Knicks · Thibs playing all the guys down 25 (page 1)

Just don’t get it. Randle is lucky

It doesn't make sense

Thibs unable to make in game adjustments

They gave us a double team on Brunson at the half court line. We did absolutely nothing with it. The only play where we took advantage of that double was when Brunson drew that foul on Allen. That's it. Otherwise we were dumbfounded by it there whole time. I expect to see more of that in game 3. Let's see if Thibs makes anything of it

BigDaddyG @ 4/18/2023 10:25 PM
Yes our coach is a maniac. If he can do it this in preseason then can't be surprised when he does it in playoffs when actual jobs are on the line.

I agree.

It’s a little too late to be upset at thibs now. He’s been this way since day 1. If you gonna cherish the good you have to accept the bad (unfortunately). I’ve been complaining about this since day 1 but I also acknowledge the good he’s done with this team during the regular season. Now it’s money time.

I looked back at the highlights of garland, and it’s clear that RJ doesn’t have the foot speed to help off his man (or any guard) and recover back to his man. IQ was also in those highlights. I bet deuce on the sideline like damn, they wouldn’t do that to me.

Let’s see how thibs adjust in game 3, which could be an indicator on who wins the series.

MS @ 4/19/2023 7:19 AM
It was disgraceful to watch. Continuity is important, but need to save your guys legs when you can.

Thibs needed to put IQ in at the point and allow Brunson to get a little space out there. It was surprising he was glue to the bench so long. We were just taking body blows.

Duece should have gotten some minutes just as a disruptor and to pick up Garland full court.

Also an occasional screen or a set play would be nice.

Thibs is very bad at recognizing when his guys don’t have it, it was obvious last night Brunson and Julius didn’t have it and it was a one on one show.

GustavBahler @ 4/19/2023 7:37 AM
Will never get used to Thibs putting his best players at risk, for no good reason. If Thibs gets fired, this strategy will likely play a big part in the FO's decision.

I don't believe coaching played a big part in this loss, because the team wasnt expecting the Cavs to hit back as hard as they did.

Like the Mike Tyson quote about everybody having a plan until they get punched in the face. The Knicks got punched in the face last night, and had no answer.

Its up to Thibs to have the team ready to respond in game 3. With physical and smart play.

No enforcers on the knicks.

Jarrett Allen bodied Julius. Nothing.

We need to go deep; forget this 9 man rotation. We need to be resilient and unpredictable. Deuce should get minutes versus garland. Sims should be bodying anyone who comes in the paint. Playoffs - use your weapons. Draw Fouls. Get more ball handling in there.

Less RJ. Less hart, now that he is injured.

Frankly, we won games during the regular season in spite of RJs play, not because of him. Only problem is trying to replace him

Cavs were done 0-1 and lost homecourt advantage. Thibs and the Knicks had to expect a desperate team playing with their season on the line. Brunson dropped 48 in the season finale and dominated in the 4th in game 1. The coaching staff had to be aware of the possibilities of Brunson being doubled...

Caseloads @ 4/19/2023 8:58 AM
Problem is, we need RJ to be something that he is not (yet, if ever). We need him to be a closer. It’s hard when your closer is a PG - unless that PG is steph curry.

Poor adjustment and strategy. Play more iq with Brunson

We need grimes to play more aggressively ok D.

Run larger, different defenses on garland. Rj, hart, grimes, iq

Nalod @ 4/19/2023 9:12 AM
When fans know more than actual pro coaches react to bad loss.
So y'all get upity when Reggie Miller starts ranting while our team is getting beaten AFTER of course Randle goes down.

Maybe ask yourself why he kept them in? If anyone was injured, they were out. Josh was out.
Seemed to me he wanted them to stay intense and finish with a good feeling? Quick found something, RJ went down hill, and Randle had that nice steal and dunk.
He is ok. It can happen at anytime of the game.
FInd something to carry over into game three?
Find more instances were tape can help teach?
Does Reggie Miller (who was on the ESPN broadcast) know more than Nalod? Of course. He also is color commentating a blow out. Ever notice the Master of controversy in a bad game, our own JVG, who gets outraged during boring game with outcome already in hand. This seeps into our heads while watching.
That Reggie was bringing up DRose injury was a cheap shot in my mind.

Also, can we recount who Clev had on the court? Not like they pulled Allen did they? DM was still out there?
What is more common or "Polite", the victor bring in their subs or the losing team?
Jarett Allen, DM, Mobley could have hurt Themselves as well.

The Knicks were literally bloodied. You can expect a team to come back with more effort, plan for it on paper. And still get your ass kicked. Which was the point of my Tyson quote. Games like this happen in the playoffs. Coaching wouldnt have changed it. We got outworked, outhustled.

Overall Knicks handled their business by gaining homecourt advantage. Thibs, the players know now what kind of punch this team packs in the playoffs. I dont expect to see them get outworked again.

Garland was contained in game one. Clev adjusted BEAT US.
Sometimes you lose, sometimes you get beaten.
Sometimes the players are doing the "right thing", but are not executing.
Why?
Sometimes the other team executes better. Not what fans want to hear.

VDesai @ 4/19/2023 9:46 AM
Its the playoffs. Guys need to get into a rhythm and get their mind right for the next game.

Cavs gave the Knicks some 90s medicine. Hard fouls, a bit dirty. Definitely a dirty, unnecessary foul by Allen, but he was sending a msg.

fishmike @ 4/19/2023 10:06 AM
Randle asked to stay in to get back into rhythm. But why bother with facts when you can make up your own narrative and get emotional about that
SergioNYK @ 4/19/2023 10:08 AM
Joking aside, why does he do this? Does Thibs think there is a real legit chance of coming back? Is it punishment for the players for getting blown out? I DON'T GET IT!!!!!!

Keep them in the game so they can find their rhythm against deep bench reserves? I'm sorry, but I can't agree with this. That is what practice is for. Our guys should've been taken out the minute Cleveland took their starters out.
