You think our starting PG is upset about getting Josh Hart?!?!?

GustavBahler @ 2/9/2023 12:38 AM
Talk about timing! lol

I like this trade. Was surprised that Obi wasnt involved. Makes me wonder how Thibs is planning to use Hart.

This wasnt a swing for the fences, when the team doesnt need one. We'll see how the young players finish the season. Thats going to play a role in the FO's next move.

I'm not sure why we even needed to create another thread. lol

It will be interesting to see the new rotation.

Spent 3 first round picks (counting the pick expended on selecting Knox) to pander to RJ and JB by acquiring their college buddies. Wonder how RJ feels now that the Knicks are pandering to JB instead of him.
Looks like the FO really hates the idea of adding rookies to the roster.
And fixated on getting into the playoffs this season by any means necessary, future be damned.
Might as well kill the double-draft thread now.

Knicks still positive 3 picks. Not sure how much of the Knox pick you can put on the current office. I think they see a window as long as they don't meet Milwaukee in the playoffs.

franco12 @ 2/9/2023 7:09 AM
So does this put RJ on notice? Because he really should be moved to the bench, and Hart starting with Grimes.

So - whose minutes will he take? Is it Grimes & RJ? Is it Obi?

We will have the Dallas pick and Rokas likely incoming.

VDesai @ 2/9/2023 7:34 AM
This is a nice trade for the Knicks. Hart is a great offensive rebounder - which fits with how the Knicks play. Not hitting his 3s this year, but he is shooting 50 pct from the field. His defense probably means he will be a crunch time player.

Where does his minutes come from? Probably takes from Deuce. Probably takes some from Barrett - i think more from Barrett than Toppin.

Nalod @ 2/9/2023 8:54 AM
If I have to guess, minutes come from Deuce, RJ, and IQ if he goes 10 deep.
If he stays 9 deep Deuce is out. Grimes could have some reduced as Hart/RJ wings.
Looking just at this season. Who knows after this.
If Obi gets dumped for a pick, RJ can play back up there.
SergioNYK @ 2/9/2023 9:00 AM
I don't like it. It doesn't make sense unless there is a follow up trade. Hart is a nice player but I don't think he moves the needle and we gave up a pick in the process. We're getting a player who is currently averaging 33 mpg and where exactly is he going to play? One of the best parts of this season were the young guys like Grimes and Deuce being a part of it. Deuce especially was starting to come around and started hitting shots and now he's going to be buried. And for what?

Dumb trade imho.

Actually - as I think about - no more Evan Fournier sightings.

No more Derek Rose.

RJ probably is going to lose minutes.

And McBride - but as much of a fan as I am of McBride and the energy he brings, Josh Hart has to be a positive upgrade.

Is this a franchise altering, championship move? No.

But we probably have enough picks this off season - Dallas and Washington might yet make the play offs.

And I think it moves the needle in that some of these close games that turned to collapses we'd have one if we had a guy that Thibs could rely on.

If you're worrying about someone's long term role and future with the team from acquiring Hart, I think it's RJ.

Alpha1971 @ 2/9/2023 9:11 AM
But now whenever Heart and Hart pass to each other it can be a " Heart to Hart connection "
ramtour420 @ 2/9/2023 9:18 AM
If Grimes or Deuce lose playing time I will be pissed. If RJ loses time, uh not so much. Hart is a better defender and finisher at the rim. Might light a fire under RJs ass

People keep saying three picks but that Charlotte pick is highly unlikely to convey and will become two seconds. Of course Knox was a waste but not the fault of the FO. As to hating adding rookies let’s see IQ, Obi, Grimes, Sims, Deuce…okay whatever.

gradyandrew @ 2/9/2023 9:27 AM
I'm thinking:
Brunson/IQ
Grimes/ Deuce
Hart
Randle/ RJ
Robinson/ Hartenstein

yeah... future be damned is an overreaction to say the least. We got a quality rotation guy for a garbage player and a lottery protected pick in a draft we have at least 1 FRP
fishmike @ 2/9/2023 9:33 AM
Ultimate TANK!!!!!

Knicks are 7th... Wizards are 1/2 game out of the last play in. Imagine a scenario where the Wizards knocked us out of the playoffs/play in resulting in their pick conveying and Knicks keeping theirs as its a lottery pick (which we of course win and draft Wemby)

I'm going with...

C: Mitchell Robinson.
PF: Julius Randle.
SF: R.J. Barrett.
SG: Quentin Grimes.
PG: Jalen Brunson.

C: Isaiah Hartenstein.
PF: OBI TOPPIN.
SF: Josh Hart.
SG: Deuce McBride.
PG: Immanuel Quickley.

(10 man rotation + Jericho Sims @ times).

With Josh Hart spelling both of R.J. Barrett/Quentin Grimes @ SG/SF while getting 22-25+ minutes per game.

In other words all 3 of Barrett/Grimes/Hart will keep each other fresh while it's Deuce McBride who loses minutes and takes a back-seat.

I would like some size behind Randle but Obi is here and restricted so nothing has to be done yet.
Day is young still.
Im a fan of Grimes but Hart could start. Grimes has hit a bit of a wall.
Not saying it lasts forever.
I know what fans think of RJ, we don’t know what knicks coaches and FO does. My fanboy in me does not allow objectivity but I think we have over relied on him and while he is in his 4th year, he still is 22 and might have hit an exhaustion wall to some extent.
He does shine at end of games.
I doubt he goes to the bench and Hart plays the 3. He is a guard.

If Grimes is expendable does that open him up to be part of a big trade? Just talking out loud. If OG was on the table and Raptors wanted him we it palatable for us to move him.
Suprised Toronto has been quiet thus far.
