Paige Buechers comes back and while she won't break any records, if UCONN reaches final four it might have some buzz. Issue with some of these girls is they are blowing out ACL's. Cameron Brink did bring some attention to the game in College and was doing well with the LA Sparks before she got hurt. She has "the look" and is a very good player.
Soon the next "lebron or Jordan" will come thru college and if stays all 4 years breaks Clarks records or will be that much better she will star. NIL's will also pay her. Clark made more money in college!!!
WNBA competes with Baseball playoffs and the NFL. I doubt it will ever be a major sport. But, WNBA can feed to NBA and visa versa. Basketball fans staying engaged at some level helps all of it.
Remember Annika Sorenstam? She had the same effect on the LPGA years ago. She was a must watch and even played in a PGA event. Anyone watch the LPGA lately? It was just a moment in time and then it passed. It would be lightning in a bottle if another player like Caitlin Clark comes along

True for any sport. NHL lacks superstars like Gretzky. Guys that break ceilings with play and stats. Clark did that out of college and into the WNBA. Serena Williams in women's tennis. Now there are no "It" girls dominating. The William sisters were not just great players, they were stories as well. To be fair they evoked racist emotions and were hated also. Women's sports are often targets of Mysogyny and dismissed when compared to mens game. Mens tennis had incredible run after Sampras with the trio of Rafa, Novak, and Rogers winning about everything for the last 20 years. The game does well still with no apparent superstars currently. There will be others.
Magic and Bird "saved" the NBA and then Jordan became "must see TV" bringing in many fans to see the phenom!
Your not wrong, but nobody is saying Clark will be woven into the social fabric of society and define sports. Paige "Buckets" if UCONN goes undefeated will be a story and will carry interest into the WNBA. And some where a young women will start dunking and have the hopes to take the game to another level. I like the women game. The fundamentals are more apparent and the passing is very good. its a different game. Its not the mens who are better athletes. But, I think Clark will help have helped the women game attendance in college and the WNBA. To what degree? Who knows. Its not the NBA nor will it every be on par with them.
Women's golf? Not sure thats a good comp. For that matter Tiger Woods took the game to new heights also. Golf is not as popular now as it was then. Maybe there will be another golf superstar like him that be household names. Really its Jack Nicolaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tiger Woods. Sure there are other great players over time but these guys are bonafide stars that went beyond the sport. Clark might be a temporary phenom. But she delivered.

Has anyone debunked Caitlin Clark signing a massive contract to play in Europe yet?

Fake News: CC is at the level that anything she does is huge news. So it would be everywhere not just a youtube video. The video says ESPN dropped the news but thats a lie. Youtubers just use clickbait to farm views off her name. Plus CC said she was not going to play this offseason due to her playing for a year straight. However, she is being courted by that Unriveled league that plays in Miami and they are going to offer her a ton of money and equity.
More context on that Unriveled league is she already turned them down because a bunch of players and investors are anti CC and her fanbase. However, now that TNT is on board to cover it and has an equity stake in the league they want CC to make sure it is a success. The one thing you can count on is the WNBA ecosystem being short sighted. They spent a majority of the season making her feel like an outsider only for them to want her to join the new league so they can make money off her. Why would she do the people who hates her any favors? So unless they make her an offer she can't refuse she will turn them down again.
Here is one of the founders talking about CC. This player is one of the good ones.

Now that I am a hardcore fan I actually know stuff about the WNBA. I am still not where I want to be but I will get there in time.

She was a master class in handling the bullshit that surrounded her NCAA record, and the expectations coming into the league just weeks after the NCAA run. Catlin handled it all with grace and executed on the court which is where it mattered. That it became a racial matter was unfortunate. She said little and let her game do the talking. She did not prove the naysayers wrong, she in fact proved the hype was legit! Big difference.
On the flip side does Angel Reese think its a good idea to put it out there that her WNBA salary cannot pay her $9000 a month rent with a bragging tone? It comes off arrogant because in a world were housing costs are a real problem its kind of a turn off. Angel Reese is a great ball player and at the end of the day thats talent, not endorsements as a personality/influencer. These girls work hard to get to where they are. Without the game they will lose the cred.
Its not just a race thing. Anna Kournakova burst on to the tennis world reaching a ranking of 8th. Thats no easy feat btw! She did play a quarterfinals at a grand slam. She never one a single tournament. She created a quite a stir with incredible good looks and because of it massive endorsements and fame. Im sure many players were envious the attention and financial considerations because of her looks while they busted their tails on the court and never sniffed that kind of money. Emma Radacanu at 19 came from a very low ranking and won the US open. She a very pretty girl with an adorable British accent born of Romanian and I believe Chinese parents that makes her commercially very appealing in many markets. She has had injuries and has not been able to sustain or reach nearly the expectations that comes from winning a grand slam event.
So Caitlin Clark is not the first to break into the scene and cause comments. She won't be the last.

