Knicks · Walker Kessler on Knicks radar (page 2)

Nalod @ 7/2/2024 10:28 PM
Ainge is a motherfucker who puts his players up and then says "Make me an offer I can't refuse or fuck off".
So it seems he is impossible to fans.

What is Kessler worth? Lets be serious he knows knicks are calling for a reason and not on a "Fishing Expedition".

Is Kessler worth what Wiz got from Portland?:

The Washington Wizards are trading Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers for tonight's 14th pick, a future first, two future seconds and Malcolm Brogdon, a league source confirmed. The Wizards will get the second-most favorable of the Trail Blazers' 2029 first-round picks, as well as 2028 and 2030 second-rounders.

A bit pricey but these are quality players and draft pick wishes. They have demonstrate they are NBA players. The cost a bit and they are still cheap. You wince, you roll your eyes, take a shot of vodka, and do a deal with Ainge. He the devil? He. your jail cell roomate your don't say no to? No, he has inventory to sell.

Not out of the ordinary. We've seen guys actually request to play summer league just to stay sharp. Heck, didn't request to play just so he could become the all-time scoring champ? Kessler will play a few minutes and then sit.

VDesai @ 7/3/2024 6:03 PM
Anthony Mason played summer league for like 5 yrs

Objectively, can NY bring Kessler into the Toppin TPE or is that expired? What does Kessler actually cost? 1 pick? 2 picks? Of all the names thrown around, Kessler might be #1 and Duren #2. Didn’t really like that video of Duren’s defense, but would hope Thibs could fix that. Kessler might be an upgrade over iHart.

Nick Richards might be just as intriguing but with a lesser price tag

Kessler makes less than $3m. The Knicks have 3 exceptions, two of them expire next Monday, the third one in October 2025. Each of them is greater than Kessler's salary.

The problem is: Kessler is a very successful late first round pick who is valuable to Utah. Since he does not need to trade Kessler, Ainge is certain to demand a first round pick plus something more, possibly substantially more, like another couple of low first rounders. Does Kessler for 3 first rounders and the TPE sound like a reasonable deal?

Ugh.

I like Kessler, I like Ihart prior to the Knicks getting him and feel Kessler can be a good contributor. The cost is a factor, wonder now with the Kolek signing if Duece is available and Knicks can throw in Pistons protected pic, which Ainge can try and use for more assets, just a thought. I think with Kolek and having DD as the backup SG, for the right player Duece and his great contract (I believe descends each year)should be available and IMO Kessler fits that bill.........but I agree with the sentiment we are dealing with Ainge.

The dude has such high asking prices for his players it's insane. I don't see the Knicks making a deal without it hurting us

Nalod @ 7/4/2024 10:22 PM
Ainge?
His team sucks with Kessler and without I'd gather.
Ainge does not have to trade him or really anyone so he can lay back and see what the market bares.
HIs team will still suck, but its Salt Lake City and he not afraid of his stablemate "Yeti" taking revenue.

Does Leon still have 1 more miracle in his pocket? I think no one expected mikal to be a knick but Leon made it happen. Can he replicate this feat against the shrewd Danny Ainge? I think Kessler is a perfect replacement for Ihart. The facilitating from the center spot will lessen but the defense is solid. Im sure the price wull be way high but if it happens the nnicks can move even closer to to challenge Boston

The good part in all of this? Leon has until Feb to figure out the backup C spot.

NYKBocker @ 7/5/2024 12:56 PM
I think I am fine with the Centers we have now. Just re-sign Precious just in case
Chandler @ 7/5/2024 1:33 PM
Ainge is overrated.

I'm surprised he wasn't run out of town for trading Rudy and Donovan. Those guys don't grow on trees

Couple that with the fact that any knucklehead could see the West was heading for a sea change with an aging Warriors and Lakers squad.

One thing some teams are learning the hard way is you can have too many draft picks and too much youth. You need a balance with vets, trying to integrate several rookies year after year is tough

EwingsGlass @ 7/5/2024 1:39 PM
Kessler would be the perfect kind of fit here. Costs matter, but I would lock it up if we could. Out of young centers, I think only Alperun Sengun would possibly be a better fit. This squad would make Sengun look like Jokic.

Feel like the Knicks will play the long game with Kessler, same as they did with OG and Mikal. He fits too well with what they do.

I tend to agree.

There is an obvious symmetry in the Knicks current starters, one that Randle almost signals he is not part of.

If you look at Brunson and Bridges, their shot charts are near mirrors of each other in their most efficient locations. Both very efficient from three at the top right and left and opposite corners with Brunson finishing his midrange at the top of the key and bridges at the hoops. [I am ignoring Bridges shot chart as lead Net, that’s not an accurate idea of what his role would be here]

If you look at DDV and OG, the same is also true. Both are strong from three from the top of the three, on opposite sides to the same corner.

It’s like these 4 were made to share the court in a motion offense. Randle’s passing as a big man is near elite. When he is a willing participant. I can imagine a world where these 5 share the court and OG defends the center.

A guy like Kessler would feast in a 4-1 motion with Brunson, DDV, Bridges and OG. Like insane synergy.

I’m not trying to implicate Randle, it’s just that his shot chart is a lot less efficient at times. And DDV had an insane year last year. If you go back to one of Randle’s more efficient years, (like I did with Bridges), it can work to.
