Knicks · Knicks traded for Towns (finally official 10/1) (page 41)

That’s one think you didn’t say about Randles offense. He wasn’t passive.I'm really in this camp. He's not worth his contract. Sorry.
It was my whole thing when the trade went down. Yes, he's more talented than Randle. But the stretch 5 thing gets negated when teams just stick a wing on him and his aggression wanes attacking the mismatches. Not to mention he sucks defensively and drivers have no fear driving against him. He's got superstar talent, but a fourth option mindset.
No secret Randle was my favorite player.
Thought he fit the Mason, Oakley type mold that I like with a lot more scoring.
Thought he had better value compared to KAT.
Did not like his Bball IQ at crucial times.
Thought KAT was soft and would be an overpaid floor spacer .
However, we are one winnable series away from getting to finals and KAT has put up good numbers.
Can’t say I hate that.
Problem will be if we can’t get past ECF after being handed a gift in Tatum getting hurt.
We will be hearing a lot more about what I brought up during the trade.
Which is how we will be committed to two players that are earning like guys that should be able to take over big games and put up big numbers consistently . KAT has not taken over as many games as I would like and OG has not been consistent on offense.
Not to mention how we gave up several draft picks for a guy that is a solid role player at best.
Let’s hope we will be discussing the former.

Just for sh!ts and giggles, let's say you could reverse the trade. How does this team stack up?
Starting 5
JB
Mikal
OG
Randle
Mitch
Bench
Cam or vet replacement
Deuce
DDV
Hart
Hukporti
Bench is a little vertically challeged, but maybe a small move fixes that.

Any lineup with Money Mitch is better to me. Need to have the coaching nuts and IQ to sit and know when to sit your stars (ex: Towns). Pacers 5 and out office clashes with the double bigs.
The contracts match but the Nets do have the ability to absorb more salary using their cap space. For all his shortcomings. I think KAT has utility on a rebuilding team looking for stats that don't necessarily lead to winning. At worst, he'll create better spacing for their developmental prospects.
Any shot we could then maybe flip Claxton and an asset from MIN to OKC for iHart; and Cam Johnson to MIN for DDV?

The Nets don't want Towns salary. No team wants it.

The way this team is currently playing, clearly the pre KAT squad.
I keep trying to figure out where the team that scored 140pts on 50/40/90 splits went? Cause that team was fucking awesome.

We wanted it, lol.
Seriously though, as much as we don't like him, he's still an All-NBA talent. As clean as the BKNs cap sheet is, they'd need a contract like that to just get to the salary cap floor. So why not take a flier?

Even if both the Knicks and Timberwolves get swept one can argue it was a trade that benefited both teams? Why? Knicks got further in the playoffs and the wolves returned to the WCF without Towns.

He's just not a center, he's a power forward. Minnesota knew this, but here we are playing KAT at the 5. Lineup would be fine with Mitch starting at center.

I've never liked players whose impact is measured exclusively in a box score. Those types of contributions never translate well into the playoffs e.g. James Harden. Towns would be fine if he was a superfluous talent on the team but considering the sub tendencies of our coach and a relatively shallow bench, we can't afford for KAT to be the liability he is when not posting gaudy numbers.
Defense is an issue. Nothing new.
WE down 0-2 in ECF and we down on him and want to dump him?
I did not expect to be here. Did not see this roster 12 months ago either.

Sounds an awful lot like Melo.

In his prime, Melo was the most clutch player in the league, by the numbers. What he was by the time he left NY, doesnt change that.
Melo wanted his second max deal, didnt want to take a pay cut to bring in some talent, like other stars who have won a chip'. Said at the time that he cant complain about the roster after his max deal, he made his bed. That didnt stop him lol
Question is can KAT change his stripes? Im not saying he can become Wilt but is it between the ears? Just improve to fit within the team concept?

ehhh...its not that black and white. Minny was fortunate to play GS without Steph. I think if Steph is healthy, the Wolves would be watching the the WCF from their couches (or Cancun). The Knicks were on the verge of going up 3-1 before Tatum went down. If Tatum doesnt get hurt, do we still advance? None of us can say for sure but the odds were in our favor. I say all that to say, our path to the ECF was much tougher than The Wolves path to the WCF.

Jalen Brown was playing on a funky meniscus. KP was not healthy.
Still good wins, but not the same Celtics from the regular season.

Agree the wolves got lucky.
