I think they have kept the right guys at the right price. RJ is the only one I have doubts on but I would have resigned him to that also. Feels like you gotta give him that and hope he levels up.

That being said I would love to see Grimes get the lion's share of RJ's shots and move RJ for a stopper at the 3

Does Rose get any credit for the Alec Burks deal or does he lose it for trading him away? That deal looks like one of the better bargains in the league. If Knicks make it to the second round, maybe I trade RJ for Bogdanovic and Burks.

You are going to trade a 22yr old hopefully rising star for a 31 yr old and a 33 yr old? Trades like that destroy the future of a franchise. Imagine if RJ takes the next step with the next team and you have to watch that for the next 10 yrs.

Yeah these RJ hate jobs are getting out of hand. He is 22. I’m not trading him for anything short of a young upgrade who is a better fit.

Imagine he doesn’t…….and you miss out and filling out team needs because you’re worried about “age”

Age “time-lines” is Such a dumb way to build a team

Burks and Bogdonovic are guaranteeing a championship? Really? Trading RJ to win one playoff series? No thanks. Age 22, 3rd pick in the draft , yes he is guaranteed to get better. Age 31, 33 are guaranteed to be on the downhills of their careers. Sorry, dumb trade. I am old enough to have gone through this before. Rod Strickland for Mo Cheeks. We watched Strickland leave at age 23. He was a very good player for many years. Turned out better than Mark Jackson. Strickland played in the league till age 38.

Just this year, Knicks kinda sorta have these in play:

MIP: Jalen
6MOY: IQ
COY: Thibs
Best free agent signing: Jalen
All defensive team: Mitch
All star and maybe all NBA team: Julius

None of those awards will come through but I think those guys are at least candidates

He’s 22 and we will have made the playoffs twice in the 4 years since we drafted him, the other 2 years one was year one of the rebuild and the other we won 37 games with no point guard, and I don’t care about internet knowitalls whining about him he has absolutely been a contributor to the success

In pro sports, the rub isn't the what, it's the how.

The how was Perry fleecing the mavericks for Porzingis 4 years ago and instead signing Randle. KD/Kyrie did us a favor snubbing us. We tanked for RJ. And then we made a bunch of smart moves like trading Morris for a pick that turned into IQ. Good low key signings like Noel, Burks etc

Never. That is exactly the type of move the front office we moved on from would make. Complete opposite of what we have in place.

Ding...

Celtics have Horford.

Bucks have Middleton and Holliday.

Warriors always had Iguodala.

The idea a team has to be ALL guys 25-28 grouped together by no more than 3 years in a fan fantasy.

Having savvy veterans in your line-up isn't a bad thing.

No, he isn't.

I'll go 12 rounds with anyone who says he isn't improving or can't improve. But it's by no means a guarantee he will.

Mever. That is exactly the type of move the front office we moved on from would make. Complete opposite of what we have in place.

I think Knicks fans may need to come to terms with the fact this team in no longer is 'build the foundation' mode. As of right now, this team is in 'get over the hump in a year or two' mode.

Robinson, Randle, Brunson are in place. Got some bench depth in the (i)Harts. IQ or Grimes can probably man the 2.

This team is a HIGH quality 3 from being a legit title threat, as soon as 2024-25. Not saying it can't be Barrett, but if the Knicks think they can package some firsts and move the timeline up to next year, as opposed to dreaming on 2 or 3 years from now, I have little doubt they'll do it.

Commented on proposed trade above. A smart FO would never trade RJ for those two.
Do agree that RJ needs to step up quickly. A lot of things I do not like about his game. Do think he has shown enough to warrant some patience. How many years will depend on feasible alternatives.
If he finishes like he did last year and plays well in playoffs, the pendulum will swing back in his favor.

I wasn't necessarily talking about THAT trade. But on the other hand, i don't think their ages is THE factor. Not a factor at all, really.

Bogdanovic's defensive liabilities makes that a no for me.

Listen, I reliably defend Barrett from his fixated fatalists, but IF (not going to get into the specific logic of trades) PG-13 or Kawhi were available for Barrett-Fournier and tons of picks (just for sake of discussion), I don't hesitate for a second. Because in this case I'm not thinking about his 28-32 years when who knows where Randle, Brunson, and Robinson will be.

I'm not thinking maybe-dynasty.

I'm thinking get me one in the next 3 years.

Even the worst contracts on the team Evan and Rose are not bad. Both have been excellent vets and no doubt help the team in practice to help the rotation defend quality offensive assignments when preparing to play against quality 3 pt shooters and drivers they have to defend Evan and Rose in practice, that must have value Evans deal is basically an expiring this summer and is a good salary slot needed to match contracts for a deal If they choose to pick up the team option for Rose it will be the same trade slot for future trades. Evan was a mistake but it's not the contracts this team has given out in the past. Every team has a bad contract look at Miami with Robinson and the Nets with Simmons

I’ve put my clear stance out there.

Go ahead and take a dip into the deep end and give us your thoughts on RJ.
