Knicks · What do you think the Knicks plan is for Donovan Mitchell? (page 3)

Nalod @ 7/26/2023 9:04 AM
Of course he is not going any where but its an upgrade. You tighten up Grimes just a bit and pair with DM and you don’t have size issues.

Be real, DM>JB. Im thrilled with JB, but reality is they won’t put Him with Garland so its moot.
But, if they move Garland and want to move DM well then, the clock is ticking.

Get over yourselves, We traded Clyde to Cleveland. Shit happens.
No worries, im not on Leons speed dial!

We can trade for Mitchell next February and the package wouldn’t be as big as what we offered Danny Ainge for him. We would not have to trade Brunson for him and yes Mitchell and Brunson starting together in the same backcourt would work and possibly be the nba’s most explosive offensive backcourt

Get Mitchell.

KNicks not the only team that BTW. Nets would factor as might a few others that DM would agree to extend to.
He can play hardball, but gamble on his health if he wants total freedom. Thats on him.
Few players go that route.

Can't draw too many conclusions from one playoff series. Some of the greatest teams have gotten the breaks beat off them before in a series. It happens.

I think CLE's inability to find a competent "3" and their bigs getting dominated by Mitch was their biggest weakness throughout the series.

I think having the leagues top D all season long proves it can work, more than getting smoked in 5 game series proves it can't.

Agree. It can work in the regular season alright. While failing horribly in the playoffs. We didn't just beat a better team by hustling and coaching( like the Heat does) we just overwhelmed them( almost swept) Next season we have all the components needed to go farther in the playoffs than Clev again. While they could have the better record in regular season, again

I wouldn't be shocked to see CLE make a deep playoff run next year. Most of the time these things don't carry over year to year. I watched Dirk's Mavs get embarrassed a few times in the playoffs before winning the chip. Spurs lost to an 8 seed as a 60 win 1 seed before they put together a 3 year run with 2 finals appearances and a title. Miami superfriends even got "exposed" a couple times.

CLE got smoked but I don't think it was because of some deep inherent flaws that will doom them going forward. It won't matter because Mitchell is leaving though.

you think Clev makes a deep playoff run DM will want out or will he extend? I think Clev needs to see where LeVert and Strus will help. I always thought LeVert had some nice tools, shows flashes at times. Both are signed to close the same contract at 15m est locked for 2 and 4 years. Mobley will need his extension, so i'm thinking Clev has to hope this team makes a deep run.

I think they are missing (no longer on the roster) Osman and Love, replaced with Strus, should be interesting. No idea about how Rubio will be and role?

DM is All NBA. Bonafide.

OG is not.
Would I trade RJ as part of a bonafide improvement at the 3? Yes. OG is not that. He is very good.

Knicks ranked 11th on offense last season. 13th on Defense.
"Thibs is a defensive coach".......
Maybe true. But last year they upped the pace even more. I'd like to see a full season of Jhart and Playoff RJ.

I'd gather that some All NBA team designations are just not the same?

OG was second team All NBA Defense this past year. I can get being a fanboy but you are making a gigantic stretch and the distance between fanboy and flat denial is tight.

RJ has a legit fanboy's worth of potential still left to fulfill. I think everyone wants him to succeed at a high level.

I don't quite understand how when comparing 2 players, while one has a very recent all nba team designation, that designation just does not qualify as something meaningful.

LOL,
Nothing as I delirious in need of sleep.
I'm not making my self clear.

I'm not going to convince anyone that we should trade Brunson.
and If Clev has Garland, there is not incentive there unless we pay up big beyond Brunson.
Not recommending that.
Say there was three way. Brunson, and two picks. One of ours, one of the dallas or Wash. I do that. DM is better.
Don't agree with me? Thats cool.
none of this shit is gonna happen anyway.

Why bring up RJ and OG? Its summer. I want to see thing thing with RJ play out with him as a Knick. Given our depth at small guard, I offer IQ to Toronto as the core piece for OG. I now there would be more than IQ sent. Im more vested in RJ than IQ. I like all my knicks. Move RJ to the 2 and OG to play the 3. Grimes off the bench for a year or two will get him plenty of time.

With Donte our back court is crowded. Logical that IQ is traded. Not saying I want him gone.

stillafan @ 7/26/2023 4:51 PM
the thought of OG traded here is pretty exciting to me. when you have Jalen, Randle I just feel having an OG just makes them better. The guy can shoot, which we need, and he has had 4 straight seasons of All defensive voting shares, winning 2nd all league just last season.

I agree with some there is nothing like homegrown, but sometimes a player never reaches the potential that was set upon him. Of Course the price has to be right, trade wise and his salary.
I think it's a nice problem to have if a superstar becomes available. OG also fits the minutes at backup PF just fine.

OG is younger than Jalen almost a year, not worried about any age differential if we lose RJ for him.

Now I hope RJ proves me and anyone else wrong that would do the trade.

His body language in the playoff series facing us didnt look good. He was trying to escape Salt Lake City and went to a similarly small market that was almost as lame. The Cavs not even making it a competitive series was the icing on the cake.
