We need to preserve chemistry and team identity, and if we do anything it will probably be packages some high quality players we like for a player akin to what we did to get OG. If you add Randle OG Bogey Mitch we're already like 11 deep

My Boston friends are convinced that OKC is going to dump a pile of money at Hartenstein which will create a challenge.

We need 3 archetypes of player. Play making guard that can hit a 3. I love McBride but his lack of shot creation or playmaking is a problem for our team once teams key in on stopping Brunson. We need a 3 and D wing. We need someone who can fill the role once OG gets injured. A big that can defend mobile bigs and hit a shot outside of the paint. We need a precious that can actually hit an open shot so teams can't clog the paint.

I think this is the msot interesting offseason we've had in a very, very long time

Do they double down on cohesion? Feel like we are missing a primo piece but we also saw what happened to Milwaukee...

I honestly do not know what makes more sense. For example, would a package built around DDV and a lot of our depth entice Phoenix to trade Booker? Would trading for a player like Booker rob us of our identity, which is why we got here to begin with?

I'm not advocating for either side. Truly, I am torn

Feel like this team deserves a chance to give Thibs, Bryant and the coaches an offseason to generate some offensive plays and a training camp together to implement them. With iHart taking some large steps as a player this season, I could see him getting better looks as a passing pivot. Let him find the guys in the corner. IHart’s offseason in the film room is probably the place where this team makes more strides. I could see him making the biggest stride next season. Would be my prediction for Most Improved Player next year.

With Randle coming back, jHart feels like the odd man out of the starting lineup, but the Knicks need to replace his effort and ball movement. I kind of want Randle to see how Hart played PF for the Knicks and be more like that. Randle has more gravity so the defense will move to him instead of leaving Hart wide open. That effect on the court should make things real easy for Brunson, DDV and OG who can all shoot 40% from 3. And if the defense doesn’t swarm on him, he can go to the basket. Don’t really want to see more back to the basket work from him. Too much wingspan in the league now for that.

Want to find some plays for OG. He makes the best of awkward positions, but I think the coaches can get him the ball earlier in possessions when he has size mismatches at SF or speed mismatches at PF. Don’t think leaving him in the corner is the best use of OG. He needs to work his handles this offseason. Gets a little tripped up.

Second unit of Deuce, Burks, Hart, Bogs and Robinson is strong. Could see incremental growth here, but if reading tea leaves, could use draft picks to supplement Burks and Bogs. Devin Carter and Ryan Dunn showed out on agility, strength and both did really well on anthro. I think people are talking badly about this draft because no one looks like Lebron or Wemby. But the depth here is strong. This new guy Isaac Jones is something to look at. A lot of value in the deeper picks, in my opinion.

Run it back is my position. If it doesn’t have the same magic come the trade deadline, they have assets upon assets to get freaky.

nycericanguy @ 5/20/2024 8:54 AM
A guy like Royce Oneal would be a good fit here, can play PF/SF, defend and shoot the 3.

funny I thought Bruce Brown was redundant but we could have really used him. Maybe we can revisit that with TOR.

Redundancy starts to dissapear once you lose half your players! Funny thing is everyone is back to start next year, than how does Thibs find 40 mins for Josh Hart? Bruce and Hart would be a couple 6'4" 200lb PFs! I think he is a great player, but I don't want to lean into being undersized even more.

A rangy forward to guard 4s and 5s, but hit a corner 3 would be great. A poor man's Jaden McDaniels type. Thats who I'm looking for in the draft. I think that might be Bobi Klintman

I am in this camp.

i would be very reluctant to give up any of the Nova guys. We need that competitiveness.

i can imagine a world where we convince ourselves that OG, Precious and perhaps another is enough at the four and we package Randle and assets for a different superstar. Randle has definitely benefitted with more talent around him but i still don't trust him when the game is on the line. That said I wouldn't trade him unless there was some incredible return

But now that the slow rebuild program is well advanced, I would hate for the team to shake things up again. I like the Nova squad's great chemistry, I like the lunch pail frontcourt, and I really want to see what they are capable of when fully healthy and fully gelled. So, I hope they keep the current team intact for the next 3 years, to build even more chemistry, continuity and consistency, while all our key guys are approaching 30.

