As long as we're realistic about what "it" is, I agree. He's definitely capable of filling the 12-15 mpg backup role, although I'd like to see Sims get some consideration. If he's OK without guaranteed minutes (wasn't that why he left for Washington?), bring him back!
I think losing DRose's presence in the locker room is a bigger hit than we've acknowledged. Taj's leadership would be very much welcomed.
The thing I like about Jericho Sims is his footwork. He closes out and stays in front of his man incredibly well for a big man. With IQ, DDV, jHart and iHart next to him, I think he is a fine candidate for 15 mins per game. I like his pairing with iHart a lot.

Would love to see Jericho get the job. Can he just score cause if he can't keep the defense honest the opponent will scheme for him not being a threat and that will punish the other four Knicks on the floor. Yet, no rush, they can trade for PF or still sign one if needed. Plus draft one next season.
I mean, he can fly. So with IQ, DDV, Hart and Hart you have 4 solid passers next to him. If you don’t keep a body in front of him you get a highlight reel dunk. 6’10 with a 44” vertical? Can’t shoot a lick but I mean, neither can Robinson.
Well if Heart can shoot the 3 at a decent clip then Jericho can take up the dunking role, but it would be great if he could hit a shot from 10-15 ft
Sims one main weakness that hurts his PF potential is guarding the 3 pt shooters. He sags like a typical center and doesn’t look comfortable guarding near 3 pt line. But if he’s guarding a PF slasher or any slasher without a pull-up, he’s one of the best centers with great lateral quickness.
But guarding that 3 as a big man is more on Kevin garnet or yannus level and that’s not sims (yet) as far as his defensive agility. But playing next to a center I can see him learning to trust his quickness and guard the 3 pt line. He’s closer to Randles height than Mitch so he can develop that skill over time.
Todays PF is yesterdays SF. That’s why my prediction is thibs will use Hart and even RJ to guard some PFs. Then you mix and match sims depending on the PF matchups throughout the game. BUT This level of flexibility is what worries me the most with thibs.
Unless Sims learns how to do a lot more on offense I think he is exclusively a 5. Right now the DHO is the only thing that really separates him from Mitch offensively. I think he has real potential as a defensive 5 in a pressuring switch heavy defense but I don’t think we will ever see Thibs play that type of defense. I like Sims but I don’t think his role ever expands in NY unless he can improve in drop and at the rim. He’s a great 3rd string 5 though

The low flying PJ Tucker types are easier for Jhart and RJ, but height will matter at times.

Sims played next to iHart in spurts and did OK. That’s all he needs to do.
And he has shown the ability to guard out to the 3point line, I seem to recall him doing that against Durant for a hot minute.

Jericho and 4 shooters work. We will run teams off the court with lobs and screens.
