Edey potential to gain the handle, footwork, and face foward midrange that Yao had is what one has to see to say that. I don’t know. Yao Mings career was a lot shorter than most recall. He only played 4 full 82,82,80,77. There were 3 years 48, 55,57 games. He played 7 seasons. Ages 22-28. Had to sit a full year, then played just 5 the next and was done by age 30. Total career 486 games. All star every year.

Edy obvious size was his biggest weapon in college. To compare he is only 2 inches shorter but he has a way to regarding the overall skill set Yao demonstrated in his career. Im not saying he can or can’t. If scouts think he has this potential you for sure draft him and develop if he fell to us. Given its unlikely we bring back both our centers for monetary reasons this could be one avenue was take. If he is a higher pick,, maybe we do something to move up. How far? I can’t say.

If he was drafted with the purpose of being a 20min per game backup big. Would that be the most effective route for him extending his career?

You talking about extending Mitch or Edey's career?
there are some things about Ming that one needs to understand, he was a child born in 1980 to parents that both played pro basketball. Father was 6'7 and Mother 6'3. Ming is 7'6. I have seen him play in person vs shaq whose girth/head/size makes most men look tiny. It was not Shaq's height, his sheer volume was incredible later in his career. Ming was huge next to shaq.

There is a rumor that his parents were an arranged marriage by the state and he was given growth hormones to boster his size. Just a rumor I read. Nothing was concrete.
Given his birth in 1980 and they did weird shit behind the Communist curtain then its not outrageous China did this kind of thing. Again, Im only going by a theory. Some of which was based on his proportions and his head was huge even for a man of that size!

Obviously he was not the only tall player to suffer from foot injuries so thats not the tell all. Bill Walton's body at seven feet could not handle it as he filled out.
Many others also. Perhaps this is Mitch as well.

If we talking Edey, one might hope his body type which is thick at an early age is "designed" to handle what he intends to do to it in the coming years. Edey is a big dude who has had to slim down. Most players are rail thin and issue with feet can occur when they bulk up and hit that "man strength!".

Does Mitch and #25 get us into lottery? Or also add in a few 2nds - not clear on cost to move up 10-12 spots.

I mean if they really love a kid —- we have assets to go and move up?

LivingLegend @ 6/6/2024 2:33 PM
Does Edey have a jump shot from post?

I know he has his hook shot over left shoulder but does he have any counter move (jump) shot over his right shoulder?

I guess offense wouldn’t be primary concern with him but if he had some N Vucevic moves in post that helps.

That’s elite, 2-way level posting right there

Deep into Euro stash territory

Looked up some scouting reports and they all mention his defensive potential. Also said his three point shot is streaky. IHart with less playmaking and better 3? Hope they sign him to a two-way so we can find out.

the exact kind of player we should draft- someone who can help right away, who you don't ask a lot to do besides defend, rebound and hit the occasional 3 when the ball is swung around.

We have plenty of small dynamos- need size

VDesai @ 6/7/2024 9:51 AM
I'm coming around to Dunn. A guy who offers nothing offensively can be a really tough thing to game plan around, but if he more or less can approximate the OG defensive impact, that's something that's important to have when you have to plan for that likelihood OG is gonna be likely be gone for 30 games. Even if we're lucky and OG stays healthy - we know Thibs like to put guys on the floor for situational spurts just to have that lengthy defense out there. This guy can guard the inbounds pass or provide length against a wing scorer, or additional roaming rim protection. Put him in the gym with Miles McBride and make him copy whatever he did to become a deadeye shooter and hope that he can at least get efficient from the corners. Herb Jones has made major strides in 3 yrs so maybe this kid can too.
martin @ 6/7/2024 11:23 AM
Anyone know the back story to Dunn? He would be a junior next year but he is also already 21.5yo.

Thats a long time to not have learned to even get past Mitch territory for FT shooting %

Jalen Duren lite. I could see the Knicks taking this kid with one of the picks

Like Devin Carter, I am pretty sure this guy is gone before we get to pick. Started in our range way back, but his combine was solid and I could see him being picked top 15 lottery.

VDesai @ 6/7/2024 4:22 PM
I think 15-30 you could literally put these guys in any order and it might not be surprising. I think Missi makes sense for the Knicks and could replace Sims/Precious right away, and probably needs a year or two of polish before he becomes a rotation big or someone who would allow you trade Mitch.

There's a guy in the 2nd round range - Adem Bona, who is very raw, but has that Sims jump off the charts athleticism.

Im debating in my mind Klintman vs. Ryan Dunn. Dunn is NBA ready defense and massive potential defense impact, but may end up being nothing at all on offense. Klintman seems to have the tools on both ends, but nothing stands out about his skills now, but he's young.

Kevin McCullar Jr. isn't getting love, but I think he's ready to go in a rotation and contribute next year. Feels like a Miami Heat guy.

Everyone is mocking Tyler Kolek to the Knicks. Payton Prichard clone?

I think the one thing I'll put money on is we won't be making picks 24, 25 and 38. We'll be wheeling and dealing.

If the Knicks keep both first round picks I can definitely see grabbing a center (Ware, Holmes or Missi) and then grabbing Dunn. I know Kolek is being mocked to the Knicks a ton but I see them going after a backup guard via trade and/ or bringing over Jokubaitis. Just makes more sense to bring in a development center and then Dunn as an elite defensive prospect to add. Knicks can always use the size and athleticism on the wing.

His combine measurements are very very close to Mitch measurements at his combine.

Missi is ~1" shorter in height, wingspan and standing reach but he's actually 6 lbs heavier than Mitch was.

He’s a great prospect. His skillset makes perfect sense. The only thing is does Thibs want to draft a 1 and done. The Knicks only 1 and done was Trevor Keels.

Seems to have a ton more natural basketball awareness than Mitch too

he's not going to be there unless we move up.

Several teams linked to Mitch have earlier picks. Plus we need to trim payroll.

Watching some clips of K Ware and dare I say his body type, mannerisms and movement remind me of…………young Abdul Jabbar.

Not saying he’s Jabbar but that’s who his body and movement —- even the way he fights for post up and moves for his shot. Interesting player and think I read somewhere some teams have him in top 10.

In the Indiana Uni, looks more like Jared Jeffries than young "Alcindor".
Interesting? Perhaps your right.
His foot speed is for sure faster than young Kareem. The slim build is similar.

Still is amazing that no player really has tried to replicate the Sky hook! So dominant a weapon. I was looking for Ware getting the ball low post and seeing what he looked like. I did not see perhaps what you saw. Kareem would set up for the sky hook or a face up jumper shot. Also he could pass. Different game and era of Course.