For context on why he said this those same player are doing the Unriveled league I spoke about before and the WNBPA just opted out of the CBA. They are going to use the new growth in the WNBA to try for a more player friendly CBA. All the amazing growth they are trying to exploit are coming from the girl and her fans they hate. It won't stop them from trying to take advantage of it though.

From what I read teams are still losing money as is the league. Team owners are frustrated by the lack of return in their investments. I know one year is not a trend so not sure what leverage the union has. Both sides will want more and both sides are not wrong. The CBA has this opt out window this year. Could be better to wait one more year but that window might not be there. if your losing money a stoppage is not awful, but they will lose incredible momentum and that might be their leverage. They could kill the league by a stoppage. Dolan sold the Liberty and Tsai was willing to pump big money. As Mrs. Tsai said they went from small crowds in westchester to larger crowds in BKN. Roster mattered!! That and Clark awareness.
Bottom line is if the revenue is there, is there enough profit to pass on to the players? If they want charter flights, which they got, there is less money to pass on. I get they are asking for more than money. They want enhanced benefits. Those are expensive also.
Spike and other Celeb's at Liberty games matters and they became a hot ticket this year.
Brianna Stewart is 6-4 with a 7 foot wingspan!!! Alrighty then!!!!

WNBA will lose $40 million this season and its NBA investors are growing impatient
While the WNBA is getting sellout crowds for the finals between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx, the league’s owners will not be making a return on their investment for the foreseeable future, sources close to the situation said.
The NBA owns nearly 60 percent of the league.
When one combines the NBA owners’ personal stakes in WNBA teams and the WNBA itself, the amount rises to 75 percent, a source with direct knowledge of the numbers said.

The CBA thing is complicated because the reason why the WNBA is still losing money is because they are still on the old crappy TV deal and they paid for Charted flights earlier than expected. So the owners can try to play hardball that the WNBA has never made money. If we are being honest that article about Dolan and the WNBA losing money timing seems suspicious. Owners could be starting the PR battle already because everyone knew once the season was over the WNBPA was opting out. Another tricky situation is do the owners want some kind of payment plan to help make up some portion of the money lost keeping the WNBA operational once the league is profitable? How does that play into what the WNBPA wants as part of the new CBA? So many moving parts.
If the WNBPA is smart they will know that the profitable year is coming once the new TV deal comes. The problem is the WNBA are not very smart and if we are being honest they were not ready for all the attention that having an actual star brings. They sold out of CC merch in minutes and never put more up for sale later in some instances. So we will see how this plays out.
WNBA should have been doing everything in their power to make CC feel loved because she is the most leverage they are going to have. Lucky for them she has always been about making things better for everyone even those who don't like her. I am not sure if you guy heard but she was trying to get the away team paid bonus money since everytime she plays at away games they sellout and even move to larger arenas. Sadly that is against the CBA so she was not able to get that done but it shows you how she is always thinking about other people.

The best passer in the WNBA her rookie year and it was not even close. She don't do flashy passes so she don't get fancy names like "the Point God" but she was the master of hitting cutters and on the fastbreak.

It sure looks like the WNBA is trying to anoint Ionescu who also participated in the NBA Allstar 3 pt contest with Curry. Can’t blame them for hedging their bets. Projections are that the league will be profitable by 2026. If I have a financial interest I’m not going to be short sided and play hardball. The players will get concessions but probably not everything they want this CBA. If that’s not good enough for them than that going to be a problem for the league. If there is a prolonged strike they will lose players to Euroleague. If they lose their top players the league. Maybe not the top players who have endorsement deals but the rank and file who need a paycheck

With TNT aboard anything is possible now. They need to replace the NBA after this season and they might be putting their hopes that this could do it in the future.

I am up for whatever is appropriate! Just don't want to take away from someone else's topic.
How about a Clean-slate start of a new WNBA thread or Rookie do you mind we switch this up? I think you were OP.
