Good thread. The focus needs to be making sure OG and Hartenstein are taken care of. I want to see what this core can do over the course of the year.
C Hartenstein/ Robinson
PF Randle
SF Anunoby/ Hart
SG DiVincenzo
PG Brunson/ McBride
Knicks are invested in these 8 players. Bogdanovic is a placeholder due to his contract. He’s essentially our 9th man and his contract is most likely to be used in trade to add another valuable piece or let expire.
I love the idea of Oubre but I don’t see the Knicks using their MLE this year. There isn’t an available rotation spot to invest that sort of money. It’s easy to say the Knicks trade their picks, but they really need to use the picks this year to replenish the pipeline and backend of the roster. The backend of the roster can’t be Jeffries, Diake, Charlie Brown etc. We need players who can be real assets in the future and not just placeholders. Picks 24/25 can yield older prospects who are contributors in the near future. Pick 38 is ideal for a project that can be on a 2-way deal. This is the year to add youth with the top 8/9 players well-established.
The last wildcards are Achiuwa and Burks. Neither are rotation players on a fully healthy Knicks team, but both have been so necessary at different times this season and especially in these playoffs. I don’t expect both back, but would love to bring back either for cheap. But you basically have the 9 locked in, plus I expect Sims back on his cheap deal, then you have 4 or 5 remaining slots to fill thru the draft and cheap vet help. I don’t expect many changes this summer because I don’t expect a major trade, but you never know. But I will say the draft is very important this summer to keep building this thing going forward. And most of all I just want to see our entire primary rotation healthy, as we have yet to see it since the OG trade was made.
Oubre doesnt shoot the 3 well enough. He has positive attributes, but I think you have Josh already. Oubre is like 31-32 pct from 3.
The great thing about this squad is we have 3-4 top level players to add back to it and its already a competitive squad as it is. I think you retain what you have, bring over Rokas and draft a 3/4 to provide some depth for the times OG goes down and another 5 who is more playable than Sims.

While I agree we don’t need to do anything, I think the comment on Oubre’s 3 point could use some color. I think his a function of bad coaching.

This is his shot chart. He is noticeably better from one side of the court from the other. A coach that uses players efficiencies would bring that 3 point up to 36 or 38% without blinking.
spotrac has upgraded their site for cap management and trades. The old one was excellent. I'm still trying to figure the new one, but it should be FANtastic.

5 teams in 8 years.
The young man has made 65mm in career earnings so Im not gonna talk about him not succeeding.
Hope he holds on to his money. Crashing a purple Lamborghini and getting hit by a car as a pedestrian late in the evening (both this season) does not speak to a healthy lifestyle. The kid has talent but he don't stick with teams. He should be making as he was 12-15mil per year as a bench player.
Bad coaching Might be good coaching by other team making sure he does not shoot from his best spots.
I was impressed by his play in the knick series. in Charlotte (Airport symbol is CLT) he was asked to score when Lamelo and Rozier was out. Bad team so it was empty stat thing.
He a Thibian kind of player? Not sure.

There is a lot of good info there. I think they did great and am still trying to figure things out over there

Yeah, no knuckleheads please. Or divas and brand builders.
Oubre might be a nice bench piece to match up defensively against Boston, and clever enough offensively that he’ll hurt you if you lose track of him.
I just don’t see where the playing time is on NY.
Based on our current rotation + getting our injured guys back, there isn’t a heck of a lot of room to be part of the rotation.
While I am not going to the mats for Oubre the way I would for Mikal Bridges, I hear a lot of chatter about him as an offcourt issue and I really don't get it. The getting hit by a car thing happened at 7:20PM on a Saturday. The Lambo crash, well, year. At 1:45 AM after a game you run a red light and hit someone, that has some right to be scrutinized.
All I see is a guy that was part of Phoenix turning around, went to GSW and played his role, got shut out of free agency and took 5m to play for CHA, got shut out of free agency to play for PHI for the vet minimum. I see a guy that thinks he should be the focal point of the offense, but if he embraced being a Josh Hart he'd be making 18mm per.

All quick judgments and hit send thoughts aside, I assume with Oubre or anyone our top notch FO does the due diligence. The worst we've seen under this regime were some gripers who thought more of their game than the coach did. No soup tossers or 4am deviants. That we know of.

I have a habit of coveting guys who think more of themselves than the coaches do. Like Cam Reddish.

That's good to hear, lol. I primarily use my phone to browse and the site seemed a little wonky- it sounds like the issue isn't unique to me. I'm still searching for the "manage my team" option which allowed you to play GM along with helpful information regarding restrictions and max salaries. Hopefully it will be ready in the next few weeks because it really was a game changer for fans.
We've got to find a way to lessen the minutes load on JB. Whether that means more McBride, Rokas or whoever. Hell, I'd give Chris Paul a shot. I knew Alec had something left in him, but I'm not comfortable counting on him going into next season. IHart and Mitch are just good and flawed enough that I think I'd try and keep both. But can the Knicks justify spending $30M per on the center spot alone? I like Precious and would keep him depending in Price. Im one of Josh's biggest fans, but it's not realistic to expect a 6'4 guy to consistency come up defensively against opposing team's PF. Not saying he can't do it occasionally, but it's not reliable plan going into next season. Precious offers à decent alternative with his physical profile. Donte is on the John Starks level with me. Yes he makes boneheaded plays, but he's a dog and I can live with his mistakes.
When the Knicks chose the slow rebuild through mediocrity path several years ago, I was not too happy about it, as I hoped for a quicker fix via a couple of superstar signings to go together with high draft picks.
But now that the slow rebuild program is well advanced, I would hate for the team to shake things up again. I like the Nova squad's great chemistry, I like the lunch pail frontcourt, and I really want to see what they are capable of when fully healthy and fully gelled. So, I hope they keep the current team intact for the next 3 years, to build even more chemistry, continuity and consistency, while all our key guys are approaching 30.
Re-signing OG is a must, since we gave up so much for him. Re-signing Ihart is a must too, since I do not see better options than him out there. The only position worth experimenting with is the backup PF spot, Precious is too limited offensively to be the right solution here. I do not care for Rokas, the guy is already 23 and has done jack for Barca, so why waste a roster spot and cap space on him?
Then, down the line, watch out for an opp to reunite the Nova boys by bringing in Bridges, in exchange of OG or something.
we're ready to contend, just need to add some depth and re-sign our guys. and then like most teams, hope we are healthy for the playoff run.
Front office has some big challenges. I was all for OG in January, and thought everyone talking about the injuries and him being injury plagued were making something out of some random, one off things, not a pattern - and while that is still true - elbow, hammy- you have to hope and pray he gives you a solid year or two and he starts to last a bit better like KP did.
I hope they keep their two first round picks and find some good athletes that are smart, fundamental defenders/rebounders that maybe can develop a decent 3 Pt shot and are in the 6’7” to 6’9” range to add some depth to step in - we’re just too reliant on the smalls in our roster with JB, DD & Josh Hart.
If they just retain most of the roster, and add some draft picks, then the off season should be viewed as a success.

this is a bad take in my opinion, e.g., Randle and OG check the first two boxes and this attitude of "we need a lot" is baloney
We need to preserve chemistry and team identity, and if we do anything it will probably be packages some high quality players we like for a player akin to what we did to get OG. If you add Randle OG Bogey Mitch we're already like 11 deep
My Boston friends are convinced that OKC is going to dump a pile of money at Hartenstein which will create a challenge.
