Im moderate in the majority of views. States need to stayout of peoples bodies, bedrooms and not use government to be vindictive. Desantis crossed the line with Disney and curriculum in schools. Denying history to make some people feel better is not moving society forward.
We did some bad things in our history. We need to own it and move forward.
Financial reparations on a wide scale is not very practical. But to ignore things is ignorant.

ESPN has been losing money way before it spoke about "Don't say Gay".

I'm just reading about this a little now. So Disneys's CEO went on record at a shareholder meeting about their position wanting to teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students about sexual orientation and gender identity. Disney has a huge media outreach. I guess they also started introducing trans gender and gay characters and sexual orientation in their content which targets young audiences. So the result is that parents have stopped subscribing to streaming services or going to movies and visiting theme parks? my kids are grown and no grand kids yet so I don't follow it at all.

I'll only speak to the kids I interact with here in NY and all these things seem second nature and completely accepting to them. Each next generation seems to be that way.

I'm not going to hate on parents who want to keep their kids innocent for as long as possible. When mine were young, they weren't allowed to watch PG or PG-13. If I had to do it again, I would still keep sexual content off limits until they are old enough. In my mind, that is still junior high school. Maybe times have changed, but I haven't

I think the problem is Disney, a publicly traded company, is bleeding money. Does anybody even care if there is another superhero movie? Their decision to go woke hasn’t helped their bottom line either

When has it ever?

This system is not designed for people who are woke. It rest on the backs of sleep walkers who follow the status quo.

So I just watched this clip on IG and I absolutely loved it. I respect Disney for broadcasting these messages and teaching our youths about how our history impacts current events.

And since you asked the question who would care if there’s another superhero movie?

The entire world needs and should care. It’s important to teach the kids how we got here. If you don’t know your past you will eventually repeat it.

You also mentioned the word “woke”. Thank you for that. This allows me to share a little knowledge on this word since the Republican Party is starting to weaponize the word while trying to erase “American history” from the school system.

“When we break down who actually identifies with the term “woke” in the YouGov survey, it becomes clearer why the racial implications are unmistakable. Nearly 40% of Black Americans identify somewhat with the label, more than double the percentage of white Americans (19%)”

That line of thinking is why we have the highest level of income inequality since the 19th century.

As for "Woke", many people conflate the civil rights movement with the politicians, and corporations who seek to exploit it for power or $$$.

Just because the movement has been co-opted by powerful interests, doesnt make its goals any less valid. Sure makes it easy to de-legitimize the movement though.

I don't have an instagram account so I can't read that link and you can't rely on CNN having a balanced un-biased op-ed so I didn't read that either. If you want to go down that rabbit hole then I will give you this. There is no place for sexual education in the 1st, 2nd or third grades in a public school. However, if that is your choice I hope there are other options out there for you. There are tons of educational things you can pay to do with you toddlers and adolescents. Perhaps instead of Mommy and Me play space, You can start a Non Gender Person and Me play space and educate willing and paying customers as you see fit.

Can you clarify what you mean by "There is no place for sexual education in the 1st, 2nd or third grades in a public school" as it refers to what Disney is doing? That is where your argument started, that Disney is introducing something in their content and then it suddenly and somehow jumped to public schools.

You are conflating a lot of different things and it seems to be coming out incorrectly. I am not familiar what ALL 1-3 grade schools are doing but it seems far off from what you are saying.

Also, could you clarify, very specifically, what you mean by "So Disney's CEO went on record at a shareholder meeting about their position wanting to teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students about sexual orientation and gender identity." That is your characterization of what Disney is purported to say.

What did Disney CEO actually say and what are they actually doing in their content that would have parents stopping subscription streams?

Just do a Google search about Disney and Ron Desantis. It starts with the Desantis Parental Rights in Education Bill that is referred to by opponents as the don't say gay bill.

"Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards."

The "Don't Say Gay" moniker comes from critics of the measure who blast this idea and insist this policy will hurt LGBTQ children.

You can get all of Bob Iger's remarks as they are all public record. I would suggest reading for yourself. He has remarked extensively on the subject as it is a frequent topic at shareholder meetings from what I have read.

Finally here is what I mean about 'Public Schools'. Public Schools are Publicly funded by the taxpayer, ALL of the taxpayers. Therefore, all of the taxpayers can voice opposition or support of any curriculum that they encourage or feel controversial. In this case the voting public spoke and legislators responded. In a Private school, you are not governed by the same rules. You can be as controversial or ground breaking as you want. Parents can choose if your teaching philosophy matches their parental values. It's a 'choice'. In a public school kids don't have that choice. Their parents can't decide to remove their kids and enroll them in a private school if they can't afford it. Therefore, Public Schools should steer clear of controversial curriculum.

If I was being brief 'conflating' it was because I wasn't trying to get to deep into this as it isn't going to turn out well.

Nearly 40% of Black Americans identify somewhat with the label, more than double the percentage of white Americans (19%)”

https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/10/us/woke-r...

Woke is the new buzz word for conservatives. It used to be Antifa, communist, liberal, feminist, and still is globalist, and is up their with Illuminati in their nebulous imagination. Every few years new word to depersonalization of the opposition.

Woke means you think gay people should have equal rights and cops shouldn’t be able to do anything they want to poor people. This is also the definition of “groomer”

That's not what it means. Woke isn't just about gays. It's about the fact that you recognize the societal forces that mold different outcomes for different groups of people.

ESPN treats Stephen A the way Thibs treated Jimmy Butler in the playoffs.

Too much fear/respect for someone whose game isn't deserving of it.

I don't watch too much ESPN these days, but would have preferred keeping a few like JVG/Jalen Rose/Max K

I’ve never been a big Stephen A guy I agree with a lot of the sentiment about him but he has been right about college quarterbacks last few years. One of the few guys in the media who thought Baker Mayfield and Zach Wilson were going to bust when everyone else was head over heels

ESPN is closing in on promoting Doris Burke to the NBA Finals, hiring Doc Rivers to join her and jettisoning Mark Jackson to the “B” team or off the network, The Post has learned. In the wake of Jeff Van Gundy’s firing in late June, ESPN set their eyes on making Burke the first woman TV analyst on the NBA Finals and hiring Rivers to join Hall of Fame play-by-player, Mike Breen. – via Andrew Marchand @ New York Post

Sources said Jackson could stay on and join play-by-player Mark Jones on the network’s second team. If he balks at that option, he could be headed out of ESPN. – via Andrew Marchand @ New York Post

Van Gundy was a victim of ESPN’s talent layoffs. While Van Gundy was one of the best game analysts in sports, top ESPN executives were wary of his desire to coach again. Van Gundy was also critical of the NBA and its officiating, which the NBA has expressed disappointment at over the years and even this season, according to sources. However, there is no evidence of an edict from the NBA to make a change. – via Andrew Marchand @ New York Post

It’s a low bar

Doris has the worst voice. If you ever suffer from too much joy or feel too horny just listen to that voice, yuck
Nalod @ 7/31/2023 10:28 PM
Rather listen to her than Mark Jax.
If she is calling a Knick game, she is tolerable as long as Knicks win or its a tight game.
Then im focused on the game.
