Hopefully the Garden crowd gives this team a standing ovation for the season. I think this coach and this roster maximized their potential this season. They deserve some cheers at the end.

But I won't surprised if Randle get's booed out the building.

Just give it your all, try your best and go down fighting. That's all you can really do. You can live with poor shooting games. You cannot live with poor effort and motor games (ahem Randle ahem).

I do hope the garden appreciates the season. I get Randle has not had some good moments. He helped us get to here. That is something that should not be forgotten..

100%.

2nd round...Game 5...at the Garden! That alone is reason to applaud.

Will be OK if the season ends tonight as long as the team gives it their all. Nothing left to save it for - we want to see energy and hustle. If you take plays off, you'll hear it.

LivingLegend @ 5/10/2023 11:10 AM
Losing tonight would really leave a bad taste and really put this whole roster construction in ? Going forward - at least for me. I mean I think Miami was #30 offensive team and we haven’t stopped them at all.

A win tonight and at the very least a solid (not incoherent) performance on Friday would be a positive.

Really don’t want to lose tonight because think it would damage perceived value of many of our players if we just fold.

franco12 @ 5/10/2023 11:48 AM
I will not be actively watching the game. I may tune in if they have a big lead at some point, but I can't aggravate myself. I'll make sure it is recorded.

If we do lose, I hope we win the lottery with Dallas's pick (11 baby!) and find a way to improve the team over the summer and start next year like we finished this season.

I mean...you can still root for that even if we win.

Fred Katz speaks to an eastern conference assistant coach. Some interesting insights. Here a few snippets
https://theathletic.com/4504169/2023/05/...

What’s one adjustment you would make in Game 5?

Just playing Randle at the five. I know it’s not something they did (in the regular season). I thought they found something at the end of Game 3, (when head coach Tom Thibodeau played Randle and Obi Toppin together at the end of a 19-point game). You could say it was a blowout, but I thought they had a good run with Toppin at the four and Randle at the five. I would explore that rather quickly. I know it’s not how they play, necessarily, but I would explore it.

I just don’t know if they’re doing that.

They did it. They did it at the end of Game 3.

Yeah, but they only do it when they’re down big at the end of games.

Totally. Yes, they do it when they’re down. You’re right. But it’s the playoffs. You’re not doing it at all if you’re not at least maybe thinking about it. Rewatching Game 3 this morning, I thought they found something there. They did. I think that there’s purpose behind trying it, and I would try it again. I don’t think that Mitch (Robinson) or Isaiah (Hartenstein) have been particularly good.

What other changes would you make?

I think one thing that they haven’t done a good job of, which I thought they did a great job of in the Cleveland series, is putting poor defenders in pick-and-rolls. I think that they have let go of that in this series. I know they’re trying to go at (Kevin) Love with (Mitchell) Robinson guarding him, and that’s a good way to go. If you’re just gonna lean into (Jalen) Brunson in pick-and-roll, which I think is a good idea, it needs to be against Love.

I thought one thing they didn’t do a great job of was when Duncan Robinson gets put in the game, he needs to be put in pick-and-rolls. That’s obvious. It looked like they were trying to do it and they haven’t found success doing it. Gabe Vincent is doing a great job of getting through pick-and-rolls. But if (Max) Strus is on (Quentin) Grimes, it’s on Grimes to do a better job at setting and holding the screen to force the switch.

^^ Julius at the 5 makes some sense. But it seems so far out of Thibs nature.

If they wanted my advice is that they need to team rebound. Get that board and go. Don't give Miami as much time to set up their D

And no matter how you slice it we need to hit shots from outside. Miami has used at least three different tactics to guard against the drives to the paint and to force the ball to be sprayed out. We need to hit those shots. Grimes, Obi, RJ (i'd say IQ but expect he's out) needs to hit some damn shots

If you wanted to boil this series down it comes to this. Miami's secondary guys like Vincent, Strus, and Martin are squaring up and hitting shots and Obi has like 4 total airballs at this point and he might be our best outside shooter at this point

VDesai @ 5/10/2023 2:45 PM
Grimes found his shot last game. We need him to be able to hit some 3s tonight. I would give Hartenstein more minutes- the one game we won, Hartenstein played a longer stretch and made a big 4th quarter impact with his rebounding and hustle. Even if those two things happen, we also still need a takeover game for Brunson, or (gasp) Randle.

It is not an impossible. This isn't Lebron, Wade, Bosh. However we need to lock ourselves in mentally, and hope that we still have something to summon physically. Maybe there's just too many ankle sprains to overcome. I dunno. But its not over yet.

I bet TV ratings for this series are pretty low. The games haven't been close enough for the media to play up 'play off Butler' heroics. The networks can't wait to forget about Knicks/Heat. I don't see the refs giving us the whistle tonight like they did game 2. Knicks are making progress towards respectability but it's ugly basketball and Knicks/Heat aren't really a rivalry anymore. Zero box-office draw. The Knicks will have to will a victory starting at tip off. Randle, it's time to show who wants it more.

OK, here it is

Earlier in the night, Knicks-Heat Game 4 averaged 4.56 million — down 9% from Celtics-Bucks last year (5.03M) and just the second game of the second round to post a year-over-year decline. The first was Game 3 of the same series on ABC Saturday.

Knicks-Heat Game 3 brought up the rear with a 2.1 and 3.91 million on ABC Saturday afternoon — down 12% in ratings and 16% in viewership from last year (Celtics-Bucks: 2.4, 4.65M).

VDesai @ 5/10/2023 3:14 PM
The Heat are probably the worst team to watch aesthetically. I said it before, but they are the modern version of the Fratello 90s Cavs. Slow it down, grind it out, shoot late in the clock and make the other team work. Its a great way to maximize having less talent than your opponent. They are executing their game plans perfectly. Have to give Spo a ton of credit for what he's done so far. That said, not exactly a great ratings draw!

His post basically saying - no credit for Knicks if they win tonight (credit the refs) yet at every other turn he would say you can't blame officiating.

He's pretty damn funny tbh.

Does anyone like watching the heat? Jimmy is not a real "star" and they are grinders. Giannis/Tatum are draws for NBA fans to turn into. Randle/Butler is not quite the same.
NBA viewship was up this year globally.
My nephew is a convert to knicks living in eastern NC. Nobody likes the Heat. To be honest, They have a lot to be proud of down there. Not sure they even like their team either! LOL....

Does like everyone on the Knicks have an injury except RJ?

Well, looks like team rebounding is the strategy already. Whenever a shot goes up or about to go up, all the knick players run to the paint. Then they either get an offensive rebound and kick it back out. Maybe it’s the drop coverage, regardless what you call it the players are in the paint when a hear player shoots or drives into the lane. This is why i consistently see RJ running out to his man and splash, 3 in his mouth.

We gotta do better

ekstarks94 @ 5/10/2023 6:02 PM
Honestly...the end of game 4 just watching Miami go through what seems like a 4 mins possession with offensive rebound after offensive rebound....we looked like a tired fighter....yeah we did not get knocked out...but damn sure we were not making it up on the scorecards in the 12th round.

I was talking about defensive rebounding. Need to stop Miami’s extra possessions and also transition quickly to offense to prevent them from setting up on D as effectively

KnickDanger @ 5/10/2023 6:49 PM
I expect a win.
