Knicks · Is this better than Linsanity? As good as the 54 win or 2020 teams that weren't sustainable? Better the 1999 run? (page 1)

How does this year match up?
SergioNYK @ 3/6/2023 10:37 AM
On par with the 54 win team heading into the playoffs as of right now and can't put them against that 1999 team until we see the ending.
Chandler @ 3/6/2023 11:08 AM
i'm in the this is better camp

we have a bunch of ascending players, so things can get better still (e.g., if Grimes starts hitting his shots, or Obi wakes up), no divas (sorry Melo), who like each other and play for each other. Linsanity felt unreal like a fairy god mother said let's make this UFA NBA's best player for a stretch. 54 wins had the Melodrame -- whether he and Stat could simultaneously play their best, complement each other. 2020 was awesome but had the bubble, unreal-ness. 1999 was awesome in so many ways but also felt like a team getting super hot at precisely the right time.

My biggest concern with this team is not peaking too early. Hoping Thibs keeps them even keeled

foosballnick @ 3/6/2023 11:16 AM
'99 run and Linsanity were both like getting an immediate jolt from an energy drink.

This year is more satisfying for me - feels like a sense of accomplishment after a slow multi-year build and with the team finally having a continued future to look forward to.

Better than both because it’s more sustainable. This is the best Knicks situation in the UK era.

Knicks ARE a good team, but the current 3 pt shooting isn't sustainable, if NBA history is relevant.

It's ridonkulous right now.

Uptown @ 3/6/2023 11:48 AM
Can't compare this to the 99 run because that run started in the playoffs (as an 8th seed) and ended with a trip to the finals...The electricity in the city was on another level. If this team makes a run in the playoffs, then we can compare...

Optimistically, this can be a better run than the 54 win team mainly because we have a much younger team that can make multiple runs, next year and the year after, etc. Objectively, I think some of new that 54 win team would be one and done considering the age. Don't think we expected to fall off the way we did though...

Knicks have been a below average 3pt shooting team all year and have found ways around it.

True, just pointing out a 1.000 winning % might not be sustainable :-)

I think fans here are for the most part too enthusiastic over this win streak and set up for a frustrating end.
Enjoy what is, not what can get better.
Think its smart to be talking about IQ money so soon as some are? Randle is the best player in the league?
In december some of y'all were wanting to burn it down.
Im not saying "I believed all the time". I was saying let the games tell the story.
And they are.
And they will.
So enjoy it, if we finish good, enjoy NOT being the the play in.
If we finish, enjoy a tough ass opening round. 4-5's are always a tough match up.
Im not taking a thing for granted. We been at this way to long for me to start getting uppity about expectations and lay blame if we don't beem that bloated ideal.
The wins are sweet.

Is it better than linsanity? I'll let know know after the season.
Better than 54 win season? BY the end Kidd coudl not walk, Kurt got hurt, Camby looked sleepy, and Rashweed was well beyond cooked. WE crawled to the finish line on the back of Melo.

The 99 run was great because it was in the playoffs. They fell flat against the spurs though

IT was. That team though was a massive regular season disappointment. its why JVG was about to get fired.
That team fulfilled its potential and was not a "Cinderella story" type run.
I recall never being upset when they lost to spurs. In fact, it was a hell of way to end that strike short season!

Nalod, whenever I read your post it sounds like a scorned lover who doesn't want to fall in love anymore, because your afraid to be hurt again. And these new age fans are too young to be scorned and already jumped out the window calling for ECF or Randle the best ever or (fill in the blank).

It's ok buddy. I don't think you will be hurt this time. This isn't some short term Linsanity story. We are looking at short and longterm synergy. Randle even said they actually like each other. IQ, Grime, Deuce, Sims.....These young guys are very humble and ready to learn. No divas (as someone said). A competent FO and a flexible yet old school coach. And the best of it all, an owner (Dolan) who doesn't put his hand in the cookie jar anymore.

If Dolan was the same owner as before, D.Mitchel would be a knick. IQ would be killing in Cleveland. And we would be a playin first round exit.

Now if this team is a first round exit, our future is just as bright, if not brighter than our current status. So cheer up, jump out the window and enjoy the bing bong celebrations. They don't come around too often in knick land.

Scored lover? Nah, just not being all needy and worried about if she'll answer my calls. She picks up, she picks up. If not, Im good.
Morning after im not running to buy an engagement ring or changing my facebook page. Just rolling with the good times.
Not worried about IQ getting paid.
Im just so happy some of you are not talking about the atlanta series from two seasons ago any more.

We finally here?

Martin, I think you need to close the site to new members. Only losers like us that have been around through the thick and thin.
Or at least put a gold star next to the old timers so we can ignore the opinions of the band-wagoners.

Can't tell from the scars? LOL
Nah, let them all in. Plenty of room on the bandwagon. More fun this way.
The Bing Bongers too. They need guidance.
Truth is many of them need a shower!

Rookie @ 3/6/2023 2:06 PM
Yes, because it is sustainable. We have assets, room for growth, good coaching, solid management. No matter what happens in the playoffs this season is a success. And it is repeatable next season.

Randle is becoming a super star and in his prime
Brunson is becoming an Allstar and in his prime
IQ, Mitch have levelled up.
RJ, Grimes room for growth. Next year is important for both these guys
iHart solid role player
Hart elite role player. Lock him up in the summer
Sims, Deuce and Obi are all useful roll players

This one is for real. A legitimate successful rebuild. And we ain’t done yet!

have to go back to Ewing Knicks - and I would argue this is a better roster/moment in franchise history because we got a FO that will find a way to improve- they've hit on late draft picks.

We could never get Ewing help and MJ was always waiting in the wings to slaughter us.

Randle may not be the best player, but I feel like there isn't a best player right now that can stop us if we meet in the play offs.

And if we do get stopped this year, I feel like we can run the same group back for the next 3-4 years with success, with hope that the FO will find ways to nab good players to help.
