Also I wish we had an injury update on McCullar. Draft position aside, he was theoretically one of the more NBA ready players in the draft. Big program, lots of collegiate experience, strong effort on defense and intangibles. He's the kind of guy who can get on the floor and help with enough things while the rest of his game develops. Combination of Hart/Grimes type of play.

His Knee bruise kept him out of the NCAA Tourney AND summer league.

Mikal, OG, Hart, with Deuce & Shamet offer plenty of depth on the wing. Its the forward position that could us another body whose ready to contribute. But even that could be covered by KAT depending on the circumstances. Like the availability of Mitch.

By trading Randle, we actually trade the only "True" 4 on the roster. If you look at Achiuwa as a center (I do) and KAT as a center (I do). Someone who can swing 3/4 or 4/5 would help - which is where Morris came in.

Nalod views Precious as a 4, and I think Sims is in the rotation as things stand until Mitch is moved or returns.
OG is a true 4 perhaps his natural position. His wingspan and lower body is near ideal.
If Deuce starts he can defend most 2's easy. The shot, he has to hit it. Not saying he players full starter minutes.
Josh was to work on his shot this off season as his mechanics were not great. He hit some clutch shots, but struggled a lot at times.
He would finish for us.

We could also finish with

Kat
Precious
OG
Mikal
Brunson

Precious ready to step into the backup OG role, that's why Leon wanted both of those guys from Toronto

IMHO Dadiet is in the 2-3 year McBride development and timeline role. He will be the better offensive version of the big wing role for the Knicks with ceiling to be a offensive focal point with top end Brunson level defense. Or at least that would be the thought process from the FO.

If he shines early, you give him minutes. Knicks also have a lot of flexibility to use him in, let's say, OG load management nights versus the tank teams and maybe Mikal gonna have to cut back to 80 games a year. Something.

Baring a decent Mitch trade, I think this is the exact starting lineup for opening of season.

I'm still feeling Josh or Deuce in the SL. Thibs I think happy to take any opportunity to let Josh play 48mpg

I look at it different. Josh is your most versatile energy guy and you can put in him for any of 2-4. That's his forte.

I wonder if Thibs will give Deuce any PG minutes off bench this year or just run with Cam. That may make a difference in how they use Deuce (bench versus start).

Kolek gonna be Brunson 2.0: a lot less scoring, a lot more passing, smaller normal sized head.

martin @ 10/1/2024 12:49 PM
That's Cam Payne slinging the 3's right?

If Mikal, OG, Hart are starting we have no one over 6'4 to play the wing/forward spots until Dadiet. We don't have any backup forwards with ball skills on the bench right now.

I agree we need a wing. They do have two other guys back there - Jacob Toppin and Kevin McCullar. They also may bring back Marcus Morris eventually who's a 3-4-5. But this is why I said coaxing Gordon Hayward out of retirement for the veteran MLE makes sense because Hayward can shoot and has playmaking ability which is what the bench needs on the wing right now. Maybe you can settle for just shooting and add a Doug McDermott...

Can we add more players though? If we can still add vet mins I'm not that worried. I was under the impression we are hugging the apron and can't really make another move unless it's a trade.

Precious. Sims.

Why do you assume Hart is starting? I don't think that is a given.

And that's is why Mitch is being shopped.

You why the Knicks "are listening to offers" for Mitch? 😉 I think we can count on Okeke returning if that's any consolation. Morris is washed, so I can't pretend him not wanting to come to camp is a big deal. Also don't believe they'll be able to move Mitch this close to opening night.
