Knicks · Target: Goga Bitadze (page 1)

Goga is what I call an "iHart in waiting." He is only 24 and still has upside and showed flashes of great production. I don't purport to know why Orlando didn't play him more, but check out his numbers as a starter (on a pretty good team that was winning games early in the year).

33 games started
23.9 mins per game
7.5 pts per game
7.3 rebs per game (2.7 offensive)
58.9% FG
68.3% FT
1.8 assists per game
1.7 blocks per game
0.8 steals per game.

These are pretty strong number, especially on the defensive end. The guy rarealy has been given minutes, but when he has gotten to play he is quite good. Still a lot to unlock. 6'10/250.

Yes, Goga and another cheap vet upgrade over Simms.

I hope they bring in both Goga and Drew Eubanks

Please

I think our problem is we can only offer him the MLE at 5mm per. That may not be enough. We need to show him Hartenstein's money bag and say, hey, lets see what you do in his role for the next 2 yrs.

Feel like he may have heard about the iHart contract

Have to ask the question - we non-tendered Precious for 6mm. What can we offer him in a contract? Given what Derrick Jones/Jalen Smith made, I think he commands at least 9mm

What about Mo Wagner, though?

Mo gonna cost more than Goga, though I like Mo. He is tough and annoying. Would replace any lost Germanness.

I like the potential of Goga. He seems like a guy that could blossom with more opportunity, kinda similar to iHart when we got him. And he is 24.

Mo is intriguing too but yeah, more expensive.

Think people were excited about his 3 pt shot when we signed him! Still I think iHart's next play is he needs to start hitting some jumpers. Maybe OKC will let him shoot more 3s.

It’s getting tough this centers market

VDesai @ 7/1/2024 11:35 AM
I don't know why Goga would go back to Orlando - he'd be sitting behind Carter and Isaac still. He played great first half and then was glued to the bench 2nd Half of last year. Take a bit less from NYC and get a chance at 20-25 mpg and probably at least 20-30 spot starts behind Mitch just like iHart. At age 24 he could put himself in the same position as iHart at age 26.

It’s too bad there aren’t a lot of vet centers out there. Usually vet centers are waiting out free agency.

Goga stood out to me when we played ORL this year. I think he would be a great value play and if we can land him we might even feel that iHart walking was a blessing.

Only cap wise, not bro love wise

VDesai @ 7/1/2024 11:52 AM
Its definitely not a blessing to have iHart leave. Its just a reality! We lost a good player who was key to what we do. With 5mm to spend we won't replace all of what he provided, but hopefully we can get close and gamble on a guy with upside like Goga. No reason to knock down iHart to rationalize the situation. Guy got his 29mm! We literally couldn't offer much more than half that, so its just a reality we need to live with.

Do we need to complete the Bridges trade before signing anyone?

Is this maybe why there has been no news regarding a backup C?
