Knicks · Who will be starting SG by Allstar Break? (page 2)

IQ has been given an opportunity to play PG and SG. Learned to play those roles well. I dont see a good reason why Q shouldnt be given the same opportunity. Played PG in high school. There is some experience that can be tapped into, if Grimes doesnt look to be consistent enough as a starter
This could a cap saving move. Not having to decide between the two.
How do you feel giving Grimes minutes at PG will help the team/Grimes?

I think the roster flexibility will be the most interesting micromanagement thread titles all season. But I agree, no surprises. It’s grimes. Question is will RJ start after the all star break?
Agree that the small lineup is in the works. Unless Thibs goes to Hart and Sims and lets IQ, DV and Hart be the offensive playmakers.
If you listen to the bloggers, they will have us believe that NY will do something big before the break. So maybe a chance RJ won't even be here after the break. As much as we (okay me) complain about RJ, he is still a tough cover and still young. Not the star we want him to be yet but still has a lot of value.
Its not a Knick thing if there is not out there Starphuch dream to get baited into. I do think that Leon and Co. go with this roster but are perpetually ready to pounce on an opportunity. RJ could be part of one for sure. Far be it from a fan boy or the hater to correctly place his value.
The blogging is pretty much fictitious yet its influential when the redundancy of it starts to make fans vulnerable to its suggestive manner.
For instance Jules leaving CAA must have some angle about him leaving and he has two more years on his deal! Not explicit is Bill Duffy will handle one side of his deal, the basketball part but some dude named "Thomas" who left CAA will work the business side.
Also CAA was recently sold. Unless Sam Rose was his agent, it don't affect Leon.
Lets also be honest, the way things shook out maybe Jules thinks he is a bit underpaid and was under represented two years ago? Maybe not.
Who knows? Jules does.
He has two full years then a player option for just under 30mm. Same for JB at just under 25mm.
Things changed quickly in one year regarding sticker shock for salaries.
A lot can happen not just with Knicks, but a whole slew of players and team in the next year or so.
Do what you want, but might be best to just enjoy one season at a time as the rate of change and flex going forward is different than in the past.
NBA dynasties and roster longevity are becomeing similar to NFL and MLB. Teams can get good, or fall to shit faster than previous years/era's.
Look at nets. Last year they were a legit contender. Then a laughing stock of a team perpetually screwed. Then they finish respectable with assets to rebuild in some manner. Suns ere owned by a bad dude and the team looked screwed. In a matter of months they get sold, make some huge trades and reboot the coaching staff. Crazy velocity of change.

In a perfect world, Grimes playing PG would allow IQ to move to the starting lineup without the bench losing playmaking. But the starting lineup would still lose defensive versatility. It'd be great if RJ developed to be more of a playmaker, but it's tough to see it at this point. Personally, I'm not concerned with who starts as much as I am with how the minutes are staggered. IQ was usually in the lineup in the final minutes anyway. I say this but, I have no idea how IQ feels about the situation. He might not care as long as he gets paid. It might also bother him. Who knows? Hard not to see a trade coming down the pike. There's just to many combo-ish guards on the roster and they're all legit NBA players.

This FO has been refreshing.
Starphuck seems to be far from their plan.
They seem to understand the dangers of the Starphuck. concept well.
Do think the entire league understands that as well, They now see that those players don't last much and that gone are the days that ONE player is enough to win a chip.
Also feel that another issue keeping teams from next level is overvaluing their home grown assets. As we have seen with the Knicks, many of the players fans thought were elite, have gone to other teams and accomplished very little.
Imo, the FO has navigated the former well. Now it seems they have the challenge of figuring out the latter .

Valid point regarding giving IQ the chance to start.
Maybe worth a shot. I just don't see Grimes as a PG. He is the prototypical spread the floor SG. With the idea that if defenders close out to him too quickly, he can drive.
Don't see him as a facilitator. Imo, it takes away his best asset. Which I feel is catching and shooting the three.
If we are really honest, Deuce is probably the best true PG/facilitator.
As for number of combo wings, think you are right. Would seem like their will be a move. However, one would think the FO understands what they are adding and may just have a different idea of what may bring more success. Essentially, smaller two way lineups. Will be interesting.

If Ben simmons can play near his old self, you put him next to Garland, bring Finny smith and and picks to even it out and DM is in NY. Just that he will play his games in Brooklyn.
Cavs need Wings that can shoot. Simmons plays PG and Garland as SG.
Nets are not contenders yet but that moves them closer with Bridges.
IM not here to fix other teams but While we beat down Cav’s last year, that might not be so easy next year.

Ben Simmons would be a disaster
Not saying anywhere close to straight up DM for Simmons.
And we talking about Cavs, so who really gives a shit.
Why bring it up? Does DM care if he is a knick or net as long as he is back in NYC?
Nalod wrote:You guys are funny as hell. I said “If he could play near his old self”. Remembrer, he was an all star. Pair that player next to Garland and you have a balanced set.

Simmon was the fakest all-star since Jamaal Magloire

I think Wiggins gets that distinction. Simmons was legit good the years he made All-Star.

he just turned 27. No doubt he took his "gifts" for granted like many young players. He also had a bad rep for not putting in the work.
A mans character is defined by how he bounces back. We'll see how that happens.
HIs rookie year he broke his foot. Then a run of three seasons an Allstar. maybe one year is a fake, but he put up 3 of them.
Not defending him, but easy to say he is a mess. He sat our a full season and played just 42 last year avg. 26 min per.
Dudes that have back surgery often have a shit year getting back.
My point is not about bringing him to Knicks. It was about Donovan Mitchell wanting to be in NY and can Cavs elevate thru some trade.
I Think a small back court pared with Garland might not be great. I don't advocate him to play with Brunson either. Thus, "What can nets do to Brin him and what can Cavs do in return.

It was how Simmons bounced back from his disastrous playoff performance with the Sixers. Which is what we should be paying attention to. Lots of Drama, little accountability.
