I mean it's like our salaries raising every year right, 👍
Devin Vassell just got 5 years 146mm. Probably the closest comp in both time period and performance. That a touch under $30mm a year. OG's defense is superior, but I don't think we are going near the $40mm mark.
i agree i would be very disappointed if we went close to 40m.
J Grant also got 5/150
Ideally we can do 4/120m for OG but if not max out at 4/140m
I'm at 1@19mm plus 4 @130 = 5@149. Opt in with an extension to be agreed to.

Some good background on OG from the other side. Start at 1:40min

OG is not at JB and JR'S star level

OG wanted $40 mil. Just listeing to the guys on KFTV and they were saying a good number for OG was $25. Dudes be trippin'. They said that he can't be paid more than Brunson and Randle.
Guys, the man said he would take a discount in NY. Going from $40 mil per year to $25 mil per year is a total haircut. He is probably going to get in Clean's range of $35-$37 which is still nuts for the player level he is at.
This is one of the reason's I didn't like this trade (taking player names out of it). This guys starting point is $11 million less than Brunson and Randle combined. For an uber 3 and D guy! Names taken out of the equation, this deal complicates a lot of things.

I agree. The point I was making is that they are severely underpaid. In this new cba they are making in the mid 20's per year. Their next contract you are going to probably have to almost double that pay. So comparing OG's pay to 2 stars who are severely underpaid is not going to work. I mean we were willing to give Quick 20mil and he is no where near JB and Randle.

IQ may not be at JB and JRs level, but he's not far from OG's level and that's my point. How do you contend for a championship while paying a non alpha player like OG 35 to 40 million?

We have a difference of opinion on how close Quick and OG are. Seeing Quick struggle as badly as he did in the playoffs put a bad taste in my mouth and OG has a ring. Once the Cavs and Heat pressured him the whole time he could not do anything. I hold playoff to a higher standard. WHat good did his 6th man of the year season do us when the playoffs started and teams began gameplanning?
"Alpha players" are getting 50mil plus in this CBA. I think you still have old CBA thinking. Here are some examples.
Non-Alpha Jrue -36mil KP - 36mil Lowry - 30mil
Alpha Tatum - 32mil - Signed during old CBA Jaylin Brown - 49mil - when extention signed this CBA kicks in. Booker - 50mil - when extention signed this CBA kicks in Beal - 50mil - when extention signed this CBA kicks in
All the Alphas who have smaller than 50mil per signed in the old CBA. Jason Tatum, Jaylin Brown and Devin Booker are all on mid 30mil contracts this season because they are still on the old CBA contract. Once that new CBA extention kicks in for Booker and Brown their pay shoots up to 50mil. OG next contract is new CBA so you can't compare it to old CBA contracts(Brunsons/Randles).

OG got a ring because he was on the roster and did not play. Try comparing them at the same age in the play offs, but you can't do that because OG was 24 in 2022 when he last played in the playoffs, and IQ was 23 for us last year. You can have a bad taste in your mouth, but to hold that against IQ is- to be honest, pretty stupid.

Two stars on this team: JB and JR. They are allstars. Top 15? if you count Positions, JR two of last 3 years. Positionless likely not but he is playing out of his mind the last few weeks. Not room for RJ's to grow into it and we needed a guy like OG. Future uncertain for all so is it a bad trade? Good trade? Both teams got what the wanted to improve. RJ will make them money while they retool. Home grown kid will will be a star sometimes on the court but the face of the team off until Barnes kicks it another notch. Both are super young still. We don't talk about Precious that much. I think he is insurance for iHart departing for money we can't pay him? He take Simms spot for small contract to reboot his skill under the "Thibian Way"?

Trade Heart now if we aren't going to keep him. For a center on a longer deal. Love to keep him though. With Mitch a walking injury might keep Heart as a priority y

I thought we gave up too much in IQ and RJ- but no, we made out and got the better player.

We are in a bind now. OG is great as a 3D player, no doubt but terrible use of resources - 2 starters for 1 and EACH of RJ AND IQ will average more points as starters than OG.
Not starting IQ was bad for us. OG is great at what he does but how we used RJ and Quick lowered their value.
We probably still could have gotten the trade done w a 3rd team, sending a pg to Toronto. (E.g. Sexton) RJ should have been coming off the bench for us (fit wise) with IQ starting.
Knixkik@ 1/4/2024 6:52 AM
Dolan deserves some credit here. His typical stubbornness and grudge holding didn’t get in the way of making a trade with the team he’s suing.
VDesai@ 1/4/2024 9:41 AM
Im not gonna quibble with Anunoby, but we really re-loaded the Raptors. Either IQ or RJ should have been the focal point of the deal, but they came away with 2 starters and we got one. Our 3rd/4th best player for their 2nd or 3rd best (and like their 9th and 13th best)
Chandler@ 1/4/2024 10:50 AM
My posts here will show i have been huge supporters of RJ and IQ but i 100% think this trade was a win
it was a quasi dump of RJ and his contract. His game (even if it improved!!) was not a good fit with JR and JB. IQ was going to get a contract we didn't want to match. I love IQ but he's kind of small to start, and his playoff experience is a blemish. WHen teams focus on him he is a detriment, and doesn't make the opponent pay. If there's any position that should make an opponent pay from that kind of attention it should be a pg.
We apparently wanted OG more than other teams; and the Raptors wanted RJ more than other teams did. (Yes IQ was the main prize)
I would like to think we're more likely to find the next IQ in the draft than we will the next OG (with our slots). OG will be guarding Butler and Tatum. He will be better off ball than RJ in that he complements JB and JR's game better.
ALso people keep talking about Precious as a backup 5. I see him more as eventually paying dividends as a backup 4.

I get that but. Basketball can only have 5 guys on the court at any time - and usually the team with the best player in the league wins the championship.
With OG, we have, I think, a real difference maker on both sides of the ball.
Now- with IQ & RJ, I think part of us giving up ‘more’ relates to the money - clearing RJ’s cap and giving us some flexibility this summer to maybe do something to improve in FA that would not have been available to us with RJ & IQ who we would have had to either sign, let walk, or do a S&T which might have given us pennies on the dollar.
We improved fit, defense, FA flexibility in the summer.
Toronto won too! They got 2 really good players that will help them, they have RJ locked on a contract that they can live with, they might have lost OG for nothing in the summer. And they can get a sense of is IQ worth $30M+ with the bulk of the season.
Both teams did quite well for their particular circumstances.
