Knicks · [GT 3/5/24 7:30PM MSG] Knicks vs Hawks (page 4)

Proud of the fight and effort but one of those games where we just couldn't buy a basket. Which happens! I'm more disappointed in the rebounding. That's our bread and butter and the Hawks just killed us on the glass. Give Jalen Johnson credit. He was outstanding. Looked like an All-Star. And Murray just took over in the last few minutes. I know they say the Hawks were asking for too much at the trade deadline but how nice it would be to have him on the roster right now instead of that bum Burks?

I tried to be patient with Burks as I know it takes some time to get adjusted to a new team, even though Burks knows Thibs and the system. Time is up! He's AWFUL! How do you take 14 shots in 12 minutes when you're shooting 32% from the field and UNDER 30% from three!! He's been Ntikilina level bad!

On the other side, very impressed by the development of Deuce. You can tell he's getting more comfortable and confident playing the one. Didn't shoot well, nobody did, but had some nice moments including that sick drive and dunk blowing past Murray. Injuries suck and we're suffering for them but the bright side is these games are huge for Deuce. You can put Achiuwa in that convo as well. He kept us in the game in the first game. Looked like Randle on some of those bully ball drives. Bad decision by Thibs not to play him in the 4th over Bogey. I get we were down and needed scoring and shooting but Bogey didn't have it and was getting torched all game by Johnson.

Four starters out so it's unfair to get too upset. We're fighting but just do not have enough. We're dropping in the standings and the way it looks right now, we'll likely be in the play-in tournament unless Brunson, Randle and OGA come back and hit the ground running which is unlikely.

We fought hard, wtf is wrong with Thibs.

Sub out for who? We don't have another guard to spell Deuce and Burks. Shake just got here.

And Toppin, Jeffries and Brown are not NBA level players.

I get the frustration but we just don't have any options.

LivingLegend @ 3/6/2024 9:23 AM
Burks has been very hard to stomach but didn’t realize how bad - just saw stat indicating for a player in his first 10 games with new team and +75 Fg attempts he is the 1st player to EVER record…

Under 33% FG
Under 30% 3FG
Under 65% FT
Under 10 assists (the assist # is brutal)

He may end up with less assists than Frimes will have FT attempts

The way I see it there are some teams that got hot while we had our worst stretch and we still about even with them. One would think we are at our "bottom" and they are nearing their "peak" win % for the season. Ebbs and flows will return, we will hit a win streak and some of these teams will lose some games. We just need to hold par. Eventually we get our guys back and hit a soft spot and win 5 in a row again IMO.

That said, even the play-in tourney isn't that bad if we are 7th. Avoiding it while going through the injuries we had this year would be kind of crazy accomplishment. I'd rather play CLE than most of the other matchups if we land 4-6th.

DLeethal @ 3/6/2024 9:37 AM
Knicks had some wide open looks early in the game that if they hit even just a few of them it's a different game and they don't have to blow their load coming back from 22 down. Way she goes sometimes after beating CLE at home who just beat Boston then you have a let down the next game. Part of being a bad team (which we are now without our guys). Need guys to play well above their heads to win games. Every day is a day closer to getting OG and Randle back into the lineup. One would think OG has gotta be pretty damn close.

A few other things of notes.

Burks is hot trash. I really hope he doesn't see the court when our guys get back, he brings nothing at all to the table and I think he's largely cooked as a pro. He's lost enough of a step and enough of lift on his J where he is just a bad shot missor now.

Josh Hart plays his ass off but his body language sucks. He's constantly making overtures at mistakes by his teammates and non stop complaining to the refs even when he is clearly wrong. He needs to be better at that. I get he's the "heart and soul" of the team like Draymond but he's gotta stop dogging his teammates if they miss a shot or a rotation. Let Thibs chew them out.

iHart hasn't been the same since injury, probably as expected. We really need to get that platoon back. And I think his torrid stretch wearing off is good for us resigning him and good for him maybe thinking a platoon with another big is best role for him going forward.

Bogs wasn't great, his shooting seems to have been a little overstated, but he's starting to find a comfort zone I think and hopefully when our guys get back he's largely taking wide open 3s. I think he will find a role in the playoff rotation.

DLeethal @ 3/6/2024 9:38 AM
These next 3 games are massive. We need to beat ORL and at least split with Philly to own the tie breaker on them.

WTF does Sims offer this team offensively? He sure wasn't in there for defense, so if he doesn't score and doesn't defend, hurray for his 9 rebounds on mostly missed team 3 pt shots. 1/2 game out of the play-in over the recently 8-2 Heat, great job coach.

Sure, Deuce got quality NBA minutes, what good will they be if the coach cuts him out of the rotation in the playoffs if all our starters return? Ihart/Mitch, JR/Precious, OG/Bojan, DDV/Hart, JB. Maybe Bojan drops out and Deuce is the back-up PG, but doubt that. That is 9 and I'd be shocked if he roles 9 deep, though he should. So, Deuce & Burks are on the outside looking in. Barring injury, fingers crossed, Shake might not see a minute other than junk time, if we ever have those again.

Orlando recently 8-2 next, I wonder how that game will turn out? Pathetic game plan, short-handed or not. A great coach adjusts, 16-52 3 pt shots is on Thibs, make them shoot higher % shots with an offensive plan. Sims has to stop leaving his man to double, usually leads to a dunk on the player he was guarding. Here come the Thibs worshipers.

Imagine talking about lack of substitutions losing the game when shake milton, jake toppin, and charlie brown are the subs. Couldn't be me

Burks just waiting on playoffs to go God mode, don't worry!

We were in it for a while, but Burks and Bogs shot us out of it. Some players csn switch teams pretty seemlessly, others its like hitting the reset button.

Bogs looks like he's closer than Burks to becoming a reliable contributor. Burks hit two shots in a row, missed the next one, no big deal. Then he kept shooting, instead of setting up teammates. Burks would make a better case for minutes, if his shot selection was better.

Wouldnt surprise me if Burks sat for a while. But I would give him one more shot to make the playoff roster, before the regular season ends. When Burks is on his game, he's tough to stop.

I think each player feels with this current lineup they need all the help they can get scoring wise so they are all kind of "over shooting". I think when they can play off Brunson/Randle iso's it will be much easier to fall in line and take what comes their way rather than force it. I agree Bogs is closer to looking like he's figuring things out.

Watching Burks continue to miss the entire basket from straight on from 3 feet and Bogey tossing wide open 3’s a foot past the rim has got me in praying to God mode.

NYKBocker @ 3/6/2024 3:00 PM
I have been concentrating on Bogs and Burks. I think the level of defense that the Knicks play is a shock for them coming from Detroit. Their legs are not there when shooting. I think it will come for Bogs and Burks is toast. When the cavalry arrives then Bogs will get his accuracy back. Dude shot a UFO last night for heaven's sake.

Great comeback and counterpoint. Maybe you should attend a debate club, because that type of response is weak.

made me giggle.