Re-signing OG is a must, since we gave up so much for him. Re-signing Ihart is a must too, since I do not see better options than him out there. The only position worth experimenting with is the backup PF spot, Precious is too limited offensively to be the right solution here. I do not care for Rokas, the guy is already 23 and has done jack for Barca, so why waste a roster spot and cap space on him?

Then, down the line, watch out for an opp to reunite the Nova boys by bringing in Bridges, in exchange of OG or something.

Wouldn't Bridges for Randle straight up make sense for Brooklyn? Randle is much more suited to be the offensive hub than Mikel and he can bang in the front court. Clayton Bridges and Johnson aren't strong enough to really compete. Maybe Knicks have to throw in a draft pick because Mikal has an extra year on his deal.

Really tough writing that because I love Randle so much.

That trade makes no sense for us. We would have Brunson as the only shot creater and playmaker on the team when at full health.

Trade makes no sense for Brooklyn. If Brooklyn is trading Bridges, it will likely signal the start of of an intense tear down and rebuild. Randle, who's due for a max extension probably wouldn't fit in Brooklyn's plans.

if the plan is to hold the pick until the last second to, say, trade it to Charlotte for some future seconds, that would be a massive misuse of our capital and a massive opportunity cost. As has been widely reported, the time to strike has widely been recognized as this offseason. That would imply a decision of keeping the band together or sticking to the original plan. Surely you must recognize the original plan was to do something this offseason? Being so laissez faire that we just wait and see what might happen should be criminal in this case, we have a huge opportunity this offseason

Again, I am not saying we have to stick to the original plan before anyone puts words in my mouth. All I am saying is that there is a very clear fork in the road this year

I think those rumors where thrown out there on the assumption the team was going after Spida. That seems unlikely now, with recent speculation saying that Mitchell intends to re-sign. The only big move I can see right now is Paul George and that seems unlikely. I'm curious what Phoenix does tho. I know it's a longshot, but Booker might want a change of scenery.

I agree with this sentiment. HOWEVER, wasn't the plan always to be a big time buyer this offseason? I thought we were trying to get talent cheaply, and then I thought we were going to continue to consolidate talent a la the OG trade

Yes, I think this team deserves a chance but I also think our plan was to be a big buyer this offseason. I mean, we played great, but there would be a massive minutes crunch if Randle had been playing

How about this take: Knicks are very well positioned to make a big trade or hold until they find a good match?

Same as with the Mitchell while with Utah potential, you do it if it makes sense, hold otherwise.

if the plan is to hold the pick until the last second to, say, trade it to Charlotte for some future seconds, that would be a massive misuse of our capital and a massive opportunity cost.

You are setting yourself up for expectation failure. That's no ones plan.

The Mikal move would probably have to be Deuce (young, cheap, can start on a rebuilding team and be a piece), Bogdonavic (expiring, and like in Detroit, provides scoring to try and keep you competetive) and picks. They may get a better bid elsewhere, but I think that's all we can give.

The best move is to run it back. We have team chemistry here. We've only seen like 30 games of Anunoby and like 10 with him and Randle. OG and Hartenstein are key pieces and the first focus has to be on bringing them back. And extend Brunson for life.

Rokas, a couple of draft picks. Maybe add a depth center like Goga Bitadze?

Yeah for Mikal it's going to take a 3 team trade where the other team may want what the Knicks can give up in terms of Bogey and draft capital.

Still thinking the Knicks need to offer the pick package to grab Caruso from Chicago. He fits the OG, hart mold of players who fit here and impact goes beyond regular role player level. He can also serve as a backup PG to Brunson and take a bit of pressure off of him as a game manager. He’s not a scorer but he can run an offense. Bogdanovics contract is non guaranteed except for 1 mil, and they can move that to Chicago for Caruso and just a minor filler salary to make the money work. Then it just comes down to picks which we have a lot of.

C Hartenstein
PF Randle
SF Anunoby
SG DiVincenzo
PG Brunson

Bench rotation: Hart, Caruso, Mitch and Deuce.
