We get instant chemistry with another Nova star, but we emptied the draft-pick clip on this all in deal. Usually, trading away so many picks comes back to bite the team ( see Bk twice.)

Next year we are all in, but the year after next, Bridges will be on the last year of his deal and some tough decisions will need to be made...

Knicks still have like 5 first over the next 2 years. Next year I can easily see them trading out of all 3 of them for future picks to offset the blow.

yep, makes total sense to kick some of the picks down the road each year.

Resigning OG is a must. Otherwise Bridges will replace OG's position and it would mean we paid the RJ, IQ, 5 picks for Bridges and 30 games of OG.
nycericanguy @ 6/26/2024 9:21 AM
Bog's contract also made this possible.

OG was a great fit for the Knicks but paying 35-40 million for an oft injured, 3rd option, would have been insane.

The picks, at the very least the first 2, would be high FRP.

Love this trade for the Knicks.

Now, if the Knicks are indeed moving on from OG, lets all hope he doesn't land in Philly

No way you let OG walk. This move was made putting all the chips on the table. Letting OG walk after the price you just paid for Mikal with down the line draft picks would be insane. You pay OG his $40mil, get the chip or 2, then trade him when Mikal & Randle extensions start to kick in.

why would you trade OG instead of just letting Randle walk who will be 32 then and declining.

I think if Brunson signs the cheaper extension now, which I think he will, we won't have any issue keeping this team together.

Philc1 @ 6/26/2024 9:24 AM
Randle might have to start at Center if and when we resign OG.

We've done right by him, I mean who would have thought the Jhart trade two years ago was going to start all this?

I’d be 100% confident that that juncture has been crossed.

When those rumors started about Jalen extending off his current (instead of opting out like OG), IMHO Mikal was a done deal for the Knicks to make an all-in offer on Mikal. That’s a fair exchange to me.

i agree, and that just sweetens the deal even more. This core should be together 3-4 years at least.

Yep. And to be sure, Brunson will not lose out $-wise over the long term assuming 3 years from now he is legit STARTING at $70M per.

gradyandrew @ 6/26/2024 9:28 AM
I still think Robinson is more valuable than IHart just because Robinson has been crucial to the Knicks making the second round the last two years. I think with Brunson as the weakest link, rim protection will always be at a premium. Hypothetically, our best matchup with the Celts is:
Robinson on KP
Randle on Holiday
Brunson on White
Bridges on Brown
OG on Tatum

Knicks can win a series based on Deuce, DDV and Hart out playing Pritchard, Horford and Hauser.

EwingPSD @ 6/26/2024 9:32 AM
Assuming the OG comes back the Knicks are a very legitimate contender going into next year regardless of what additional moves they make or don't make. Thats the bottom line after this deal. Welcome to the world of expectations. The Knicks are very good!
martin @ 6/26/2024 9:33 AM
I’ll go out on a limb and say this ends up at least a 3 team trade.

Signed and sealed with love

Agreed! We don't beat Cleveland last year or Philly this year without Mitch. And we would've beaten Atlanta in '21 and Indiana this year if we had Mitch.

Hartenstein did a very good job stepping up in the regular season but he was subpar in the playoffs overall, especially in Games 6 & 7 vs Indiana.

vs Pacers
Game 7: 0 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block
Game 6: 4 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists
Game 4: 4 points, 5 rebounds
Game 3: 6 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists

vs Sixers
Game 5: 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists
Game 4: 8 points, 4 rebounds
Game 1: 6 points, 7 rebounds

I don't think he is a starting Center on a title contender. He's still 26 and can get better so I wouldn't mind bringing him back but I'm not breaking the bank for him.
I'd use the MLE to sign a vet and use the picks tonight to add Center depth regardless.

VDesai @ 6/26/2024 9:42 AM
Nets definitely non-guarantee Bogs, which makes him one of the more attractive MLE level guys on the market. But I assume we can't re-sign him under the rules, so will see which contender he lands with.

The thing is if Ihart walks we get nothing for him.

But OTOH if we can trade Mitch for a future 1st and resign Ihart, that could help replenish our draft picks.

And then we draft someone like Ware tonight.

But if there is no trade market for Mitch, and Ihart wants to leave we'll be fine too.

OG is the real important get here.

VDesai @ 6/26/2024 9:44 AM
You need a high post outlet for Brunson out of doubles who moved the offense. Hartenstein was always a decisive outlet for that quick pass to a cutter. Great vision/court IQ. The thing about Hartenstein is he is sooo good at doing everything Thibs asks of his big. He is extremely coachable and instinctually knows the right play to make much of the time. Id have a very hard time letting him go- Brunson needs him to be at his absolute best.

Robinson is one of the best defensive Centers in the league ofcourse he’s more valuable

I wonder if all the chatter from Woj and Begley last night about losing iHart, with seemingly nothing at all changing in terms of the FA landscape, might have to do with teams showing interest in a S&T and Knicks looking at those deals.

Meh people and reporters doing all this back and forwards stuff on twitter. We got the cap god for a reason. This is why he gets paid the big bucks. He will make it work.
