Knicks · Are the Knicks better off today w/players than before the trade with RJ and Quickly and Grimms ? (page 1)

I think this team we have is slower weaker even with Rankle and OG in the game. What good is OG if he keeps getting hurt? RJ was a good play-off player and Quickly was the man. I think we should have kept them until the end of the play offs because they were home grown and were getting better. I don't know what kind of condition OG will be in when he gets back and will this be a Constance thing of him getting hurt I want to know your opinion.

nycericanguy @ 2/16/2024 8:33 AM
Part of me is still disappointed with all these trades.

OG is an elite defender no doubt, he's also always hurt so this is no surprise.

Bogs is nice, but not a long term piece and we lost alot of defense there.

Ultimately we traded Obi, RJ, IQ, Grimes, #31 pick and really didn't get a star back. And on top of that we got injury prone guys for guys that played just about every game.

I feel like with that kind of package we should have been able to get a legit star.

newyorknewyork @ 2/16/2024 8:36 AM
Yes!
nycericanguy @ 2/16/2024 8:37 AM
I also always felt it would be better to build around RJ & Brunson, especially after last years playoffs. RJ seems to be do very well in TOR now. He's still only 23 and a workhorse.
Knixkik @ 2/16/2024 8:38 AM
Much better off now than before. And I was a huge RJ and Quickley guy. I think the opinion that we are better is fairly universal at this point. Just have to have patience.

Be patient? We gave away our ID was defense and don't tell me OG because he can't stay healthy enough to stay on the court. We talk about getting rid of Randle well if we do we won't be a 500 ball club.

How so?

Go check on Grimes and Quicks stats in the playoffs last season and think again about the answer to that question. I think you will easily find your asnwer. Stop being seduced by regular season stats when teams are not gameplanning.
Clean @ 2/16/2024 9:12 AM
Actually let me post them.

Quick
21.9 MPG
9 PPG
34% FG%
24% 3pt FG%
1.6 reb
1 ast

Grimes
26.9MPG
5.1 PPG
30% FG%
24% 3pt FG%
2.8 Reb
1.4 Ast

come on guys I loved the kids to. I mean I got into many arguments sticking up for them but lets be realistic here.

i mean thats not unusual for young guys to struggle in their 1st playoffs.

I do think they both struggle a bit under pressure, but I also worry we are now way too reliant on "if OG is healthy".

but really the argument isn't necessarily "should we have traded them", its more of, "did we get enough"? we didn't get a legit star and the closest thing we got is a very injury prone OG.

EwingPSD @ 2/16/2024 9:20 AM
I think they are better. I was also really hoping we would get to see a Brunson, DDV, Grimes, OG, and I-Hart lineup while Randle recovered. I know they are a little small but I think it's still very good defensively and would light up the scoreboard in a way we haven't seen in NY.

That lineup is going to be dynamite. We will see it before Randle is back.

We are definitely better. I'm a little worried about the second trade but there is a rotation to be found here that is elite. It might require some tough decisions from Thibs (playing matchups and hot hands off the bench) but the potential is there and our potential as a team is much higher than before.

The top 10 guys on this team is stacked on both ends.

During the month of January, Knicks were tied for 3rd in wins, 9th in ORating, 3rd in DRating, 3rd in NetRating.

https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/advanced...

What the fuck are we complaining about today? That OG missed some games but was otherwise setting historical +/- rating for a single player on a new team. EVER.

Dude had the highest individual impact on the court ever while joining a new team, for like 4 weeks straight.

Open the flood gates of look back.

This is a trick question.

We don't have Grimes anymore. I think Burks can play the 3 and it would still be explosive but I don't think it has the same punch.

Shit I glossed over that, even with Hart or Burks that lineup would be dynamite.

We will be really good at full strength but can't rely on that honeymoon forever. We had similar runs after Rose trade and Hart trade. Dust settles and those runs never last forever. We will be a different team in a different spot when everyone gets back. And soon we will have to make tough decisions about keeping key guys from that honeymoon run (Deuce and Precious) in the fold or incorporate the guys from the trade instead.

But we are now a team on a 4 game losing streak with a brutal run of games ahead trying to incorporate key guys 1 by 1 as they get back into the lineup. Near term still looks rocky and will be a battle to get our mojo back.

nycericanguy @ 2/16/2024 10:28 AM
really just comes down to OG's health and contract.

If we can sign him for low 30m's, and he plays 65+ games it's a win.

if we sign him for 40 and he's playing 43, 48 games like he did two seasons ago then it really makes things difficult.

Even further it will really come down to playoff runs. Last years team set a standard that this team will have to out-pace for this to be a success.

When you kick phucking ass in January one does not feel bad.
When you lose 4 in a row after a really good surge you question things.
Fans prerogative.
TheMTL @ 2/16/2024 10:44 AM
We are MUCH better. Everyone talks about OG. But Precious came over in the trade too and he is an upgrade compared to Obi Toppin and exactly what this team needed as well.
I do think the Knicks should have tried harder to keep Quickley though even if that meant giving up a first rounder.
