FO hit a home run signing a fringe player that has now proven he is a legitimate All Star.
Randle recovered from a disappointing year to become an All Star/All NBA for second time.
IQ had a great year proving he is a legitimate piece. Especially as a sixth man.
Small additions of JHart and IHart proved how important glue guys can be.
As good as we were, now it's time to improve.
Some needs:
JB needs a legitimate co Star next to him. Someone that will shine in the bright lights and pressure. Like how he just did throughout the playoffs.
We need pro shooters. Been saying for many years, this is three point league. We need guys that are efficient from the 3 pt. line.
We need some scoring out of our 5. Love MR but elite teams have more versatile player at 5.
We need to improve our bench. As we saw in the Miami series, unproven yoots are not enough in the playoffs. Miami has several vets that came off their bench.
With that being said, I will stay away from who the additional star may be. Since their are not really any readily available. Only a move that would stem from things no one really sees right now.
However, I think it's time to offer up some of our draft assets, couple of our hopefuls and either Randle or RJ. Randle production will be hard to replace for the amount he is making. He provides much needed rebounding and a physical presence but not consistent enough when it counts. May have been Bams defense and injury but he provides little in Miami series. RJ is a tough guy to stop going to the basket. Great work ethic and attitude. But he too is undependable and inconsistent. He also lacks the outside shooting needed Would be okay with keeping one but not both. Which one goes will depend on their viable replacement. Right now, seems like RJ is easier to replace or improve on. But open to say Ingram or someone else close to Randle's production for him.
Possible additions.
Center position. Brook Lopez or Vucevic.
Lopez is extremely efficient and an excellent defender. May be hard to pry away from Bucks but they will have a new coach and who knows what the preference will be Vucevic is a talented offensive player and would add much more versatility at the 5. Possibility Bulls ignore him in FA with the organization seeking direction.
Bench help:
Move Grimes back to bench if we add a high profile SG. He excelled their a year ago. Until he gets more experience. Have said it before, right now he play like someone is screaming at him to hurry up. Need to improve his inner clock. Also, improve bench by adding some FAs available such as Seth Curry, Lonnie Walker, Ingles, Niang and Alec Burks as possible options. All solid shooters and have experience. Lastly, keep JHart and I Hart.
As for the big names, aside from ones we cannot see yet, feel the move that would make the most difference is getting a Professional two way SF. Move on from RJ and get a true three and D SF. May have to pull the bandaid off for my suggestion OG. Maybe Bridges. If we move on from Randle, I would like to see the Knicks go after Grant in FA.

I would add Ayton to the center option list. He’s going to be better outside of Phoenix because he will be happier. He doesn’t want to be in Phoenix and has been trying to essentially play himself out of there. I believe we can buy lower than his talent. Phoenix is trying to win a title but would have to consider Robinson and picks as they can flip the picks in the offseason for role players to surround KD and Booker. Adding Ayton plus a cheap shooter like a Burks (maybe Detroit wants next year’s 2nd round pick back) would help.

If we remove Randle we need to replace at least some of his production. Forget points, Obi can score 15 a game as a starter and others will score more with those Randle touches1. We will really miss rebounds and inside toughness. We are not an assists team, we are all ISO and offensive boards.

For what Randle makes he is quite a bargain. You bring up good points. That Embiid “failed”, as has every star not on a still playing team to carry their team too.
While I don’t view Randle as untouchable by any stretch, I am in the camp that better production from other players will enhance his play also. Sure you make a move if a super star is available but I think we need better play from the 2 and 5 offensively. I think Grimes has a nice future but Mitch is 25 and this is likley his ceiling or near it.
He brings a lot to the team, but he cannot play a two man game, has no offensive moves, and I makes it harder for Brunson as well.
Can we get better thru organic growth? Yes. Trades need not solve everything.

Ayton may be fools gold as he is talented and we could possibly acquire him at a low sell point... but I watched Mitch dominate him physically on a few occasions and he is super soft. Thibs would resign the next day... so maybe?

That's exactly how you don't improve. Make moves based on what if and hope.
Replace Randle should replace Randle.
Proven production. We have the assets to do so.
Not with let's give guys that have proven to be just okay for guys that have produces.
Wanted Obi to be what you think he can be. But only see a soft 3pt shooting PF with little ability to do anything else. Grimes does not need Randle gone to show more. He needs to just get better all around. RJ I would agree would benefit from not having Randle. But is a low efficiency, bad shooter with bad court vision the one you want replacing Randle.
Again, we could say RJ and Grimes would get better but we can also use the past as a barometer and say probably not.
Want to get better by adding proven better players. Not hopefuls.

Ayton is a great interior defender when motivated. He fits better than meets the eye.

Yeah - I would be interested to know what price is for Ayton. He was definitely pissed at Sun’s mgmt for matching his offer sheet from the Hawks (?) and I think he’s a guy that need to be more involved. I’m not sure if he’s lazy or a pain in ass or he just wants out- I know he had issues with Monti.
Would I trade Mitch for Ayton? Yes but $ don’t match. Mitch/Obi/Fournier for Ayton/Shamet works.
I liked Duarte year 1 but man with injury and poor shooting he looked BAD last year.

What are these hypothetical Randle/ RJ trades? Nothing annoys me more than the trade x player and draft picks for "a true number one" or in this case "a true number two" option. All-star and near all-star players are traded from teams looking to rebuild to teams looking to make a push. How does Randle fit in?
Are we trading him to a team looking to go all in who for some reason is going to trade a better player?
Are we trading him to a team looking to rebuild who will now have a 28 year old all NBA All-Star on their roster?
Are you thinking about a Halliburton/ Hield for Sabonis trade where teams are trading players at different positions? Just say Randle for X players and we can talk about it.
Not sure if you have been reading the news but Bucks and Philly fired their coaches and Knicks handily beat the Cavs. Can this same core compete for a top 3 conference record next season? I say yes.
