He’s obviously a great player but I’d hate to give up young promising talent and picks, in hopes that he stays healthy and somehow succeeds more in NY.

Philly, make us an offer we can’t refuse.

Well said. I am in this camp and i am an EMbiid fan.

I could make the case i'd rather lose Randle who is an all nba because i still think he has some challenges handling NY and the pressure in the playoffs.

Tobias Harris far better fit with Embid vs Randle who would be an absolute head case / disaster as 3rd wheel.

JesseDark @ 10/24/2023 3:44 PM
If we give up Randle, RJ, and Mitchell Robinson what would our starting five look like.
Jalen Brunson,Quinton Crimes,?,?, Embid.
MaTT4281 @ 10/24/2023 4:18 PM
LOL at "3 players out of RJ/Jules/Evan/Mitch". Philly demanding Fournier, right?! Presumably the offer is Evan plus 2 out of the 3...but in what world do we keep Mitch out of an Embiid trade?

JesseDark wrote:If we give up Randle, RJ, and Mitchell Robinson what would our starting five look like.

Brunson/Deuce*
IQ/DD
Grimes/DD
Hart/Sims*
Embiid/iHart

or

Brunson/IQ
Grimes/IQ
Fournier/DD
Hart/Sims*
Embiid/iHart

Either way, I think we'd see heavy reliance on a 3 guard + 3 big rotation. * guys getting spot minutes. Would be wild if a Knicks trade wound up opening up minutes for Fournier after all this.

Radio guys this AM seemed to think IQ not signing an extension + the report of what we'd offer for Embiid all pointed towards a trade for KAT (IQ obviously being a big piece, plus the other smoke to hint at what we're offering and remind Min we're looking at bigs). Not thrilled with the idea of KAT...probably would double down on Embiid at that point and pray for health.

If you did those 3 we would be sending out 20 million more in salary than we are getting back so there would have to be more coming to us. Harris is too much money. Maybe PJ Tucker and some end-of-the-bench types even it out

jaydh @ 10/24/2023 5:51 PM
You include Fournier and they include Harris.

MRob vs Embiid is only getting closer given Embiid expected decline in his 30’s.

But you can't trade Randle and RJ for MRob.

joec32033 @ 10/24/2023 11:10 PM
Weird. Figured it would be like

Randle
Mitch
Fournier
Quick
some picks

For Embiid and filler.

Side note:

Randle
Fournier
Barrett

for

Embiid
Harris

works on tradechecker.

I don’t see Philly trading him to us. We learned with the Lillard thing that teams don’t want to do that and give a player what they want if it’s only one team. I think we are far more likely to get either Towns or D Mitchell. Neither is as good but younger and more durable.
Moonangie @ 10/25/2023 12:45 PM
KAT in trade this year followed by Spida via Free Agency a possibility? That plus our core would be legit contention imho.

You might be right and Morey is a pimp likely ask too much.
But...........

I'm gonna guess its already being discussed. That don't mean anything gets done or for a while.
What your saying is "Its more likely Philly creates a market and bidding war for Embiid".

Leon might not give Morey what he wants, but he can give him a fair price, know the haggle is coming, then give it to him. Or, just give him a what Knicks are willing to pay, and say "Thats it, its good for x-amount of time, and thats it!"

Or Morey only wants to move Embiid for a "offer he can't refuse".

Embiid might or might not ask. He might or might not ask for NY specifically. Joel has no leverage.
Lillard was not the same thing. He did ask for Miami but we learned they did not meet the price and it just died. Two months later they did a deal with Bucks.
Knicks have the assets to make a good deal and compete. Morey knows this and Leon knows he knows. Nobody will be stealing Joel Embiid. Question is how bad do knicks want him and whats left to compete?

Week ago it was reported that Embiid was to sign with Sketchers. Hmmmm, So did Randle. Hmmmm, Do Philly games get televised in China due to Morey's past comments about them? What if Randle is traded to Philly?

We don't know what Morey would want.

Not for nothing but Knicks - if they indeed to have someone like Embiid as a target - need to also keep KAT as a target as well, to keep the leverage down on real target. Both guys gotta be in play to move things along.

Martin is right

we need strategery to quote a former president. we also need discipline. We were smart to not sell the farm for one guy the way many teams have done recently. Stay the course; be opportunistic; build a competitive, professional approach; cut your losses; avoid prima donnas. Repeat

Moonangie wrote:KAT in trade this year followed by Spida via Free Agency a possibility? That plus our core would be legit contention imho.

KAT / Spida and the Knicks current core - you may be able to get two of the 3 ...but not all.

KAT will be on a Super-Max contract at the following annual salaries. Ask yourself if he's worth being paid as one of the top guys in the league and resulting in the team being essentially hamstrung to surround him with players by going over the 2nd tax apron. Plus Minny will be looking for a bundle of future picks and young assets from the Knicks current core to bring him back.

2023/24 $36,016,200
2024/25 $52,150,000
2025/26 $56,322,000
2026/27 $60,494,000
2027/28 $64,666,000 (player option)

Donovan Mitchell has a player option after the 2024-25 Season in which he could make $37M. Based on his current trajectory it will be likely he will opt out to become a FA and seek a new agreement for over $50M+ per year. The timeline does not seem to work out since both Jalen Brunson and Randle also has an opt outs for 2024-25 and will likely exercise them since they are playing above current salaries. Both will likely be seeking higher salaries as FAs or via extensions.

True, have to have others to consider and Morey needs to know knicks walk if the price is not fair.

The only problem with an Embiid trade is that we have worked hard to develop a young team. We are starting to see the results of our patience and while not a championship team yet, we are considered a playoff team. Embiid turns 30 in March. We would be trading youth and draft capitol for a player heading into decline. I can’t really think of any 7’ers that aged well. Do we think we can win a chip in the next 2-3 years with Embiid? I think our window opens in 2-3 years. Stay the course, it has worked for us so far.
BigDaddyG @ 10/26/2023 9:03 PM
Bucks are molly whopping the 76ers right now. Embiid needs to come to a real team. He don't need those has-beens in his corner.

Agree about the window. If we were building an instant superteam, I'd be OK with a trade for Embiid, and a relatively brief window.

But thats not what the roster will look like after the trade. Would probably take years to build one. Years Embiid and the Knicks cant afford.

Kinda same.
Embid has had several good players around him and yet no easy path to finals for him.
Can't envision us being able to match that level around him once we give up players and assets.

I would rather add Harris, who is UFA, next year.
