I don’t love it but a IQ, Beasley, Vanderbilt and Hartenstein bench is really good. But I’d rather just to Beasley and keep Obi.

We haven’t made a good trade in 20 years.

Can’t imagine that changed now, just don’t overpay.

Acceptable moves
A first round pick for a Caruso or Bogdanovic
Fournier, Reddish, 3 seconds for Malik Beasley
Rose, Reddish, Fournier, Hartenstein for Westbrook
Toppin for Lou Dort
Derrick Rose for Terrance Ross
Rose and Reddish for Covington
Fournier and 1st protected for Eric Gordon

Can’t give up 3 first rounders for a non all star, with a deep draft we can get multiple wings.

Had we not wasted our cap on mediocre player we would have had Duren on the roster whose going to be Allstar with the 14th pick. This draft is going to have some talent.

Would rather be patient

Drose was a great trade.

And if we could swing maybe a Cam & couple of 2nds for say Grayson Allen or a Josh Hart….

Quick/Beasley/Hart/Vandy/Hartenstein —— not bad.

MS @ 2/4/2023 1:12 PM
DRose worked out, but it also put them in the playoffs gave them a false sense of who the team was and led to horrible free agent signings.

Would have been better to reset.

Let IQ run the team last year and have some growing pains.

You lost me at that first sentance.
Kp was a good trade.
The trade that gave us cap space to sign brunson was good.
The trades that was finessed to make picks for IQ, Grimes, and other later……>They were not bad.
Drose was good.
Perry has not been here 20 years.
Because it has not happened does not mean it can’t, or it won’t.
Your trades make believe. They are always better than reality.
How does lakers absorb 4 players for Westbrook? What besides cap space are we getting?
What do we do with the cap space?

Not sure how legit the reporting is but the framework of the deal makes total sense as far as what I can see happening.

Dont know the cap implications. It makes sense as far as fit. But this looks like a quick fix, lateral move, that might address chemistry. Those kind of moves arent necessarily bad things, but it would be disappointing if thats the best the FO could do for Obi.

There is still the rest of the season to increase his trade value, if Obi is to be traded. This would feel like a case of selling low, for a playoff run. Which probably wont get far this season.

It works under the cap. Keep in mind Vanderbilt is younger than Obi and has been better so far in his career. He’s a very versatile defender. If his 3pt shooting continues to come along, thibs could unlock him as Covington type player. Both players expire in 2024. I don’t think it’s selling low.

From a year ago, perfect Knicks player off bench: defense, hustle, ball handling, steals, gotta work on a 3point shot.

Oh yeah, he’s perfect for the Knicks

Looking @ his Career numbers (despite an average of 20 minutes per game) I'm not impressed with literally any of his on court production/statistics (outside of his FG%).

And while watching those YouTube Highlights I don't even see 10% of Obi Toppin's athleticism.

My biggest red flag is how many different teams he's already been on (Denver/Minnesota/Utah) and would make a 4th team if becoming a Knick (meaning that 3 different coaching staffs have already quit on him).

Call me biased because for one I really love Obi Toppin's energy and athleticism + improved 3PT shooting off the bench and had my hopes on OG Anunoby.

But then again I can already tell you know a lot more about this guy than I do; so I'll have to take your word on this one.

I've been high on a Vanderbilt for a while. It would be tough, but I'd do the Obi swap. I'm not high on Beasley. The dude is a nutcase with a history of causing problems on his team and personal life. But I might be able to overlook that. But I can't overlook his defense. It's bad. Maybe not Fournier bad, but that's a low bar.

Is he a "Thibs guy?" You know, good rebounder, great defender, can't shoot the 3?

MS @ 2/4/2023 6:40 PM
Would that blazers do Su, Simms, Reddish for Josh Hart? He’s
Exactly what we need on the second unit and you’re not giving up much. Simms isn’t young, I like his upside but they hold their assets.

Drose was a great trade.

Great trade followed up by a bad contract

Kemet @ 2/4/2023 6:58 PM
It's been four years and the Knicks FO are still looking for NBA players that could co-exist on offense/defense alongside the 36 minute Ball-Stoppers Randle & RJ Barrett.
Giving the two players the Green Light on offense for Four seasons and a row, plus above 36 minutes per game, and the two players one on one performance has not change since coach Fiz, plus they have NO team-ball talent with their teammates on either side of the court.
BRIGGS @ 2/4/2023 7:39 PM
I’m not trading 3 picks for secondary guys on the jazz. These are second rd picks
Knixkik @ 2/4/2023 8:28 PM
Not a prediction but 2 guys I keep going back to that I like for this team. Saddiq Bey is a great option due to his age and proven shooting/ scoring ability. For those who were intrigued by Reddish, Bey offers a more proven skill set and still some good upside to tap into. He can play both 3 and 4 so he can be used in different ways. He can range from just a spot up shooting role, to a more expanded role if the Knicks move on from Toppin eventually.

The other guy is Alex Caruso. He is such a seamless fit because he replaces Deuce in the rotation as a big upgrade in the same role. Top tier defense, spot up shooting and connective playmaking. Just a perfect system fit and floor raiser. You can put IQ, Caruso and Grimes on the floor and be the best perimeter defensive team in the league during those minutes. Either Bey or Caruso I’d gladly give up a protected first round pick.

Games like the Clippers make me think that going all in on trading for OG might be worth the gamble. This knicks team stuggles with defending long wing players. Maybe if we have OG the knicks can somehow keep these long opposing wings in check.

How about draft jalen Wilson? He’s 6-8 225 and won’t cost us 3 years of payments. I’d rather draft a high quality center and wing. Salary controlled for 5 years. It will cost 5 drafts to pick up OG. I’d rather get Bey for a moderate cost and keep our picks

OG is the best defender in the league for guys like KD, Kawhi, PG etc. you just can’t get that easily in the draft.
