Knicks · Around the NBA 2024-25, let's do this!! (page 16)

Perhaps too early for draft regrets, but the one that seems to stick out right now is why did we take Pacome over Ryan Dunn. Pacome is raw/young and will take years in order for us to see who he is, but every expert was mocking Dunn to the Knicks and saw him as a fit with Thibs. Biggest question was whether he could contribute on offense or stick some 3's and right now he's hitting them at a representative clip. Already started 5 games for a contending, veteran Suns team. We need a big wing backup who can play D in the worst way right now and this seems like a missed opportunity. Ultimately we got a guy who was willing to take a 20% pay cut from slot with a ton of upside - that money and the long-term prospects make a ton of sense, but with a "win-now" type of roster, it looks like Dunn is one of the more immediate contributors in the class and a player that people were saying was a "Knicks" type player for months and months.

it's not that simple we also needed who we drafted to take a discount the first year. Ryan might not have been willing to do that.

LOL i went to great pains to explain that it wasn't a simple decision with my post. 20% cut was needed to make the Bridges math work - I think we all understand that. Everyone was saying Dunn to the Knicks though, and it from the first 12 games its looking like it could have fit like a glove if there was a way to make it happen.

Because he couldn't shoot in college. FT or anywhere outside of 10 feet. It would be as if Mitch could start to hit 3points with ease. It would be completely and utterly unexpected.

Phoenix got really lucky. Really really lucky and I think everyone around the team has expressed this. Sometimes you get Okoro or Matisse Thybulle and sometimes players surprise you like Ryan Dunn and Toumani Camara.

Dunn shot 50% FT in college and was a 30% 3point shooter in his last year at school.

I think the Knicks picked Pacome for several reasons and don't necessarily agree with the thought line of picking "win-now" only players.

The Knicks targeted Pacome for his upside. They know a kid that young would never realistically expect to play, that's just playing the odds. Even young players who turn out incredibly well take years to figure things out and get to a point of being productive, witness Kobe Bryant. About as young as Pacome and it took him a couple of years where his productivity moved from athleticism to something useful in a team environment and winning. The Knicks know this. They could have probably traded back on this very pick too but they took him purposely.

I do think the Kevin McCullar and Kolek picks were the win-now selections they thought would be able to take on minutes while Pacome marinated.

I think they are pleasantly surprised on Huk and he'll get his chance cause of circumstance and his play.

Think the upside is real, but the cash situation was immediate to avoid apron 2. Im sure they had a few prospects lined up who's temperature they took on the draft slot - and honestly Pacome, who was raw/slightly less known and probably a round 2 type was willing to slot in at lower for a chance to play in the NBA and be a first round pick. I think he's a worthwhile player and has upside, but have to believe that was a huge part of the calculus.

Absolutely. In fact, I'll go further, I think they wanted him to wait a year and thought he would but Pacome surprised them. They came up with plan B and asked him to take a cut.

Win-win.

Man, if we didn't trade him...

martin @ 11/14/2024 10:50 AM
He is like one of the oldest starters in the league too.

Nalod @ 11/14/2024 12:47 PM
Lebron is not "Like" the oldest starter in the league, he is the oldest in the league! Chris Paul, Taj and PJ tucker are far behind.
Incredible what he is doing after 21 years in the league. A true genetic freak.

The world’s tallest teenager might have to wait a year to become the world’s tallest college basketball player.

Florida coach Todd Golden said Thursday that Olivier Rioux, a 7ft 9in freshman who owns a spot in the Guinness record book, is planning to redshirt. Had the popular Canadian played in even one game, he would have burned one of his four seasons of college eligibility.

Instead, Rioux will spend the 2024-25 season practicing with teammates and honing his skills – and still be a freshman next fall.

Scary

Clean @ 11/14/2024 11:24 PM

Bro, what is this defense? I had no idea his defense was this bad.
Clean @ 11/14/2024 11:28 PM

Grimes finally being 3 and D. Hopefully he stick to keeping it simple instead of trying to do too much.
Clean @ 11/14/2024 11:36 PM

He stared him down and told him to move over a bit and Luka still did not defend him.
Clean @ 11/15/2024 12:37 AM

I had no idea his defense was this bad. This is worse than Trey Young.
