Mitch’s D was heroic until the final 20 seconds

It's part of the reason why I feel we need Mikal Bridges. I love Donte but his inconsistency is par for the course come playoff time. I still love his fit for this team but think all parties would be better served with him coming off the bench, fulfilling the role we intended for Bogdanovic
Done —- Burks for Bridges and Nets throw in 2030 1st rounder.
Nalod wrote:We did not control the game. Its as back and forth. Ebb and flow. They did not fold.
We did not execute. They did.
Then was made uncharacteristic likely fatigue mistakes.
If Maxey doesn’t hit one of his fluke heaves or Josh seals it with a FT are u saying we didn’t execute?
Agreed, it was. Mitch is a 7 footer, no need to leave your feet to contest Maxey's shot and if you do, you better block it and make him make 3 shots. A bone-headed play.

It's not even the piss poor contest but the fact that he also left Embiid, rolling to the rim, to do it. He's played well defensively against Embiid but we cannot have him on the floor down the stretch because he is a mental midget; as evidenced by that play. It was an awful decision that was further compounded upon.
It’s a knucklehead play but at same time I could see any of our bigs bite on that —- it was destined

I thought Maxey jumped into defender to initiate contact. But Ref did not see nor did anyone calling the game.
The garden was ready to party. Fucking sucks. But Philly is not regular 7th seed. They were only three games behind knicks at seasons end.
No shame in this.
OG was brilliant. Jalen got fatigued and choked. Anyone here really gonna go there? Shit on our game 4 hero?
Our dude did not get it done.
Jalen iced the game and started OT on a 5-0 run. He didn’t get much help in the scoring department and Maxey out dueled him but he did enough to win 99% of the time. We don’t need to act as if our gameplan didn’t work. All we had to do was not be complete morons in the final 20 seconds to close it out.
You could argue we played better tonight than most of our wins in this series.
And f***ing Maxey was just on a bender tonight- it was like scrub of the night again where every shot goes in no matter the distance or angle but Maxey obviously no scrub.

I truly hate this play. Not only this singular play in particular, but this type of foul call in general. The player who inititiates illegal contact should get the foul called on them. Jumping into a defender in non-regular basketball motionshould be an offensive foul. Last game Lowery initiated illegal contact by intentionally stepping/tripping on Brunson laying on his back and it was a foul on Brunson. Brunson laid down flat and had his arms crossed. That's an offensive foul IMO.
Section IV—Foulsa. A common personal foul is illegal physical contact which occurs with an opponent
after the ball has become live and before the horn sounds to end the period. If time expires
before the personal foul occurs, the personal foul should be disregarded, unless it was
EXCEPTION: If the foul is committed on or by a player in the act of shooting, and the
shooter released the ball prior to the expiration of time on the game clock, then the foul
should be administered in the same manner as with any similar play during the course of the
game (See Rule 13—Section II—b—ii).
b. A technical foul is the penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct or violations by team
members on the floor or seated on the bench.
c. A double foul is a situation in which any two opponents commit personal fouls at
approximately the same time.
d. An offensive foul is illegal contact, committed by an offensive player, after the ball
is live and there is team control.
e. A loose ball foul is illegal contact, after the ball is alive, when team control does
not exist.
f. A flagrant foul is unnecessary and/or excessive contact committed by a player against
an opponent whether the ball is dead or alive.
g. A punching foul is a punch by a player which makes contact with an opponent
whether the ball is dead or alive.
h. An away-from-the-play foul is illegal contact by the defense (1) in the last two
minutes of each period, and last two minutes of any overtime periods, which occurs deliberately
away from the immediate area of offensive action, or (2) prior to the ball being released on a
throw-in at any point during the entire game.
Getting someone up and making a normal basketball motion (like on a layup) I get. This James Harden chuck a shot and jump into the defender with a non basketball motion shot fucking kills me.
I do think it was a mistake to play Jalen the entire first half while we were holding a good lead. Deuce was hot and we could’ve sat him a few mins like we did in the 4th.
Agreed, that is what makes this loss even worse. We had a cushion late in the 4th and then again to start OT.

Lol, I think we might need a bit more.
Honestly, I wonder how much traction we can get if we offered Julius for him straight-up.
Jalen built a 5-0 lead in OT and then with the flagrant gave us a 4pt play to tie it but somehow we allow Oubre to get wide open on the other end for a layup after. This was after delivering daggers in regulation to put us in position for a 7 pt lead in regulation but OG missed a FT even before Josh missed his later on. Jalen iced the game as good as you could hope for.

+1
I agree, I hate this abuse of the rule. The league said it was going to stop offensive players from initiating contact for fouls, but it has only gotten worse. Embiid runs over people, it's their fault. An offensive player is not supposed to move into or kick into a defender. If Mitch lands on Maxey shooting a normal shooting motion, then it is a foul. Stop this bull letting people jump forward into people and call it a charge. You are literally charging into contact. This and the 3-step Euro-steps and ridiculous amount of carrying, it is beyond getting old. Defenders are handcuffed from playing honest defense on most players and it makes stars who may not be otherwise.

Well, that was one we left behind us. I'm not one for noticing the subtleties of coaching, but seems like doubling Maxey a few times rather than Embiid might have been the move. Maxey totally killed us tonight.
Just realizing only guy clumsier than Mitchy is Embid —- just a bunch of arms, legs flopping into whatever comes in their path.

Julius will be going with Mitch for KD.
We can add Obi’s brother with Burks for Mikal 😏
I’ve had to turn sound off last 2 games - like some of our players I’m choking in clutch.

Mitch shouldn’t have been in the game in that situation. Precious should’ve been part of the 8 man rotation. Instead Thibs sat him and went with 7 guys.
They still gotta beat us 2 more times. I’m confident in our ability to go win again in Philly and I’d be confident in game 7 at home. They’ve earned that confidence.

We don’t go up 6 without Mitch though. He wreaked havoc on D late in the 4th.
