Knicks · Josh Hart to Knicks (page 15)

Hart said the green light Thibbodeau has given him is the first time in an NBA career that has spanned six different coaches and four different teams that he has had that kind of freedom. The Knicks’ coach made sure to correct him.

“Ultra green,” Thibodeau joked.

Oh that Thibs...

Oh that Thibs...

I dont remember enough about Hart's game pre-Knicks, to venture a good guess why other coaches wouldnt want to let Hart get buckets.

Here's a bad one, maybe because he was really good at the other things, like rebounding, D. That he got pigeon-holed as more of a glue guy than scorer.

Cheers to Thibs for giving teams a "Hart attack"

Honest question: what does *not* having the green light look like in the NBA? Does the coach tell you "don't shoot"? Or "don't shoot too much?" Or, "you have an amber light?"
Honestly, I'm just curious what that would be (my last comment/joke notwithstanding)

From the same article:

https://nypost.com/2023/02/16/whats-behi...

“The biggest thing was it was tough at times [in Portland] because I wasn’t as involved in the offense in a way,” Hart told Sports+. “So there were times I didn’t touch the ball for four or five minutes. And then I get a shot, [with] six seconds [left on the shot clock]. If I was a JJ Redick, Kyle Korver, it would be cool. But I’m not just a catch-and-shoot guy. I’m more of a rhythm shooter, rhythm shot-maker.

“For me, it was tough to not be involved or not touch the ball for three, four, five-minute stretches at a time, and then an open shot, and I feel I have no rhythm at all.”

Before the trade, Hart was shooting a career-low 30.3 percent from distance and attempting only 2.2 shots from downtown, surprising numbers for a player who was a career 34.7 percent 3-point shooter on 4.2 attempts per game. He made just eight 3-pointers in all of January on 25.8 percent shooting. But so far as a Knick, Hart has shown no hesitation from beyond the arc. He has taken 14 attempts in three games and hit nine of them, including shooting 3-of-5 from deep Wednesday night in a 122-101 win over the Hawks. Thibodeau made it clear to Hart upon his arrival that he wants him to let it go whenever the shot is there.

“I’m confident with it,” Hart said. “I’m going to shoot it when I’m open and I’m going to play. Being involved in ball screens, handoffs, it’s kind of [liberating]. When you have the ball like that, you’re involved and you’re in rhythm, then those catch-and-shoot opportunities feel a little bit better.”

His form is not great but for now he is hitting them. Seems to have that bit of fade away thing that Reddish had.
I'd expect Thibs to give him the great light but he also have the maturity to know when to get it done.

This looks like a guy we dont' expect to have issues with resigning?

we really are building this up nicely. Brunson and Randle arent ball movers, but they ARE willing passers and they do. There's a ton of shots to be had on any given night on this team and I love not knowing who's gonna feast. We can really attack the weak links, especially on the perimeter.

In past teams were able to hide shit defenders on our shooters like Reggie and that's just gone. You know Thibs is saying if you get the ball and Trae is guarding you go right fucking at him

Before the Josh Hart addition:
Knicks Defense ranked 29th in made 3's allowed per game @ 13.2.

After the Josh Hart addition
Knicks Defense ranks #1 in made 3's allowed per game @ only 8.6.

It's just insane the type of culture impact he's already made; especially on Defense.

Be very, very careful with small sample sizes, where standard variance can often be mistaken for a specific cause and effect.

I HOPE the Knicks rank anywhere in the top 10 after 25 more John Hart games.

But attributing it directly to him after 3 games is a statistical and logical minefield.

Thought I'd post this here instead of starting a new thread. Most Knick fans would give Hart an A grade while Portland fans seems to be just ok with Cam.

He’s already sold on the Knicks. Hart can see himself being part of the franchise for years to come.

“That’s something I definitely want to do,” Hart, acquired at the trade deadline from the Trail Blazers, said on Thursday after practice. “I want a home. I want to find a home. This is a place where I would love that home to be. On the court, there are so many things that align with my principles as a player and off the court just being around with friends and close to family. This would be an amazing spot. Hopefully they feel the same.

“It’s a perfect situation for me on and off the court.”

If Hart continues to play like this, I'd definitely want to bring him back but I wouldn't break the bank for him.

Josh Hart is my favorite Knick… that was quick

If Hart played three decades ago my dad would’ve told me “control what you can, approach the game the right way, play like Josh Hart”

If Hart is on the team when my sons are old enough to understand, that’s what I’ll be telling them too

This and I thought our 3pt defense had improved before the Hart trade- so there was already a positive sample in the last month or so. He is just giving more energy to what we already had going.

Looks like the FO really hates the idea of adding rookies to the roster.
And fixated on getting into the playoffs this season by any means necessary, future be damned.
Might as well kill the double-draft thread now.

Future looks bright.

We're getting a player who is currently averaging 33 mpg and where exactly is he going to play? One of the best parts of this season were the young guys like Grimes and Deuce being a part of it. Deuce especially was starting to come around and started hitting shots and now he's going to be buried. And for what?

Dumb trade imho.

The needle has been moved.
JHart is the glue guy we needed.

This the BS I’m talking about Hofstra. Why? What’s the point? Is it a thrill you have? Did you reply when serg first wrote that? Of wait until after hart is now 5-0 to step on his post. There’s several posters like Briggs who does this all the time, and thankfully he still keeps it moving. Because I enjoy Briggs in the moment thinking. Write or wrong it’s his honest feedback in the moment. Knee jerk reaction? Sure. But it encourages discussion and doesn’t kill it.

Sorry but it’s a waste of energy to me, and potentially creates unnecessary dialogue. For example:

Sergio was right. At the time it was dumb. Deuce was playing well and developing. Why bring in a vet to take away from development when the yoots are developing well. Grimes mins was also cut back so his development takes a back seat. See what I just did. Potentially start a negative discussion when everything is so positive right now. Maybe I’m just getting old and maybe I’m in my “get off my lawn old man moment”

Some might be defensive about it and that creates chat emotional responses, depending on the person and how the person is feeling. Serg is fine I’m sure but just calling this out and showing how it can force a negative long interaction. Small and maybe a little weak of an example but anyway.

Hart is definitely the glue guy we needed. And I’m not worried about deuce being buried. I’m more excited for deuce to have a mentor he can learn from. It’s a fine balance between developing and winning. And the hart is that perfectly balanced move without disrupting the chemistry. Excellent job by the FO with this move.

At least deuce got his chance and fans got to see how he looks against other nba players. That’s all deuce fans was asking for. Shout out to thibs for having a set of players he like and sticking with them. U can tell he loved hart from day 1. Perfect glue guy.
