For example they always talk about being completely Pro-Capitalism but then they love Oliver Anthony who sang a song that's wildly against it. There is no such thing as "bullshit pay" if you believe in true Capitalism because the market has already dictated your worth. Under Capitalism, if your work is worth more, then either your company will give you a raise because it won't be able to find someone for cheaper or someone else will pay you more. If that doesn't happen, the market has organically determined you currently are what you make.

I also hear them complaining about the big companies like Blackrock and Vanguard etc and the companies that are buying all this real estate and driving up the prices on homes. But stopping them from doing that is regulation...which they are against. If you're letting capitalism take it's course, there is no complaining about any of that.

There was also so much Conservative media that had their panties in a twist about the UPS workers getting the deal that they got, even though that too is Capitalism doing its thing. If UPS could find cheaper good labor, they would not have made that deal. Therefore, the UPS workers simply got what they are worth. Good for them.

Specifically with Vivek and Trump...when it comes to Trump they say who cares who he is as a person, it's all about policy. But Vivek's literaly first of his "Ten Truths" that he's campaigning on is "God is Real" which has NOTHING to do with policy! Take a good hard look, we have had PLENTY of Presidents that were horrible that believed in God.

There's just so many hypocrisies and voting against their own interests to follow the cults that are either Trump or Conservative media that the actual policies are falling completely by the wayside.

Likely because many are really Populists and not true conservatives.

Does Populist mean as smart as a pile of dung?

Yes

Not all populists were stupid. Huey Long was a smart guy, pushed through public works projects that helped bring his state into the 20th century. At least Long's populism built roads, hospitals, schools. He put the poor and middle class first.

Today's populists are only out to enrich themselves, their rich buddies, and stoke so much hatred and division that no one notices.

Long was an authoritarian, but at least he wasnt a nihilist like today's populists.

Populist methodology today is pretty simplistic. Some in the past, as you mentioned, also had beneficial goals of the masses in mind.
The populist politicians today are as dumb as all the kids making videos of themselves falling of bikes and skateboards. Only doing it for to gain attention and make money. They know it does not matter what you do, what you say or how stupid those two may be. As long as they get enough people reacting to it.
Trump and Vivek are not stupid. Especially Trump. Coming from a stint in show business and how to get ratings. He has spent a life trying to get attention. He just expanded his narcissistic/TV formula on how to get ratings and applied it to the politics. Trump knows there is a large part of the population that is racist, hates many things about the liberal faction and know all the catch phrases to get many groups triggered.

Vivek is just a cheap copycat using what every two bit YouTuber is doing today. They have no real points of view. They get lead by a leash to anything that gets them attention or makes them money.

Was never into politics. Know that most of them are full of shit. However, watching Trump first go around, knew that this movement was not just a threat to political platforms but rather a dangerous shift towards bigotry and hate. Vivek is an example of how it will get worse before it gets better.

There are no populists in today’s politics. There are members of the far-right like Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene who claim to be populists but they are corrupt clowns. They are also racial nationalists who advocate for returning America to the dark ages while we appease Vladimir Putin and MBS in Saudi Arabia

The term “populist” is also in of itself quite murky. Technically any politician can call himself a populist because they believe in their own terms that the policies they advocate for will somehow ultimately benefit the people.

Nothing Vivek Ramaswamy advocates for would benefit anyone besides the millionaires and billionaires who donate money to him and his ilk. Trying to take away the right to vote from American citizens simply because they aren’t older than 25 is a straight up fascist authoritarian policy and if the republicans had any integrity or knowledge of the constitution he would already be finished as a candidate for that alone

The pro-capitalism, pro-defense, anti-communist, states rights fiscal conservatives I grew up with beginning in the 70s no longer exist. I might not have liked NY Republicans last century, but I could generally live with what they did.

Something happened beginning in the late 1990s. The GOP, especially in the House, started to turn too far to the right, and used "by any means necessary" politics to get and keep power. It has just gotten worse since then. Trump was simply the inevitable outcome of this trend, a "me first" populist, with no political core, who appealed to racists and bought the Evangelical Right with his fake Christianity & SCOTUS promises.

By the way, Sinclair Lewis, in his book, It Can't Happen Here, actually predicted Trump...back in 1935.

During the final year of Donald Trump's presidency, the Internal Revenue Service audited low-income families at a higher rate than millionaires for the first time, according to an Americans for Tax Fairness analysis released as congressional Republicans work to further hamper the agency's ability to crack down on rich tax cheats.
