IQ needs to be a starter next season. RJ or Grimes to the bench. Rokas Jokubaitus as reserve PG.

I am almost struggling to get my head around this kid.

His #s say star.
His progression says star.
His IQ/work ethic say star.
The eye test says star.
His coach says star.
His peers say star.

This kid literally does it all, seems to be still improving, and much like Brunson only seems to care about winning

The plus stats both on defense and overall are insane. And as far as raw counting stats, this is what I expect from him full time. I wouldn’t want to just dump Barrett, but part of me would want to move him and bring Quickley into the starting lineup while moving Grimes to SF. It’s a little small but the fit would be great. The key is replacing his production off the bench.
