How about draft jalen Wilson? He’s 6-8 225 and won’t cost us 3 years of payments. I’d rather draft a high quality center and wing. Salary controlled for 5 years. It will cost 5 drafts to pick up OG. I’d rather get Bey for a moderate cost and keep our picks
OG is the best defender in the league for guys like KD, Kawhi, PG etc. you just can’t get that easily in the draft.
Who i would love at the deadline is OG, Caruso or Bey.
Who i expect at the deadline is Malik Beasley or Gary Harris.

Funny - watching the Clippers & Lakers losses has me in the camp that we aren't building anything on this foundation. The closest thing we have to a cornerstone piece is JB, and he is a wonderful player, but undersized, under-athletic, bothered by bigger players.
I trade Cam for a future draft pick and I'd also trade Obi- even though I love him- just because he deserves a chance to perform and have a bit better system to run with.
We should be sellers and looking to acquire youth, draft capital.

They’re gonna want a deal similar to gobert.

We are a decent mediocre team. Not a contender. To contend we need to either:
1) Continue to hope that RJ develops into a legit consistent superstar, like a Kawhi or a Paul George
2) Trade for a legit superstar who will be complementary to Randle/Brunson and who is not a headcase like Kyrie
3) Trade everyone and start from scratch, looking to pick generational talent through high lottery picks
I think it is too early for 3), would prefer to see how the team develops for a couple of years around Randle-Brunson.
1) and 2) mean we stand pat at the deadline. I would be cool with that.
Our team depth is as good as any in the league. Any trades around 2nd tier players will bring no or marginal improvement for us. It is in the top-tier talent where we are behind the contending teams.
Every team claims “We are not just going to give away…………….”,
Everyone talking tough about not selling low.
No shit.
At the end of the day quality costs.
The gobert dilemma
Lesson to be learned
Unless u know the piece you’re trading for is THE piece then just don’t do it.
Essentially u lose your downside hedge for 6 years — meaning if u have an issue you have no lottery pick or cap room to adjust/ rectify. A player and age the level of a Devon booker— if we have enough with him— yes. An og — no. He’s not the final piece. Toronto is not that good w him and we have similarities w them. An all in trade similar to what we passed on for Mitchell can only be for a specific type like booker. Zach Lavine to me is no longer there. Has to be a franchise player— nothing less. We prob paid less for Carmelo Anthony

Yes……Now we talking my language. Trade high, even if it’s everybody favorite punching bag, who really represents a hard nose NYer, in Randle. We see what works and what’s missing. Sell sell sell and find some gems in this deep draft. We not going anywhere fast. We tried and this foundation has cracks. Need a new foundation to build on, where JB can flourish. Thibs will turn JB into an mvp candidate like he did Drose.
RJ or Randle but not both. Let’s be honest. These two will not get us out the first. And if they do, the ceiling is the 2nd round at best. Or sell to these playoff teams still chasing a championship dream.
Honestly if we had a Bogdonavic type this year we would be up at the top of the east. We have lost and given away more games then any team in the clutch. RJ and Randle consistently make plays that defer comprehension. Almost losing the heat game was near impossible and they should have.
Our coach doesn’t know how to keep his players fresh, over plays everyone. Doesn’t know rotations or offense.
Our front office is suspect, honestly thinking Fournier, Reddish, Noel, Kemba, Rose we’re worth signing to contracts at those numbers is alarming. You have also know your coach isn’t going to play Reddish or Obi.
Caruso is the guy for the bench, smart player, good defender, pushes the tempo and the crowd will love him and he will make guys better in a team concept.
BigDaddyG wrote:I hope these Malik Beasley rumors are just rumors. I wouldn't mind Vanderbilt tho.
If I didn’t play Fantasy basketball last year I wouldn’t know who Vanderbilt is. But luckily I picked him up off waivers last year and he was very solid defender and gave me rebounds and blocks. Beasley provides everything Vanderbilt doesn’t. That’s probably a good trade if we not trying to sell the farm. We would still have our picks and team will be deep.
With the OG trade it’s tricky. I rather have OG but not if we have to deplete our entire team of future. OG is a tricky one because he will be a high ticket item and someone will get fleeced for him.
Will be an interesting trade deadline.
Anything to trade deadline 4 days out and RJ sat?
Is the kid plain exhausted?
Did Brunson take a day off vs. Miami?
MS, for a young team they need to learn how to play thru games like the ones you mentioned. Starting two 22 year olds is not easy.
Fact is Miami is very good at defense and knicks hung on.
Our coach is winning more than not.
Our front office also signed Randle, Brunson, RJ, Hartenstein, Mitch, Mook, Then traded him for became IQ, etc.
So easy to say what we are missing mid season.
MS wrote:DRose worked out, but it also put them in the playoffs gave them a false sense of who the team was and led to horrible free agent signings. Would have been better to reset.
Let IQ run the team last year and have some growing pains.
Exactly. If it was me, IQ would’ve been the starter already. Then we could’ve made solid FA signings because we know what we got. now we know better can we do better? We know the value in IQ and Grimes. We trust deuce and Obi in the second unit. The real issue is the big 3. Can we win consistently with these 3 in the starting unit or is it better to bring RJ off the bench. Replace him with a 3 and D player who will not compete with JB and Randle on shot attempts.

Brunson was sick and now RJ is. Seems like a virus going on in the lockerroom.

Conspiracy contagious? LoL..........
If its a fever, EF had it last night!!!!!
It was fun to see him get going. Tough to not play and keep defense game ready.
I like the way the team is playing trade or not.
You guys know the expression - “sometimes the best trade is the one you don’t make.” A few weeks ago many here were intent on putting IHart on a bus for a 2nd rounder. Last night Fournier had an emergence to join Deuce in that regard. And we don’t need to address the desires of the Randle dump crowd of not that long ago ago do we? Of course I’m not against improving the team’s talent. But sending firsts and former first rounders and Fournier for a Caruso or Vanderbilt when you might be better off standing pat is a concern to me.
And as much as I may be “pro-Thibs,” the Thibs factor is, uh, a factor. Did Fournier have a good game because of his doghouse days or in spite of it? A newbie comes aboard against his wishes and finds that doghouse door wide open. My overall point? No need to sell the future for the uncertain.

To be honest, I think I would do an Obi for Vanderbilt straight up. Vanderbilt slides in much more smoothly in the lineup than Duarte. I also wouldn't be too upset if the Detroit pick is moved. I have feeling it will turn into two second rounders by the time it gets to us anyway.
we need shooting but outside of G.Allen i haven't really heard of a clutch shooter.
I would definitely be intrigued by OG for the right price BUT very wary of trades with Raptors and have heard nothing to suggest reasonable price
i am definitely intrigued by S.Bey both because i have liked his game when I've seen him play and he seems more achievable get
Forget OG. This is who we have to go after.
For those, like me, who wanted to add Caruso. F that!
Can imagine what they want for Zach.
Siakam's name is starting to pop up on rumors. Seems like the Nets will be aggressive to try to replace kyrie with either OG or Siakam among others.
Im still hoping the knicks can land either players, i think im more comfortable with OG who is younger and would likely demand less offensive touches than Siakam. If they can get OG by the deadline im good with than then evaluate the team and make another big trade in the offseason if a superstar becomes available hopefully be closer to being contenders by then
