Knicks · Knicks traded for Towns (finally official 10/1) (page 1)

Hearing Randle, Donte & the Pistons 1st.
newyorknewyork @ 9/27/2024 10:34 PM
Need time to process losing Donte
Panos @ 9/27/2024 10:34 PM
Nooooo
BigDaddyG @ 9/27/2024 10:40 PM
Big mistake. Towns is soft and overpaid. Also, Towns routinely gets smashed by Embiid. I'd rather have Julius as a battering ram in the paint than a soft dude who prefers to take threes. Finally, I think Donte and Jules is too much.

The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves are working through the framework of a trade involving Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo for Karl-Anthony Towns, league sources confirmed to ESPN's Bobby Marks on Friday night.

The teams are still working through details but talks have intensified over last 24 hours, sources said.

The Athletic first reported on talks between the teams.

Panos @ 9/27/2024 10:41 PM
I'd rather have Randle nevermind losing DDV too
CleaverGreene @ 9/27/2024 10:42 PM
WTF...Just saw this on Twitter(X).

I actually don't know how I feel about this trade, yet.

Did anyone have any rumors about this? I haven't been following the sport in the offseason, though I knew about Robinson not being ready for the start of the season, and that we needed a center.

Upset about losing Dante, who I really grew to like last year.

" Working through details" means figuring out what additional assets we can throw in

Towns is not worth Donte and Jules. But the salary makes it difficult. I'd say we should get some draft picks kicked back out way, but the Wolves have any to give?

Alpha1971 @ 9/27/2024 10:47 PM
Have to trust Leon and Thibs. I doubt they make this trade without Thibs ok. Will miss Randle and Dante
BigDaddyG @ 9/27/2024 10:53 PM
Cool. Looking for a third team is usually the kiss of death for most trades. You kinda have to trade Jules now tho.
toodarkmark @ 9/27/2024 10:55 PM
Noooooo don't trade Donteee...
Rookie @ 9/27/2024 10:57 PM
Crap now I’ll never sleep until this trade is finalized. There has to be a third team involved to make the numbers work. I’ve posted this a few times in other threads, the next trade is going to hurt with DDV being our best tradeable asset. I guess the fit with Towns is better?
fishmike @ 9/27/2024 11:00 PM
Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years.

First Leon move I hate. Oh well.

Nalod @ 9/27/2024 11:00 PM
Nalod told you guys recently it would happen and you would not like it.
Did not think Donte would be in it but it makes sense because they don't need Mitch.
This completes Minny.
This trade don't get done without Mikal coming first.
Deuce is ready. Y'all said as much. It also makes the trade able.
I loved Donte, don't get me wrong. But when I said Mikal without Randle being traded makes it "clumsy".
Donte off the bench was not crazy. Its were he started last year.

Kat is soft? Well, give the man a chance. He played nice last year. Randle has not exactly been a rock for us. Love the guy, but he too keeps breaking. Its a good trade for Minny, He makes sense next to Rudy and Naz Reid as well. Jules has been getting smaller and can play some three with Mcdaniels at 6-10.

Do I love it? Maybe it makes us balanced now. Shocking right?

Sure its not perfect, but basically we traded two guys we got via free agency.
I have faith Leon and Thibs are down with this. On paper the logic is there. Will it execute? Tune in!!!!

NYStateOfMind @ 9/27/2024 11:00 PM
Why DDV and not Mitch? And why break up Nova? Makes no sense. I feel we could get someone talented but cheaper with that package.

LIke who? Really, be specific.
Leon is playing chess. The pieces like Mikal had to move first.
This is not a spur of the moment thing. Leon been putting this together for months.
Im sure there were other deals working also. But this one makes a ton of sense.
Go big or go home. Leon not going home.

DDVs minutes would be limited on this roster. Mitch will have a big role when healthy. Rather than diminish DDVs value by burying him on the bench, or making McBride irrelevant, a trade was needed.

Yeah I hate from a culture and fit standpoint. Towns isn't really center. They're planning to give up too much for what's essentially a swap of two flawed forwards.

jaydh @ 9/27/2024 11:08 PM
Its possible Knicks knew they couldn't re-sign Randle and got a player under contract for several yrs

Because you have a big defensive drop-off if KAT is you're main center. The roster as presently constructed still needs Mitch. Donte 's three points shooting would be missed, but there are guys who can pick up the slack. Also, already has Gobert. They need more spacing.
