Knicks · ESPN Going All In To Make Their NBA Broadcast Even Worse (page 2)

I didn’t like either but Surprised they kept Jackson and let go of JVG.

Also surprised they let Jalen go…..but kept Perkins???

I like JJ and think Richard Jefferson gets better every time. Plus, he brings humor

JJ is great.

RJ... it's like he knows he's a complete dick, and he's leaning into it. I agree, he is less worse over time.

If Hubie is on the ESPN payroll, I hope they keep him. Dude should call games as long as he's breathing.

Perk is annoying, but usually less so when discussing the Knicks.

Wish we all could be too LOL

Beth Mowins has to be my least favorite play by play announcer. Monica McNut least favorite tv personality and yet they both still have a job

Perk is a more interesting broadcaster. He’s not afraid to be honest

Hubie is 89. He’s entering Phil Rizzuto old man announcer territory

Dick Vitale is still pretty sharp and entertaining during boring no rivalry college ball

ESPN is likely seeing the writing on the wall and knows they will get outbid during the next round of broadcast rights so rather than keep a big pay role, they are exiting the game early.
Nalod @ 7/2/2023 8:43 AM
The cable bundles that include ESPN are fewer each year and ESPN is losing access.
Stream only viewers have to pay for it.
At the same time NBA league pass seemingly does not raise its prices. On my Youtube TV it records the game automatically and does a great job. When I used the NBA league pass App it was filled with issues.

It also helps that ESPN didn’t lay off anyone actually worth watching.

good point. Don't know if some were offered reduced deals or they looking to promote others to more prominent roles that are good. JJ Reddick moved up rather quickly. He polished his act and pehraps has a good run. same with Perkins. JVG act got stale. Contractually Mark Jax might have a guaranteed deal still?

I think the problem is Disney, a publicly traded company, is bleeding money. Does anybody even care if there is another superhero movie? Their decision to go woke hasn’t helped their bottom line either

When has it ever?

This system is not designed for people who are woke. It rest on the backs of sleep walkers who follow the status quo.

I'm sure these layoffs are more than anything thats been mentioned in this thread. There's so much data and recordings on these guys. Plus ESPN has enough bank to lay everybody off and rehire the next day without blinking.

There’s a thousand unemployed ex jocks and broadcasters 10x smarter than Max Kellerman willing to work for 20% of his annual salary

Not sure if Disney really "went Woke". This is a big company and many employees want to know were their company stands on things.
What did they do? they pushed back on the "don't say gay" in florida. Basically did the "all men are created equal".

Desantis is dividing his state to pander to a radical constituency to gain votes. Pretty much he his presidential slogan be like "Make america Florida".
Does it get him elected? I hope not. Nalod not Woke but piling on a minority no matter how small is bullying.
He is pretty transparent in his intentions and is out Trumping Trump racing to the bottom.
This "radical Liberal" name calling is ignorant. No, not all issues are black and white but the divide deepens when we choose leaders based on such things.
Im moderate in the majority of views. States need to stayout of peoples bodies, bedrooms and not use government to be vindictive. Desantis crossed the line with Disney and curriculum in schools. Denying history to make some people feel better is not moving society forward.
We did some bad things in our history. We need to own it and move forward.
Financial reparations on a wide scale is not very practical. But to ignore things is ignorant.

ESPN has been losing money way before it spoke about "Don't say Gay".

I'm just reading about this a little now. So Disneys's CEO went on record at a shareholder meeting about their position wanting to teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students about sexual orientation and gender identity. Disney has a huge media outreach. I guess they also started introducing trans gender and gay characters and sexual orientation in their content which targets young audiences. So the result is that parents have stopped subscribing to streaming services or going to movies and visiting theme parks? my kids are grown and no grand kids yet so I don't follow it at all.

I'll only speak to the kids I interact with here in NY and all these things seem second nature and completely accepting to them. Each next generation seems to be that way.
