Wow! RJ Barrett annd Randle outside defense and foot movement STUNK on defense in the vid.
Also McBride being in the paint area not set up to force an offensive foul having more than enough time.
Please someone need to question Tom Thibs defense ???

The defense wasn't the best, but exactly what is Thibs supposed to do? Run out there and position his players? That is ALL on the players.
Sometimes, you're trying too hard.

Grimes starts in part to guard best PG/SG on court and learn from that. Same thing they did last year with RJ
There is a guy named Rose on our bench and from what I hear hes pretty good.
If we can’t beat this Laker’s squad on our home court, and just us missing M Rob, then no way should we be buyers at the deadline. This team just is crap. Is it good? Is it bad? Were those victories against some good teams just accidents? Is Randle going to come out and say we weren’t ready like he did after the Nets game?
Maybe the magic of Thibs is if guys are 200% dialed in, we’re a winning team, but anything less than 200%, we just suck. And it’s impossible to give 200% focus for an entire season.

Mitch is a huge loss though. Not only as a rebounder and shot blocker but as a deterrent to other teams driving into the paint.

The issue isn’t Quick or Grimes (who is struggling from 3) — the problem IMO is RJ.
He is a brutal defender..brutal and he has one of the more selfish (blinders on) offensive games in the league. He moves like a slug on both ends —- seems like a good kid but man he can’t and/or doesn’t defend.
He apparently refused to speak with the media tonight after rightly being benched in Q4 - again IMO.
You looking in the mirror on this one 😏
I love over rooting for home drafted players and I struggle mightily with RJ since last year.
Drafted players are a fan's sports "children."
I'd swear he was a better defender before this year. Pretty sure I mentioned this earlier in the season, but I think RJ is too heavy. I'd go for the lean body and quickness...I'm saying get rid of 15 lbs, at least.
Agree, RJ has put on too much muscle. If he is going this route then trade Randle and make RJ a full time PF

How about we make Randle the Center, RJ the four and start JB, Grimes and IQ?
Small Ball=Kryptonite to Thibs.

I like rim protecting Cs too much. You saw it last night or for most of this losing part of the season that Mitch has been out with injury teams are driving into the paint doing what they want to us. How many times last night did they do that same play drive to the basket then backdoor to the other laker running up
Team stuck in there for most of game. Think we should have had a better play at the end of regulation than give it to Randle. Bad game by Randle. Including not kicking out quickly to JB and end of game and bad turnovers at the end of OT. Has to shoot better than what he did. Think guarding LBJ cooked him. RJ needs to shoot better as well. We can't win if they both play this badly. JB kept us in the game. Out us in his back all game. Disappointing loss but like I said, team stuck in there and fought hard especially in the last part of the 4th. Good games by IQ, Grimes and Hart.

So if our defense is predicated on having Robinson erase mistakes or the ineffectiveness of others, we have one player worth keeping.
If we can't beat a 38 year old Lebron on an ailing ankle and Davis who has been ailing all season- at home- then give up already and play Obi 30 minutes and see what he can give you, trade Randle for the most massive package you can get out there, and call it a season.
38 year old Lebron when able is still a MT rushmore level player on some nights. Lakers had a must win. AD played. Is he a HOF bound player? Have to give an opponent credit. Its not always about a team with a better record that should win.
This is what .500 looks like. Beat the Celtics in boston one night, lose to Brooklyn another who is healthy except for KD.
Lakers have a chip and just made a nice deal for Rui. They leverage their future for what they are now.
We have our future still and have yet leverage up.
.500 is about right. Its maddening unless you accept reality.
Honestly did not expect to win this one so I'm not that upset. It didn't go the way I expected with the Lakers blowing us out and LeBron getting 50 plus with a ton of FT's but it's still a loss. I'm noticing I'm getting less and less annoyed by the losses. Guess I'm getting used to this .500 ball.
But I'm annoyed with Randle and Thibs in this one for that last attempt in regulation. Brunson is having one of those games where he is feeling it with 37 points and just hit two clutch shots and should have had the ball in his hands! Randle struggled shooting the ball and he is starting to show signs of the old Randle from last season with his dumb plays and arguing too much with the refs, which is really concerning. I'm not sure if it was Thibs who designed the play for Randle to take that last shot or if Randle decided himself to play hero ball but it was a dumb play and a wasted opportunity.
And if RJ wants to finish the game over IQ and Grimes, he needs to defend! IQ deserved to finish the game. I'm going to be pissed if we trade him in the next week unless it's for a star. Grimes three point shooting is starting to worry me. He went 0/5 last night and again failed to hit clutch wide open threes that would have given us a lead or cut a lead. He has a good motor defensively and is an underrated playmaker but he needs to start hitting his threes.
This team needs trades desperately or we're going to keep seeing the same thing. We'll finish .500 and get eliminated in the play-in.
We seem to ALWAYS have trouble when the other team has two skilled bigs in the lineup at the same time.
We did not have enough length to cover Lebron and AD on the court.
This is one game where you have to put pride aside and play Reddish, just to match up length wise.
We also had same issue with Toronto, Bucks, Cavs...
We do not have enough length in our lineups.
You can even play small-ball as long as you have length.
I wish just once we would see a lineup of:
- PG - Brunson
- SG - Barrett
- SF - Reddish
- PF - Toppin
- C - Randle
The 9-man rotation got us a nice winning streak, but Thibs thinks that is the magic formula for everything.
We have so many pieces, it would be nice to see some creativity with the lineups.

Yeah I don’t think RJ will be playing SG again anytime soon

Rose has been really good, up until this year of course.
It's a tiresome conversation. Grimes is going to be the long term starting SG and he has earned every minute of it. So has IQ - earned all his minutes - but he will get his soon in the form of a big fat contract.
But carry on, please discuss how giving 34 year old Rose minutes off the bench and truly fucking up a good rotation and the development of Grimes as a POA is a worthwhile move while killing the perimeter defense and not just something that popped up into your head without much follow through on thought process.
You do understand that there are other considerations, right?

For me, it was not. RJ definitely got the benefit of the doubt as he was assigned to defend the best wing player every night. He did honorably but I didn't think he did well.
Lebron saying the refs decided the game in Boston but the players decided the game last night. I see how this works now. Dude has always been full of shit and gaming the league and refs is cheating and bad sportsmanship in my eyes
That half court 3pointer just before halftime REALLY decided the game
