Julius Randle is showing "positive progression" as he rehabs a dislocated shoulder, reported Ian Begley of SNY.

Begley adds that the Knicks are gaining optimism that he could potentially return this season.

“I’ve heard during this period that there’s been some positive progression here during the rehab and I think that’s left people with even more reason to be optimistic that Randle will be back at some point this season,” said Begley.

Randle will undergo 2-3 more weeks of rehab. Both parties will then make a decision as to whether Randle will return or have surgery and miss the season.

Good news I suppose

This has me changing my outlook.
Thought he would be back in a couple of weeks after the MRI.
Now thinking it is worse.
Only because when I had a shoulder injury, I started feeling better within two weeks.
However, that was followed with no progression for the next two weeks. Went back to surgeon and he said it was clear my issue could only be resolved through surgery.

Hopefully that's not the case.

Btw, what the general consensus if JR comes back and does not play up to All Star caliber?
Probably just more Trade Randle trades

That's what you get when he does play at All Star level!

Randle's not a finesse guy. He's a banger. They are going to be sure he's not putting himself at risk here I think. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I just hope whatever it is we play the long game. This is a nice group with a healthy window to compete for a title if they stay together. I just think Brunson/Randle/OG + DD/Josh + our center rotation has us "there"

It's just having the pieces there when you need em. Boston, Denver, Milw, any team with Chris Paul... roster is part of it, gotta get there beat the best. I like our chances with this crew. Obviously OG and Mitch are worrisome

Once he's back I hope there's a shoulder contraption he can wear to avoid further injury.

It’s called shoulder pads. Like football he will play like a bull. Jules is made different.

This Begley blurb made me a bit uncomfortable at first but realize they have to be as cautious as can be. After the initial reaction this is all mostly positive. But we shall see.

We do miss him.

Did Raptors sell us damaged goods? Hope not.
Shit happens. Lessor the better!

I’m with you on this!!

Raptors definitely sold damaged goods but I’m sure the Knicks were aware. Tommy John is a bit extreme so I bet he is dealing with sort of golfers/tennis elbow issue, which is a pain in the ass on its own.

Thank God it’s not that bad. OG, Randle and Mitch should all be back by the playoffs hopefully we can hang on to at least the 6th seed and avoid this play-in crap

Probably

Give him credit, he will try to come back this season.
A torn Labrum is a slow burn, it does not heal. To repair it it gets cut, then reattached. Partial tear never really heal.
If it pops out again he is done for the season.
That was true day one. The hope was he could return if it was not a total tear, or so much that its unusable. He won't be 100%.
He can play
I have had both Torn rotator and Labrum on one shoulder and torn Labrum on the other.
Unless he falls again once healed he should be as good as new.
The notion is he is breaking down is not organic. He suffers mostly from contact injuries. Non Contacts can be problematic.
Im more concerned about Mitch then Jules.
Any player is at risk for a contact injury.

I don't have Jules medical files so I'm guessing.
Rotator cuff is Usually a 6 month recovery. Labrum about half. Im an old fuck so it took longer. Im not a world class athlete nor play one on TV.

One can freak out on his addressing media yesterday but nothing was really new. It was just presented verbatim from him and there has to be something to write by the media.

Fan question: You rather we make a nice run then see him get hurt and blame him or rather just sit, and we go out early
I loved January and now have little expectation so what ever happens I'll be happy. Just me.

I believe Simms torn his labrum either preparing or during the dunk contest. He was done soon after.

We as fans definitely do not get to see the locker room and gym version of the players and this is where Randle gets all of this long leash from. He is stellar in those areas, as far as we can see.

Commendable.

Looking good

No injury is good news. At the same time, Randle being out for an extended period gives him time to rest his surgically repaired ankle. Thats about the best way a player can get past the lingering issues, post-surgery. Didnt have that much time to recover in the offseason.
