Obi is a scorer who if got more touches offensively he would become more involved overall like most young players. Leading to quicker pace of development. As long as Randle is in the picture he won't get those touches. Him being able to step in incase of injury is great. But Randle doesn't get injured often and plays a ton of mins.

When its time to get that next contract. Obi will be looking for an increase in mins and role so he can get paid. Which will be next season.

A decision will need to be made on if they can or are willing to up trade Randle(Keep an eye on Philly and Embiid) and plug Obi in. Or trade Obi for a player that is more versatile and can get mins by playing in different spots.

It will probably have to be for another team but I think he realistically could be a 20+ scorer if he has a pass-first pg on his team. Knicks likely will trade him between now and next year’s trade deadline. I doubt we can afford to extend him unless he is willing to stay on a VERY team-friendly contract.

1 rebound in 33 minutes...?

The game didn’t call for him to get 10+ boards

Perhaps. But Obi has a habit of not getting enough rebounds necessary for him to be effective in the PF role over the long haul.

He wasn't really going up against, you know, rebounding giants out there

It seems like thibs likes to use Obi’s quickness on defense and getting him in rotation out on the perimeter. That’s probably a big reason why Obi isn’t spending as much time in the crease the entire time getting rebounds

Yeah I like the simple answer, Obi is not much of a rebounder.

Not sure I would be able to definitively state this. While it certainly does not appear he will ever be a robo-rebounder type, for a guy who does not get a high amount of useage - his per 36 rebound numbers are not putrid (6.6 this season and 7.5+ in previous). When he received starter minutes last season, his rebounding appeared to be respectable. I haven't been able to watch much (or post much) in recent weeks - so not sure what is going on in his role as starter with some expanded minutes since the JR injury. Thing to watch is if they are releasing him out on the wing and on defense after the shot or is he just missing inside rebound opportunities? Also, there are a certain amount stat padding "empty" rebounds every game(i.e. missed free throws or uncontested) ....from what I've seen, these generally never go to Obi when he is on the floor.

Obi had 1 game with a low rebound number when game script didn’t call for him to get double digit rebounds but he’s now suddenly Eddy Curry

It's a strange spot but these last 3 games are super important. For Obi.

True. Knicks might not start series with Randle. If OBI can get it done and knicks winning series, then the better for Randle and maybe knicks.
I also like the idea of being open to a randle or obi trade if so desired by teams. Value in return.
The better they show, the better we all are either way.
Most important, beat Cav’s and lets make some noise!!!

The next 3 meaningless games will be just as important as the final stretch of the last season for him. I.e., not important at all.

The playoffs will be another story. I am really hoping for a breakout performance by him or any one of our other young players. The Cavs will be a solid test, just as balanced as we are, but better than us in terms of individual talent. Without a breakthrough revelation we do not stand a chance.

Also hope they step up. This is Obi's best chance to prove he's worthy of more PT next season. If he is still a Knick. Who knows what the offseason will bring?

IQ is going to get the star treatment in the playoffs, when it comes to opposing defenses. We'll see how he handles it.

Why can't Obi get minutes at the SF ?

From one of those those posters who go missing when the Knicks are doing well. I’m sure he’ll be back if we fall behind the Cavs.

Yep, give Obi a role in the offense, an actual role. Obi shows he can deliver.

Of course it’s an important stretch for Obi and it probably sets the market for him in summer of 2024. GMs are watching and if Obi has more games scoring 30+ points he will get an offer we probably won’t match

Obi's step back three tho!

Yeah that was something new for him. Impressive

I'm hoping TripleThreat is not in the hospital from heart attach from shock after seeing Obi nail so many 3's this season

The ski-rack for a step-back 3!

STOP THE PRESS.

Did you just say what I've been saying for a while, and the entire site got on me for it? Lets see how long it takes for the Randle Hives to come after you.

They can come. As long as they don’t make up shit Im good to discuss.
My take is not dumping either, but receiving value in return.
Sorry i don’t recall your position and the context to which it was delivered.

Can't Obi play the 3 ? I am thinking against bigger 3'z he should be

Sure, in some spot minutes. But Obi's lateral quickness is bad regardless of what forward spot you slot him in.

Maybe but let's find out. SF are usually the best offensive player so how many of them can any defender stop. Plus how many 3s can stop Obi ?
