How does Curry only have 8? Because I swear I’ve seen him do it more than that!

Nope, nope. Nothing to see here. Not knocking Smart, but at 20mm, don’t see a deal being done at a price the Knicks should pay.

Well, he would be our best defender against big men when Mitch isn't playing.

It’s a weird one.
The only way the Knicks could move for Smart is combining Mitch and Deuce, and the Knicks would never do that. Right?
But what if it were for Smart and GG Jackson? GG is out for 3 months but I think it’s just one of those “wait for paint to dry” type injuries to a broken bone in foot after awkward layup landing. Grizz have no way to otherwise get a C like Mitch, so they take the risk by giving up a VERY high upside kid for a proven vet while getting back some youth too. It’s not like they have a starting C now so the wait on Mitch doesn’t matter.
Mitch and GG both out for a bit, Smart and Deuce are near mirror images of each other in different forms.
Maybe this is not legit at all and Leon just trying to create a market for Mitch. Kris Pursiainen does not seem to be the type to throw scraps against a wall for no reason.

Trade Smart, win championship.

Pretty much. Smart is so bad at offense but takes so many shots that he offsets his defensive prowess. He’s like the anti-Fournier. EvanMarcus Fournier-Smart would be one effective player. Hard pass. Only deal that could have been mentioned was taking back Smart to get JJJ. That’s over now.

So was the whole Bridges following Brunson and taking less money thing a big myth or could that still be true?

I think the waiting a year is about 2 year extension or 4 year extension. No mention of valuation. With an increasing cap, locking in for 4 years saves us money regardless of what his actual contract value ends up being.
After trading DDV, I dunno if this whole Nova Knicks discount to keep them together thing has bona fide merit. Might just be talk. As much as I agree with the Randle/KAT swap, not sure moving DDV was the best move. Has to have added doubt to the locker room. It definitely caught me off guard that they included DDV.

Yep. Mikal became 2 year extension eligible Oct 1, but he can only do 5% raises right now. If he waits 6 months after traded, it's 4 years and 8% or something like that.
Mikal can sign a two-year, $72.5 million extension on October 1 or he will be eligible for a four-year, $157 million extension in the next offseason. I think. So it is a timing thing.
My guess: Before trade, Leon made sure he understood the high level parameters of what Mikal would be looking for. Things can certainly change but you just want to rule out the bonkers contact demands and lay down some foundation for discussion long term to know exactly when you will cross that 2nd apron with the Brunson extension.
https://www.nbcsports.com/nba/news/to-ga...“The indication I’ve gotten just from talking to people is that there is not going to be an extension, that he will wait until next year to look at what the extension... because he’s limited as far as the six-month rule as far as what he can extend for. Next year, he can extend for four years. It just gives him more flexibility. That could certainly change by October 21st. Maybe this trade [for Karl-Anthony Towns] does change that thinking. This was talking to people before this trade happened.”
The Towns trade should not impact Bridges’ thinking, he needs to focus on his own future and security. First, the sixth-month rule limits an extension to 120% of his current contract, next summer, that can be for up to 140%. Bridges will make $24.9 million this season, so an extension signed right now would make him just less than $30 million for 2026-27, well under his market value. The six-month rule also limits the size of raises on that new contract to 5%, he would make less in future years.
Even if Bridges is willing to take a financial discount (as Brunson did) he will want the security of four years over just two, so it makes sense to wait until next summer to get an extension done.

Mikal is making stupid money now and will be just fine going forward. If not we'll trade his ass.
You don't win chips without great players and Leon got Two in Brunson and KAT.
Elite role players in OG and Mikal. Both glue guys that are not allstars, but you win with!
Josh also.
The window is open. I doubt it happen in year one and thats cool. Not out of the question. Jalen as MVP? Not out of the questions. KAT mania in the media crush if he succeeds? Not out of the question.
Winning teams need health. The obvious fact. Thibs wins or his teams dies trying!!!!

Ok this makes more sense then, if he wants the years first and foremost. Better for us as well. He might still play ball with some apron management discount and just wants the 4 year deal.

We obviously don’t have a clue how players and agents and FO teams do these things. Years, total amounts across the years, opt out, ascending/descending all come into play. Extend sooner, have less player leverage and are more tradable. All of those things come into play.
Didn't realize Monica was hosting some ESPN shows these days.
