imagine combining Brunson and Randle's salaries to pay Beal

I cannot. Won't lose sleep either on it.
Saw KP opted in. No surprise there.

Say no to Beal, KAT, Levine.

Small additions is all we need right now until the right player is available.

Super max contract and not an All Star anymore, let the Hornets make the trade.

jamp @ 6/14/2023 4:28 PM
I agree. He'll no to any of these overpaid guys.
I would rather have done the Mitchell trade last year.
jamp @ 6/14/2023 4:33 PM
Plus we have a burgeoning star in Quickly.

Do we need to start another "trade for KP' thread? If Beal is gone, I gotta think KP is next. Also wonder what this means for Kuzma.

mattshaw78 @ 6/14/2023 5:22 PM
Not only that, it is because he has a bloated contract and his no trade clause carries over to his new team
Philc1 @ 6/14/2023 6:07 PM
Pass
HofstraBBall @ 6/14/2023 7:00 PM
Has always seemed to be a selfish player just interested in personal stats.
Maybe never in right situation but maybe it's just him?
Hefty Price tag.
Knixkik @ 6/14/2023 7:32 PM
If Beal comes cheap then sure. He’s a top 25 player when healthy. He brings shot creation and shooting. He replaces Barrett and the Knicks are a better team. Can’t overthink it. But like anything it comes down to price.
KnickDanger @ 6/14/2023 7:39 PM
With that contract there is no possible way he "comes cheap."

Top 25? I don't even have him above Jamal Murray, right now. Not too crap on him, but that would be a lot of money to tack on.

Maybe not but when he’s at his best he’s an allstar. That’s top 25 to me. But maybe he’s a step below that now. Still it’s not like trading for McCollum or someone like that. Beal is still really good. He would be an appropriate 2nd or 3rd option here.

The contract is to the Knicks advantage because it’s too expensive for most teams and includes a NTC which limits his suitors. Players like him still don’t come cheap as far as assets. The contract is crazy but all players of his caliber will be making that money within 2-3 years.

Jeremy Cohen on the Knicks Film School discussed the ramifications on the team under the new CBA if they acquired him. The team would be hamstrung for years. Not in our advantage at all

That contract eats 35 and 37% of the cap in those last two years.
Superstars alone in the new era need young and cap friendly support and that window gets closed when they want to get paid. New era is coming. Coaches and FO that produce will get paid. Starphuching will be a killer if you don’t nail it.

Not to mention that is for a player that has yet to play over 60 games in any of last 4 years.
He also likes his shots. Typically 20+

I listened to that. He’s really good. He explained there are plenty of ways around it though.

Stars will face significant restraints if they all try to move to the same team. I personally think there should be some relief for teams built on players they drafted, like the warriors, Celtics, and Denver vs. teams that have signed guys in free agency or acquired them via trades. Not really sure where a guy like Middleton would fit.

Last time a guy with an NTC got traded was Melo and OKC paid far less because of it. I think. I think that Beal still has a lot of leverage. If he refuses a trade it will force the new front office to stay competitive. Good for the Knicks. It's stupid to tank multiple seasons because of having a protects pick possibly going to another team.

shinmen @ 6/15/2023 1:17 AM
50 millions a year for an injury prone, 23pts scorer who plays no defense and we would need to give assets for him. No thanks.
