Possible you missed the last season and the post-season and are stuck in 2021?

It has nothing to do with reason. It's about the inner narrative - aka the voices in the head.

Rings bro. It's been miserable for 50 years.

I quite enjoyed the 90s.

We trading IQ then? I dig rumors but there are effects to such moves.
Not likely as his family rooted in LA.

IF Lavine is so appealing, why are Bulls trying to trade him? Does that contract become an albatross for us too? Of course it does.
With New CBA, super max contract players who are not super max players should be cheap.

KAT: Rumor floating he and his girlfriend are shopping for a place in Manhatten. Could be. Knick thing. A Net thing, or good for her to have a place for her career? Some guys own places in LA, some in NYC, some in Miami and don’t play there. KAT has lots of family in the area, it logical beyond the “CAA, Leon, Home, etc” thing. We forget KAT and THibs did not work once upon a time. They older and wiser now.

Nalod not object to these players but not a full retail prices. You add these guys to WIN NOW but not. Subtract from on court talent. If These teams want to dump them for their reasons, thats one thing. Minny and new ownership paid big for Rudy and have budding star in Edwards. They’d want talant in return. Lavine? Tell me why they want to trade Lavine?

I also thought d rose and ef for cp3

Even in a vacuum, no one does this type of trade, cause then you have, you know, dead'ish weight contracts of DRose and Fournier on your cap

can Knicks trade Drose NOW and then new team deny his team team option if its a June 30th thing? Then its one year of EF which at least he is a decent player to put out there?

The logistics of this scenario have been a question on my mind too and I think NO but don't really know for sure

I believe team option has to be picked up. Player option retains his.
Chris Paul got traded and his team option????? Seemingly it got moved with him. Pay him 15mil to walk, or 30 to stay?

The team option was exercised as part of the trade. CP is locked in at 30M

Is Obi's brother still in the draft or eligible to come into the NBA ? Be funny if we get him as a UDFA

Buying a second seems more our style.

Been reading about Obi in a package for a first rounder. If its to draft a player to mostly stand in the corner, and hoist 3s like Obi. Im against it. Has to be about more than a reset.

The Knicks FO is of the same opinion, they didn't want Obi just to stand in the corner and was hoping for more, and that's why he is likely a goner

That was Thibs call, not Obi's. Two seasons ago Obi started to close out the year. Was given Randle's role. Played like a starter.

Started this past season with the same role he had as a rookie, stand in the corner, create from the corner. As soon as Obi started again, had more room to operate, he went back to looking like a starter. A real threat.

I dont want the FO to trade Obi for a draft pick unless the FO and the head coach are on the same page. I dont believe they were when it came to Obi.

Obi just stand in the corner. Don't move.

I can almost believe that.

Agree. We saw the same thing with Cam. I'm not saying Obi is at the same level as Cam, but both guys obviously don't fit the vision Thibs had. I think I Obi's case, the plan was to trade Randle and do a reset. The team jumped the developmental timeline and Obi was left in no man's land. At this point, I'd rather see Obi go for some value. It'd be cool if he was thrown in a package for a quality starter, but I'll take the pick. It's hard to build value when you're only giving a guy 10 minutes a game.
Chandler @ 6/21/2023 12:37 PM
Obi for Okoro -- redraft? i say this half in jest

I really like Obi's energy but i don't see him as a puzzle piece. First i think he plays soft. He was supposed to attack the rim but it seems the only time he does that is when there's no one in the vicinity (leak outs, wide open back cuts). Rebounding and tenacity are subpar

He gets credit for developing his outside game but deserves criticism for his lack luster defense and general wuss-factor.

I don't mind a guy who can stand in the corner and nail three pointers, but they need to do it consistently and in the clutch and I'd prefer that from a 2 or 3

the issue with Obi isn't his outside shooting. It's that he's not delivering in other important areas that a PF needs to deliver on

It does seem like the offensive play style combined with the limited role as Obi did play very differently (and moved more) when he started. With JR as the focal point - we mostly play iso-heavy and slow paced. RJ struggled as well because he stinks at standing by the 3 pt line waiting for the kickout (just not playing to his strengths). When JR was not playing or focal point - ball moved more and Obi runs around like a decaptitated chicken.

So I do believe it's harder to fit around Randle if you're not an excellent outside shooter. Obi started strong from outside but leveled off as season progressed. Ultimately it's the wrong offense for him as he will probably perform better out West or in any uptempo style.

Knicks’ Obi Toppin contract extension: How much will it take?

Frustrations arose with the New York Knicks’ season on the brink.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau had benched Obi Toppin for the third and fourth quarters of a Game 4 loss in the team’s second-round NBA playoff matchup against the Miami Heat. The result handed New York a 3-1 series deficit, one loss short of elimination. Meanwhile, the decision not to play Toppin led to an out-of-character moment for the usually mild-mannered power forward.

According to league sources who were present, once the final buzzer sounded Toppin aired his grievances to Thibodeau. The 24-year-old wants to play, and he wants to win. That evening, neither happened. An intense verbal altercation occurred between the player and coach as the group trekked to the Kaseya Center visiting locker room in Miami. It spilled into the postgame meeting once the doors closed.

The Knicks drafted Toppin eighth overall three years ago, but they haven’t treated him like a mid-lottery pick since. The team’s starting power forward, Julius Randle, has leaped into the All-NBA stratosphere over that time, which has left Toppin stuck on the bench more often than the organization figured he would be when it selected him while he was fresh off an NCAA national player of the year award.

On this occasion, as Toppin yelled at Thibodeau in front of teammates so fresh off a loss that they were still in uniform, assistant coach Rick Brunson stepped in to stand up for his boss. Toppin and Brunson got into it for a moment. Randle, Evan Fournier and Josh Hart next pulled Toppin aside to cool him off.

would love to see this fire from Obi on the court. I love his energy with his teammates and applaud his effort to develop an outside shot but he has no presence in the paint, never asserts himself
