I hope I am wrong, yet to be on most things Knicks , but I have said that this type of deal for Bridges is overpaying for a role player. IMHO.

Only way Nets do this deal is if I am right.

Was this offer made to the Cavs? Anyone else?

It was even worse than that.

M.Rob, RJ, Obi, 3 unprotected for Mitchell 😲 😱

I understand that Mitch is often injured. But he is crucial for particular matchups. We don't get past Philly without him. He also makes me feel confident when going against Milwaukee and Cleveland too

cant keep everyone, its a $ thing.

crazy that draft night trade 2 years ago really changed our franchise.

trading #11 for 3 future 1sts not only gave us cap to sign Brunson, but without those spare picks there's no way we could have traded away our own picks now for Mikal.

Technically at this time, we can right? There is nothing stopping us from signing(over paying) for OG and IHart?

We can only offer iHart 16M per year or 4/72. Other teams can outbid us on him.

We can offer more than anyone else with OG.

At this point it’s all but guaranteed one of iHart and Mitch are gonna go.

We have the potential to be unstoppable but if we get destroyed in the front court because of an injury, it's gonna counterweight the great 1,2, 3 positions. I'm sure the fo is aware of this but I'll wait to see what they do before getting my hopes up for a final/title.

Bridges and OG are both PF’s in todays nba. Sims is emerging as a solid defensive Center. Jacob Toppin has potential

We would struggle against the teams with size. Bridges/OG/Hart are not full time solutions.

Sims last year showed why he can't be counted to contribute in the playoffs. I'd cut him if he weren't so cheap.

Sims only meaningful action in the playoffs last season he had 4 points 6 rebounds in 16 minutes versus the pacers. He’s big and strong, 6’10 and has length.

nycericanguy @ 6/26/2024 8:55 AM
hopefully this also means Brunson takes the cheaper extension now that we went out and got ALL his boys.

We've done right by him, I mean who would have thought the Jhart trade two years ago was going to start all this?

MS @ 6/26/2024 8:57 AM
Bridges has played 474 straight games to begin his career, the longest streak in the NBA over the past 40 seasons. He is one of four players with 1,500 points, 150 3-pointers and 75 steals in each of the past two seasons, joining Luka Doncic, Anthony Edwards and Jayson Tatum.

He is not a role player.

Putting together a team of glue guys, that all shoot elite percentages DDV, Brunson, OG and Bridges is more powerful than someone that social media considers a star player.

Corner 3’s and Jalen Brunson = unstoppable.

Uptown @ 6/26/2024 8:58 AM
Wow...didn't think the Nyets would trade their best player across the bridge...I guess Bridges kind of forced their hand. We get instant chemistry with another Nova star, but we emptied the draft-pick clip on this all in deal. Usually, trading away so many picks comes back to bite the team ( see Bk twice.)

Next year we are all in, but the year after next, Bridges will be on the last year of his deal and some tough decisions will need to be made...

Swishfm3 @ 6/26/2024 8:58 AM
This is a GREAT trade!

OG was a great fit for the Knicks but paying 35-40 million for an oft injured, 3rd option, would have been insane.

The picks, at the very least the first 2, would be high FRP.

Love this trade for the Knicks.

Now, if the Knicks are indeed moving on from OG, lets all hope he doesn't land in Philly

I hear you, but keeping OG should be priority #1 to pair him with Bridges to gives us an elite defensive wing combo. Not to mention, neither of them are ball stoppers and both provide spacing

I’d be 100% confident that that juncture has been crossed.

When those rumors started about Jalen extending off his current (instead of opting out like OG), IMHO Mikal was a done deal for the Knicks to make an all-in offer on Mikal. That’s a fair exchange to me.

SergioNYK @ 6/26/2024 9:08 AM
Beyond shocked this actually happened! I didn't think there was even a 1% chance Brooklyn would ever make a trade with us but we clearly made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

I like Mikal a lot and love this trade for the team in the short term but this was an overpay. I'm completely against trading unprotected picks years from, especially 5-7 years from now, unless it's for a franchise level player like Jokic, Giannis, ect. We've seen what these type of trades does to teams in the past.

But it's done. We'll worry about 2029 and 2031 when we get there I guess. NGL I'm also so glad it was Mikal not LeBum or KD.

In the present, there was no better piece to add to this existing core than Mikal. He fits perfectly! He has the skillset we need and will have that Villanova connection. Assuming we bring back OGA, we're right there with Boston if we're healthy.

Thibs: “challenge accepted”, “he and Josh probably will just play them the whole playoffs”

Yea once someone besides OG wants that legit 40-50M max it kind of explodes everything it seems. Brunson looks like he's gonna take a mega discount to play with his buddies. Randle will have to do the same if he wants to stay and Mikal also. If not, there will need to be cap clearing maneuvers and shrewd Aller-esque maneuvers to get some low cost quality depth pieces.

Boston has an expensive starting lineup and then it's bargain bin after that. You can't pay 7-8 guys all 20+ with guys making 40+ at the top.

IDK, I think teams get stung more when they trade picks and swap alternate years. We only swap one year in the near term. We own our picks every other year. Not the end of the world. Price you pay to have a contending team well under 30.

i agree, and that just sweetens the deal even more. This core should be together 3-4 years at least.

Knicks still have like 5 first over the next 2 years. Next year I can easily see them trading out of all 3 of them for future picks to offset the blow.
