Knicks · The more I think about it. The more its time for the prodigal son to return. (page 1)

Trade to bring KP back to NY.

Especially if we are moving forward with Randle, which seems like that path we are headed. Then it makes the most sense to make this move. Randle and KP play styles on paper seem to compliment each other. KP the floor spacing/shot blocking big & Randle the bully in the post.

Obi, Hartenstein, Fournier to Wizards for KP. I think is a good deal for both sides. Frontcourt rotation of Randle, KP, Mitch I see working very well for Thibs.

KP is also a nice fit with rotational guys like Hart and RJ when lineups get formed. And he already has a lot of experience with our franchise player Brunson of course. That oversized frontcourt can also somewhat cover for our undersized wing rotation. Though would love to complete the cypher with a quality 3/4 for the rotation.

Its a worthy gamble if that's a price Wiz are comfy with.

I thought this was gonna be a Tim Hardaway Jr thread
nyvector16 @ 6/21/2023 9:47 AM
The only way this works is if KP plays SF, and he will have a hard time on defense with most SFs in the league.
This would require team play zone defense going forward and put a lot more pressure on Mitch to clog up the paint.
This would require RJ moving to SG, which I am actually for since I think he is getting screwed at SF like Sprewell was before.

There are too many unknown s and too many "accommodations" that would be required in order to make it work.
Then once KP gets injured everyone has to learn to play the other way until he returns...
This is too disruptive...

I haven't watched KP in a long time. He can't play C?

They would also want their pick back? Still do it?

Kp is better than when he left would be great at center here i have no hard feelings i mean who cares if we could get him that would be awesome

He def is more of a center today than he has ever been in his career. Had one of his better seasons last yr. Problem with him remains the same though. Which is his durability. But that trio of Randle/KP/Mitch can smooth over mins and rest for each.

He's been a much better passer with the Wiz. Which is one of the reasons why I'm in favor of this move.

Mitch talks a good game when it comes to getting buckets. We know its more than talk with KP.

Yes, but then imo they should sweeten the pot a little more with a 2nd or 2.

blkexec @ 6/21/2023 10:29 AM
I thought this was about Burks. Bringing him back is what this team needs off the bench.
fishmike @ 6/21/2023 10:30 AM
what's the deal? KP has one year last (he opted in)

Mitch/Fournier and 2nd rounders its a go. IHart/Sims are good depth at the 5. KP is an impact player and he would be complimentary player and not the #1.

KP is a perfect fit for our offense. If we got what he gave Wash last year it really takes the Knicks up a notch

Spreading out the offense would be a big plus. Harder to game plan.

Chandler @ 6/21/2023 10:40 AM
he is no better at defense on the perimeter.

KP is intriguing but unless we have an answer to the above, I'd pass

Even if KP can play C, this still leaves Randle or Mitch to be exploited on defense by quicker and nimbler swingmen out on the perimeter.

And a slimmed-down Randle loses much of his effectiveness, as we saw in 2021/22.

I honestly think that all we need to be a contender is a 6'8-6'9 guy with a reliable 3 pointer and good defense. Plus Mitch learning a couple of reliable shots 3-4 ft away from the basket, and RJ learning to create his own shot off the dribble.

Def don't see KP as the best solution to our shortcomings, especially with his price tag and injury risks.

martin wrote:I haven't watched KP in a long time. He can't play C?

This is a good question.
I think it could work with KP at Center and Randle at 4, but I am not sure how KP and Obi would look like on defense.

That's a high bar to set IMHO. Most all centers in the league have trouble on the perimeter.

Most all centers also don't shoot above 35% from 3point land.

Yeah, in this scenario Obi is traded away anyway. And that's where the Knicks definitely could use a backup 4 or someone like Naz Reid or a draftee.

KnickDanger @ 6/21/2023 11:25 AM
Funny how some want a guy making 36 million and can’t be consistently on the court and many can’t wait to get rid of a guy making about 8 million less and plays hurt. But I guess a “thumbs down” is more triggering than forcing a trade.
