Easily one of the more forgotten players in Knicks history (maybe for good reason.) Anderson was the most league average player of 20 years ago. He was a 6’6 wing who spent about half his time at SG and half at SF. A true wing or swingman as they were called then. He started about a third of his career games and played about half a game for his career (23 mpg). He shot league average from the field and was always in an nba rotation. Mostly was a 7th-8th man. By all of the standard measures, he was literally the most average nba player of that time. He wasn’t a 3pt shooter but had seasons he could make them. Obviously the average nba player of that time wasn’t a 3pt shooter on a regular basis. So does this most average nba player from yesteryear have a place in today’s league or not ?
He would get more then Dillon Brooks got paid today.
I just remember the contract. That and Eisley's. Layden taking on that contract, his roster decisions because of his Utah connection, puts him in the Knicks GM hall of shame. Worst time for me to be a Knicks fan. And the franchise has had its share of rough patches. Why I dont like to see a GM go too far on that route. Hasnt really worked for us in the past.
Edit: "Worst time" includes the Isiah years as well.

Agree with Scott Layden.
I disagree with Isiah. Yes he had his court issues and things outside of work. But I thought his eye for talent was good, especially wing players. But with Leon has that others didn't have or refuse to use it, thats Patients. This is what I respect about Leon. IT APPEARS he moves to his own drum, regardless of any outside or inside noise.

Isiah had an eye for talent. But his ego surpassed his ability as an exec. He left the Raptors in shambles, bankrupted the CBA. Isiah's ability to get in Dolan's ear was nothing but bad news for the franchise. Last but not least, the toxic work environment he created.
Thomas is a HOFer, one of the all time greats, but you dont get left off the "Dream Team" for being a class act. Dont believe it was just Jordan who didnt want him on the squad.
He couldn't hit a 3 consistently, so he'd either be the same or somewhere lower than that in today's NBA. He could run and defend though, so I think he'd stick.

Defensive specialist off the bench. Anderson was doable as a starter with Stockton and Malone carrying most of the weight.
Shandon Anderson - not the worst name you could bring up but definitely triggers the pain center. A lot of names like that unfortunately- nearly two decades worth.

Layden was just as bad if not worse than Isiah. Isiah just had more time to ruin the franchise.
Shandon and Eisley were thought to have been able to take the next step.
One might look at the Utah team they played on instead of looking back 20 odd years and painting broad strikes in the after math.
They did not take the next step up. Had they it would have been great. They did not suck, they just did not fill the role as hoped.
So many bad things went wrong in that era its mind-boggling.
Layden era started when JVG got extended and while that team made finals Camby fell apart emotionally, H20 Knee’s started getting balky and Dolan (kept his promise to pay him) when he opted out. Spree honeymoon was over and the next year team exited early. JVG left for a reason.
Was all of this “Laydens fault”. Of course he gets some blame.
Then, there was the Ewing trade. A trade that went bad for EVERYONE!!!!
And there was Dolan flirting with Vince Baker and demanding a starphuch to fill the sleepy MSG and enter Dyce.
So many things went wrong. Dice was amazing and it was his good knee that blew out!

Knicks sucked in part letting bad contracts expire and not trading picks as they did.
Rumored Layden was very much against the Marbury trade. It was on his desk. It was the first thing Isiah did. Remember, Dolan wanted Magic Johnson to run knicks. That was a bad idea too, Magic said no and recommended ISiah who was run out of toronto and fucked over the Continental Basketball League and its owners.
Layden sucked for many reasons but there is context. Isiah was on two contracts and at one time knicks cap was 40% higher than the number two team Blazers.

88/89 Wilkens. He had a great career in his own right- and for a second rounder.
Rick Pitino and the bomb squad - years before MDA and the analytics that have teams shooting 30+ 3pters in a game.

I was so hopeful Riley would play Christie and he went elsewhere and did great. Don't think Obi leaves and has that much of an effect.
